INTRODUCTION

As Caddie Master I truly believe a young person who becomes a caddie at

Ozaukee Country Club will be tutored in many of the important aspects of daily life.

Also, having the boys and girls in a structured program like the one explained in this

manual, allows them to be surrounded by a positive environment that will help them

boost their self esteem. In order to have a caddie program that is successful there must

be a team atmosphere where the caddie master works hand in hand with the entire

professional golf staff. Together the team must be actively involved in; registration,

dealing with parents and members, observation of caddies, and continuing instruction

on fundamental rules of both golf and caddie duties. Jack Nicklaus once said, “A kid

grows up a lot faster on the golf course. Golf teaches you how to behave”.

The caddie program we have here is something special. I look forward to working

closely with your child this summer at Ozaukee Country Club.

Sincerely,

Mark Petersen Andy Fish Caddie Master PGA Golf Professional

OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAM

1. The primary objective is to provide a high quality caddie service to the

membership. Besides carrying golf bags, caddies perform such duties as tending the pin, raking bunkers, watching golf balls, and replacing divots. More experienced or honor caddies may assist golfers with information on yardage, break of the green and on the play of a hole.

2. The membership provides a service to caddies as well.

• By employing caddies, members give a summer job to young people.

• Caddies can learn the values of courtesy and sportsmanship at an early age.

• Caddies are provided an opportunity to develop their character and learn how to deal with people.

• Caddying also provides young people with a situation that directly rewards self motivation, determination, and hard work.

• These and other qualities can help caddies to become candidates for the Evans Scholarship which pays for four full years of college at a major university.

BENEFITS OF THE PROGRAM

1. An excellent service is provided by caddies for members at a fair cost. 2. Caddies have the opportunity for

• Earning money at an early age.

• Developing their personal character.

• Playing golf on Mondays which are designated as caddie golf days.

• Earning a 4 year Evans Scholarship for their excellent caddie rewards.

• Participating in an end of the year Caddie Tournament. 3. Caddies improve the condition of the course by reducing wear and tear by

motorized carts. 4. Through a variety of activities, caddies substantially increase the speed of

play, especially with players unfamiliar to the course. 5. Caddies are a source of future club employees. 6. The Caddie Banquet, which 50-75 caddies will be invited to attend in late

September

• Assign caddies on a first-come, first-serve basis from the daily caddie list. There will be, if at all possible, no more than two Honor and/or two A’s in a foursome. This will allow there to be at least two Rookie or B caddies in each foursome

• The Caddie Master will use the weekly carryover list to give those who didn’t get bags the previous few days a chance.

• If the caddie does not print his/her name clearly, they will be assumed to be absent.

Carryover List

• Done on a weekly basis (Tuesday- Saturday), starts over every Tuesday.

• A caddies name is placed on this list if he/she did not get a bag and remained available for the required time period.

• The Caddie Master then uses this list as first priority to assign bags the next day.

• This will attempt to service the caddie who have put in their time waiting and should allow a caddie to receive a bag once every two days.
