The Cocoa Tree• Theobromo cacao is the scientific name for
the tropical tree, a native of central and south American rainforests, that produces cacoa fruits which are processed into chocolate.
• The cocoa beans are dried and bagged by the farmer, then winnowed to separate the shell from the nib.
Processing cocoa
• The nibs are then roasted to increase the flavour and aroma and darken the colour.
• The roasted nibs are then ground to powder and pressed to separate the cocoa mass, cocoa powder and cocoa butter.
• All of Cadbury’s cocoa ingredients are imported from Singapore.
Cadbury in Claremont, Tasmania
• The Cadbury factory at Claremont was established in 1921, after extensive research.
• Claremont was chosen due to it’s proximity to Hobart, inexpensive hydro-electricity and abundant supply of fresh, high quality milk.
• The Claremont factory was built under the same model as the original Bourneville factory, with it’s own village, sporting facilities and employee welfare benefits.
Freddo frogs are one of Cadbury Australia’s highest selling items, with over 90 million made and eaten every year!
