ABOUT JOSH

-Roeder was exclusively a reliever at Louisburg College (N.C.) and the University of Nebraska, where all 90 of his collegiate appearances came out of the bullpen, and also in the New York Yankees’ organization, where he started just once in 54 total games.

-Roeder’s favorite pitcher growing up was New York Yankees legend Mariano Rivera, and Josh ended his three-year career at Nebraska as the school’s all-time career saves leader with 33. Roeder’s 15 saves during the 2015 season ranks second in a single season in Cornhuskers history, and he finished that campaign with a 1-1 record, 3.15 ERA and 28 strikeouts against three walks in 20.0 innings.

-The Yankees selected Roeder in the 21st round of the 2015 draft out of Nebraska. He was released by New York just prior to the 2018 season. However, less than a month later, the Marlins inked Roeder to a minor league deal.

2019 SEASON

- Roeder was promoted on April 30 to Jacksonville from High-A Jupiter. He started on May 1 for the Jumbo Shrimp and has since served additional stints with Jupiter and Triple-A New Orleans. He was reassigned to Jacksonville on June 13 from Jupiter.

2018 SEASON

-Roeder’s first start came against Palm Beach on June 2, when he struck out four in six innings of shutout baseball. He later dominated the Cardinals on August 5, firing a career-high seven innings and ceding just two hits in a 3-0 win.

-Among the 57 pitchers who tossed at least 70.0 innings in the Florida State League, Roeder finished 10th in walk percentage (5.2 percent). However, he posted the circuit’s fifth-highest line drive rate (23.4 percent) and 10th-lowest strikeout percentage (15.7 percent).

2017 SEASON-Roeder made three appearances (April 10, April 13 and April 19) with High-A Tampa before not appearing in another game until June 27, when he pitched 1.1 innings with the GCL Yankees West. On July 7, he was assigned to Short Season Class A Staten Island, where he finished out the campaign.

2016 SEASON-Among the 125 pitchers who logged at least 30.0 innings in the New York-Penn League, Roeder finished third in both FIP (1.94) and xFIP (2.10), 12th in walk rate (3.9 percent) and 16th in strikeout rate (26.3 percent).

2015 SEASON-Roeder’s 3.3 walk percentage was the 10th-best of 205 New York-Penn League pitchers with at least 20.0 innings pitched.

ADDITIONAL CAREER NOTES-Roeder chose to transfer to Nebraska over other offers from North Carolina, East Carolina, Old Dominion and Morehead State. While in Lincoln, he majored in business management.

-During his freshman season at Louisburg College in 2012, Roeder helped the Hurricanes to a school-record 52 wins and a No. 20 ranking in the final NJCAA poll. Louisburg was ranked No. 1 in the NJCAA poll at one time during the season for the first time in program history. Roeder worked as the team’s closer during the campaign, ranking third nationally with 13 saves while posting the country’s seventh-best strikeout-to-walk ratio (50:8). He compiled a 2.06 ERA in 39.1 innings.

-Roeder registered a team-best 1.74 ERA and six saves in 31.0 innings of work in 2013, his first season at Nebraska. He followed that up with 12 saves and 21 strikeouts in 20.1 frames as a junior in 2014.
