Member Profiles | Member Portfolios | Author Attributions

…. What defines them…. how they differ …. and how they work in the site

Page 2: C3 author-demo

All authors (members) of the site will have an author page – here is a lightly styled version of the page:

Page 3: C3 author-demo

Links to the author page are featured on category defined pages

Page 4: C3 author-demo

And on individual post displays

Page 5: C3 author-demo

The author page is populated largely via the information contained in the member’s profileTo access the profile:Login => click on upper right corner => select “edit my profile”

Page 6: C3 author-demo

In addition to the standard profile fields:

Page 7: C3 author-demo

We have added fields for :

Headshot URL | Company Name | Phone number | Facebook URLLinkedin URL | Twitter URL

Note: if the social media URLs are not filled in the icons will still display, but will be “dead links”

Page 8: C3 author-demo

The term used to display as the “author link” – The title of the author page – and the term displayed after “recent posts by” attribution is selected via the “display name publicly as” drop-down in the profile editor.

The options are: Username | First Name | Last Name | First & Last Name | Last & First Name | Nick Name

The default is Username (in most cases not really optimal)

In our server environment the image uploader will not work in the profile area, so we are using an actual link to an image instead – of course the first preference would be that the image used is uploaded into the site via standard WordPress process.

BE WARNED all headshot-avatar images will be displayed at 150 X 150pxIf your image is not squared IT WILL BE DISTORTEDThere is no value using a larger image than 150 X 150px and please make sure your images are less than 25kb in file size

The main body content of the author page is fed the public display name as the page title | followed by the content entered into the “biographical info” section of the profile editor => the rest of the page is a listing of all of the member’s authored posts listed in reverse chronological order (title | featured image | excerpt)

Page 11: C3 author-demo

The terms appearing under the “Specialty” heading will dynamically appear based on which “Professional Categories “ sub-categories have content generated by each author. While the sub-category term is displayed, the term is linked to the individual author’s content

Portfolio “pages” are generated by a custom content type, and are found under the heading of “Portfolio” in the admin panel. The general layout of these pages is set by a series of special fields – information from these fields are mapped to specific regions on the pageLeaving the configuration of the main body content up to the discretion of the individual member.

When creating a portfolio page make sure to select the portfolio – not the post – type!!

Page 14: C3 author-demo

While the portfolio content type admin display looks very much like a standard post – several custom fields have been added It is important to fill in these fieldsAttach each portfolio entry to a Professional Category sub-category!

Page 15: C3 author-demo

The custom fields are:Headshot (uploader works here!) | Name | Business Name | PhoneWebsite Link | Facebook | Linkedin | Twitter

Note: if the social media URLs are not filled in the icons will still display, but will be “dead links”

Page 16: C3 author-demo

We anticipate that some content on the site, being more “general” wouldn’t require an author attribution – for this reason a post-template has been created to display without the author attributionTemplate assignment is via the Post Template drop down in the post edit screen

Page 17: C3 author-demo

The authorless post displays just like a standard post …

… just no author link

Page 18: C3 author-demo

However this does not keep the “authorless” posts from showing up on an author’s page….

…. Because of this we recommend that additional logins be created to be used for the generation of “general” content pieces
