John P. Williams, Jr. President

Greater Cincinnati Chamber of Commerce

Since November 1, 1984, John Williams has been President of the Greater Cincinnati Chamber of Commerce, a 7,000-member organization of businesses dedicated to enhancing the economic vitality and quality of life in the three-state region of Greater Cincinnati.

He oversees the day-to-day activities of a 79-person staff and the Chamber's extensive network of volunteer committees. The 159-year old Chamber is organized into groups that deal with economic enhancement, and government and community affairs.

A native Cincinnatian, Mr. Williams grew up in Dayton, Ohio . He is a graduate of Kent School, Kent, Conn., and earned a bachelor's degree from Princeton University and a law degree from the University of Cincinnati.

He served three years in the U.S. Marine Corps, including a tour in Vietnam as a rifle company commander where he was decorated with the Bronze Star, with combat V for valor and two Purple Hearts.

Mr. Williams joined the Cincinnati law firm of Taft, Stettinius & Hollister in 1971; was admitted to partnership in 1977; continued his practice in the area of corporate and securi­ties law until he joined the Chamber in 1984.

In addition to his responsibilities as head of the Chamber, Williams is a board member of Downtown Cincinnati Inc., the Greater Cincinnati Center for Economic Education, the Kenton County Airport Board, the Queen City Club and the Greater Cincinnati Convention and Visitors Bureau. He is a director of Kennedy Manufacturing Co. of Van Wert, Ohio, and Portman Equipment Co. of Cincinnati.
