11. Sound buttons: This button is used to select from 30sounds (10 × 3 banks). Twobuttons canbepressed toplaytwosoundssimultaneously(Layermode).

12. DISPLAY button, LEDs: Thisbutton isused to selectthe content of themultidisplay. The illuminated LEDindicatesthecurrentcontent.

13. Display: TheLEDdisplay showsvarious informationaswell as the selected setting for themetronomeandFunctionModeparameter.

14. +, - buttons: Usethesebuttonstospecifyasetting,valueor song.

15. METRONOME button: Use this button to start/stopthemetronome.While themetronome is being used,thebutton is lit. In addition,holddown thebutton toentertheMetronomesettingsmode,wherevariousmet-ronomesettingscanbespecified(seepage9).

16. Recorder buttons: Usethesebuttonstorecord( ),playback/pause( )andstop( )performancesaswellasto select the part to be recorded/played back (PART1andPART2).

17. MIDI (IN, OUT) jacks: These jacks allow the C1/C1AirtointeractwithotherMIDIequippeddevices—key-boards,drummachines,synthesizers,etc.OUT:SendsMIDI data OUT of the C1/C1 Air to the

MIDIINoftheotherdevice.IN: ReceivesMIDIdatabeingsentfromtheMIDIOut

oftheotherdevice.

18. LINE OUT jack: Thisstereominiphonejackisthemainaudiooutputjack.Usingthisjack,theoutputoftheC1/C1Aircanbeconnectedtotheinputofanexternalam-plifier, powered speaker, audio interface or recorder,etc.TheVOLUMEknobcontrolstheoutputvolume.

19. Headphone ( ) jacks (front of connector box): Two ste-reomini headphone jacks are locatedunderneath thekeyboard to the left-hand side. Plugging headphonesintoeitherofthesejackswillmutetheinternalspeakers.

20. Speaker connector: The cord from the speaker boxplugs into thisconnector (see“Assembling theStand”onpage17).

21. DC 24V jack: ConnecttheincludedACadapterhere.

22. Pedal connector: Thecordfromthepedalunitsplugsintothisconnector(see“AssemblingtheStand”onpage17).

Control panel

1. Power button: Press this button to turn on theC1/C1Air.At the same time, thedisplayand soundbuttonslightup.ToturnofftheC1/C1Air,holddownthisbut-tonforabout1second.TheC1/C1Airwillturnoffwhenthepowerbuttonisreleased.

When theC1/C1Air is turned off, all parametersnormally return to their factory default settings.However,theC1/C1Aircanbesettosavethepa-rametersettings(Referto“Saveparametersettings”onpage13).

Auto Power OffTheC1/C1Aircanbesettoautomaticallyturnoffafterasetperiodoftimehaspassedwithnokeysbeingplayedorwithnosongsbeingplayedback. To change this time interval,ortodisablethisfeaturereferto“Autopoweroff”onpage13

2. VOLUME knob: Thisknobadjuststhevolumeforthespeakers,theLINEOUTjackandtheheadphonejacks.

3. PIANO SONG buttons: ThisbuttonisusedtoenterPi-anosongmode.Inthatcase,thebuttonlightsup.Simul-taneously pressing this button and the TRANSPOSEbuttonenterstheSounddemosongmode.

4. TRANSPOSE button: This button is used to adjusttransposition.Whiletransposing,thebuttonlightsup.Simultaneously pressing this button and the PIANOSONGbuttonenterstheSounddemosongmode.

5. FUNCTION button: This button is used to enter theFunction mode, where pitch, temperament and othersettingscanbespecified.Holddownthebuttontoen-ter theMIDI functionmode,whereMIDI settingscanbespecified.ThebuttonlightsupwhentheC1/C1AirenterstheFunctionmodeandblinkswhenitenterstheMIDIfunctionmode.

6. TOUCH button: This button lets you select the key-boardsensitivity.

7. BRILLIANCE button: Thisbuttonisusedtoadjustthebrightnessofthetone.

8. REVERB button: Thisbuttonisusedtoturnon/offthereverb,whichaddsambiencetothesound.Whenthiseffectison,thebuttonwillbelitup.

9. CHORUS button: Thisbuttonisusedtoturnon/offthechorus,which adds richness to the sound.When thiseffectison,thebuttonwillbelitup.

10. BANK button, LEDs: Thisbuttonisusedtoselectthedesiredsoundbank.TheLEDfor thebank that’scur-rentlyselectedwilllightup.

Closing the key cover

1. Unfold the front edge of the key cover, and gently be-gin to lower it.

2. When the key cover begins to close on its own, release it. Thekeycoverwillcontinuetosoftlycloseonitsown,fromaboutmid-waydown.

Donotforciblypullthekeycoverorapplystrongpres-surewhilethekeycoverisclosing.Doingsowilldam-age the unit.

Be careful not to pinch your fingers or hands whenclosingoropeningthekeycover.

Thetemperatureandhumiditywillaffecthowfastthekeycoverautomaticallycloses.

Thekeycovermaymakeafaintclickingsoundwhenasitslowlycloses.Thisisnormal.

Using the music standThekeycoverservesasaconvenientmusicstand.

Whenplacingopenedmusic,donotapplystrongpres-sureontothekeycover.

Headphone EffectTheeffect(Stereosoundoptimizer)thatgivespresencetothe soundwhen the headphones are used can be turnedonoroff(Referto“Stereosoundoptimizer”onpage13).

Before You Begin

Assembling the C1/C1 Air PianoTheC1/C1Air includes thekeyboardunit, the standandanti-tippingbrackets,pedalunit,andspeakersystem.Fol-low the instruction foundonpage17 and fully assembleyourC1/C1Airbeforeproceeding.

FullyinsertthepowercordintotheACadapter,theninserttheDCplugintoDC24Vjackontheconnectorbox.Next,connectthepowercordtoanACoutlet.

Pass the AC adapter cord through the cord hook toprevent theDCplug fromaccidentally beingdiscon-nected.Whenyouunhookthecord,don’tpullonthecordwithforce.

UseonlytheACadapterprovidedwithyourC1/C1Air.Using adifferent adaptermay causemalfunctionsorother issues.

Besuretoplugthepowercordintoanoutletoftheap-propriatevoltage.

Operating the Key Cover

Opening the key cover

1. Using both hands, gently lift the key cover to begin to open it.

2. Fold down the front edge of the key cover.

TheplaybackofaSoundDemoSongcannotbepaused.

Listening to a Piano SongAswiththeSoundDemoSongs,youcanplayalongonthekeyboardwhileanyof thePianoSongsplay.Asyouplayalong, you can change the tempo, slowing the playbackdowntopracticeaparticular trickypart. Inaddition, theright-handandleft-handpartscanbemutedindividually,to focus on learning onepart as theC1/C1Air plays theother.

1. Press the PIANO SONG button.ThePIANOSONGbuttonlightsupandthenumberforthepianosong(001)appearsinthedisplay.

PlaybackofthePianoSongbegins.Whenplaybackofthefirstpianosongisfinished,play-backcontinuessequentiallywithsecond,third,etc.Whenplaybackof the fortiethpiano song isfinished,playbackbeginsagainwiththefirstpianosong.

2. Use the Play/Pause button to toggle between playback (button lit) and pause (button blinks).

3. Press the Stop button to end playback and return to the beginning of the song.

4. Press the DISPLAY button, and then, after the SONG LED is lit, press the + or – button beside the display to select a song.

5. Press the PIANO SONG button again to exit playback of Piano Songs.

DuringplaybackofaPianoSong,youcanplayusingthekeyboard;however,thesoundremainssettoGer-manGrandPianoandcannotbechanged.

Changing the tempoPress the DISPLAY button, and then, after the TEMPO LED is lit, press the + or – button to change the tempo.

WithPianoSongs, the tempo isdisplayedasapercentageoftheoriginaltempo.Thesettingrangeis–50%to+50%ofthe original.

Thesettingcontinuestochangewhilethebuttonishelddown.Torestorethetempototheoriginalsetting,simultane-ouslypressthe+and–buttons.Eachsong issavedwith itsowntempo,soselectingadifferentsongwillautomaticallychange the tempo tothe one savedwith that song, even if the tempowaschangedfortheprevioussong.Inaddition,theoriginaltempowillberestoredwhentheC1/C1Airisturnedoff.

Practicing a performanceWithPianoSongs,thelefthandisusuallyassignedtoPart1andtherighthandtoPart2.Bymutingoneoftheparts,theC1/C1Airwillplayonlyoneoftheparts—orhands—andyoucanplaythemutedpart.Thepartyouplayisuptoyou.

1. To mute the left-hand part, press the PART1 button; the button blinks in green. To mute the right-hand part, press the PART2 button; the button blinks in green.

Listening to the DemosBuilt intotheC1/C1Airare50preprogrammedsongs.Ofthese,10areSoundDemoSongsthathighlightthequalityofvariousinternalsounds.Theother40arefamiliarPianoSongsandetudes.

Duringplaybackofasounddemosong,thesettingsforeffects(reverbandchorus)cannotbechanged.

Listening to a Sound Demo Song

1. Simultaneously press the PIANO SONG button and the TRANSPOSE button.ThePIANOSONGbuttonblinks,andthesoundbuttonslitsequentially. Inaddition,thenumberforthesounddemosong(d01)appearsinthedisplay.

Afterabout3 seconds, thePIANO1buttonblinks, thePlay/Pausebuttonlightsup,andplaybackoftheSoundDemoSongbegins.Whenplayback of SoundDemoSongd01 is finished,the remaining SoundDemo Songswill play back se-quentially.Whenplaybackofd10isfinished,playbackbeginsagainwithd01.Atthistime,thesoundbuttonforthesongbeingplayedbackblinks.

2. When the sound buttons are blinking sequentially, press the sound button for the demo song that you want to hear.Ifadifferentsoundbuttonispressed,evenwhileasongisbeingplayed,playbackofthecorrespondingdemosongwillbeginafterafewseconds.Inaddition,asongcanbeselectedbypressingthe+or-buttonbesidethedisplay.

3. Press the Stop button to end playback, and press the Play/Pause button to return to the beginning of the song.While the song is stopped, the PIANO SONG buttonblinks,andthesoundbuttonslightupsequentially.

4. Press the PIANO SONG button again to exit playback of Sound Demo Songs.

The tempo cannot be changed during playback of aSoundDemoSong.Inaddition,themetronomecannotbeused.

Playing the C1/C1 Air

Playing a single sound (Single Mode)You can select a sound from the thirty sounds supplied withtheinstrument(10soundsx3banks).

1. Press the sound button for the sound that you want to play.Theselectedbuttonwilllightup.

2. Press the BANK button to select one of the three sounds.Each press of the BANK button switches the bankin the order 1, 2, 3, 1, ..., and the correspondingLED to theright of the BANK button will light up. For example, to select the Honky-Tonk Piano sound,pressthePIANO2button,afterwhichitsbuttonlightsup.Then,presstheBANKbuttontwicetoselectbank3(Honky-TonkPiano);theLEDbelowandtotherightoftheBANKbuttonwilllightup.Inaddition,thebankselectedforasoundbuttonremainsthesame,evenifadifferentsoundbuttonis pressed.

Each time the C1/C1 Air is turned on, the sound inbank1isselectedforallsoundbuttons.

PlayingtheC1/C1AirwhileusingasinglesoundsuchasanacousticpianoisreferredtoastheSingleMode.TheC1/C1AircanalsobeplayedinLayerModeorPartnerMode,whicharecharacteristicofdigitalpianos.

Effects

BrillianceThiseffectchangesthebrightnessofthetone.

The setting can be changed by holding down the BRIL-LIANCE button and pressing the + or – button beside the display.

The setting appears in the displaywith 003 producing abrightersoundand001producingalessbrightsound.

Brilliancecannotbeturnedoff.

Thesamesetting isappliedtoallsoundsandremainsapplieduntiltheC1/C1Airisturnedoff.Whenthein-strumentisturnedon,thedefaultsetting002isselected.

Byperformingthe“Saveparametersettings”(seepage13)operationbefore turnedoff, thenewsettings spec-ifiedforeachsoundcanbesavedasthedefaultsettings.

ReverbThiseffectaddsambienceanddepthtothesound,produc-ingthesenseofperforminginaconcerthall.

Each press of the REVERB button turns the reverb on (button lights up) or off (button turns off).To change this setting, hold down the REVERB button and press the + or – button beside the display.

What can you do with MIDI?ThankstoMIDI,youcanusetheC1/C1Airtocontrolotherinstruments, use other instruments to control the C1/C1Air,anduseasequencertocreatecomplexmusicalpieces.WhenyouusetheC1/C1Airkeyboardorpedal,orselectasound, thenotes,pedalactivationandchange insoundaretransmittedtoanotherinstrument,orarerecordedbya sequencer.

1. When the C1 Air is turned on, it enters the pairing standby mode.Pairingisenabledforonly1minuteafter“120”appearsinthedisplaywhentheC1Airisturnedon.

2. Turn on the Bluetooth function for the device to be connected to, and then select “KORG C1Air” in the list of the settings screen that appeared.When a message appears, requesting permission forpairing,allowpairing.Whenapasskeyisrequested,enter“0000”.

TipThepasskeymayalsobecalledaPINcode,pass-word,etc.

3. If pairing is successful, the connected device enters a connection-ready mode and displays a connection with “KORG C1Air”.

Reconnecting to a paired device

5. Lift up the speaker box so that the brackets (A) on the left and right side panels pass through the dents in the speaker box. When the brackets (A) are fully hidden within the speaker box, push the speaker box forward so the rear of the speaker box is nearly flush with the edges of the side panels. Then, the speaker box can be released.

12. Use the cord holder to hold the pedal cord.Aftersecuringthecordwiththecordholder,ensurethatexcesspressureisnotappliedtotheconnectors.

13. Connect the dedicated cord to the AC adapter. Then, plug the AC adapter into the DC 24V connector, and wrap the cord around the cord hook of the piano. For details, refer to “Connecting the Power” on page 5.

14. Place the C1/C1 Air where you intend to use it. Makesure to place it in a safe location where the floor is flatand stable.

When setting the digital piano in place, make surethatthestanddoesnotrestontheACadaptercableorpedalcable.
