C10D and C20D HARMONIC COMPENSATOR

Applications

The C20D series Compensator provides a very good cost-filtering relation. It reduces the triplen harmonics (3rd, 9th, 15th), and eliminates this way the main problems in office installations, which are overloaded neutral conductors and a high neutral-earth voltage. Additionally a reduction of the remaining problems caused by harmonics is obtained. It is necessary to install the C20D always in combination with the Impedance Adaptor C10D in order to obtain the most optimised filtering and functionality.

Considerations for the installation

Especially recommended for installations with a high number of single phase harmonic generating loads: • Computer equipment • Fluorescent illumination and discharge lamps • Frequency converters • Variable speed drives for DC motors • Power supplies and rectifiers • Elimination of overloads in neutral conductors produced by triplen harmonics (3rd, 9th, 15th), obtaining:

- Reduction of construction and maintenance costs of the electrical installation as the neutral conductors don’t need to be over dimensioned.

- Reduction of the electricity invoice as there are no unnecessary losses in the neutral conductors. - Prevention against fire due to overheating of the neutral conductors. - Avoid tripping of 4 pole circuit breakers.

• Reduction of the current consumption and improving power factor thanks to which the available power of

UPS systems, transformers and generators increases. • Reduction of harmonics guaranteeing a better functioning of all electrical equipment in the installation.

In case the installation is already constructed and operating, it is necessary to carry out some harmonic measurements on the point where the Compensator will be installed (the best location is end of he three phase network, as close as possible to the loads). This Compensator type can be installed in case the 3rd harmonic voltage is below 2,5%. In case the 3rd harmonic voltage is higher than 2,5%, a Compensator type with galvanic isolation is necessary (models C25D and C30D). In case the installation is not yet constructed or operative or will be expanded in the future, the best solution is to install or prescribe a Compensator type with galvanic isolation (models C25D and C30D).

Applications

Filtering levels

Considerations for the installation

Division of the loads

The C22D Compensator offers an elevated filtering of the harmonics of the 3rd, 5th, 7th, 9th, 15th, 17th, 19th order, solving therefore all possible problems that harmonics can cause in the installation. The C22D Compensator is used in combination with the C20D Compensator. In order to obtain the most optimised filtering and functionality it is necessary to install a C10D Impedance Adapter which each Compensator.

The C22D Compensator is used in combination with the C20D Compensator. Each of these supplies 50% of the load to be filtered. The 5th, 7th, 17th and 19th harmonics are compensated between the two loads and the triplen harmonics (3rd, 9th, 15th) are filtered in the windings of the Compensators. In order to obtain the most optimised filtering and functionality it is necessary to install a C10D Impedance Adapter which each Compensator.

C25D HARMONIC COMPENSATOR WITH GALVANIC ISOLATION

Applications

• The C25D series is totally eliminating the triplen harmonics (3rd, 9th, 15th), avoiding any type of overload in the neutral as well as a high neutral-earth voltage produced by harmonics.

• The galvanic isolation of the C25D Compensator provides additional advantages such as: reduction of the electromagnetic disturbances coming from the supply network, optional voltage adaptation and the possibility to use independent earths as the neutral is isolated from the mains.

Advantages

Filtering levels

Using several Compensators

• Reduction of harmonics and electromagnetic disturbances guaranteeing a better functioning of all

electrical equipment in the installation.

The C25D Compensator is available in two versions offering different phase shifts (0º and 180º) for the 5th and 7th harmonic. By combining both versions, elimination of the 3rd, 5th, 7th, 9th, 15th 17th and 19th is obtained, filtering all harmonics that can appear in an installation. This configuration is also very suitable for installations where due to technical prescriptions or standards and legislations a high level of filtering is required.

C30D HARMONIC COMPENSATOR WITH GALVANIC ISOLATION

Applications

The C30D is the Compensator that achieves the highest level of harmonic filtering in office installations. It eliminates the 3rd, 5th, 7th, 9th, 15th, 17th and 19th harmonic avoiding therefore all possible problems that harmonics can cause in the installation. The C30D is also suitable for installations where due to standards and legislations a high level of filtering is required.

Division of the loads

• It provides additional advantages such as: reduction of electromagnetic disturbances coming from the mains, optional voltage adaptation between input and output and the possibility to use independent earths as the neutral is isolated from the mains

Especially recommended for installations with a high number of single phase harmonic generating loads: • Computer equipment • Fluorescent illumination and discharge lamps • Frequency converters • Variable speed drives for DC motors • Power supplies and rectifiers • Elimination of overloads in neutral conductors produced by triplen harmonics (3rd, 9th, 15th), obtaining:

• Reduction of the current consumption and improving power factor thanks to which the available power of

UPS systems, transformers and generators increases. • Reduction of harmonics and electromagnetic disturbances guaranteeing a better functioning of all

electrical equipment in the installation.

The C30D Compensator consists of two secondary windings. Each secondary should supply 50% of the load to be filtered. The filtered harmonics are compensated in the secondary windings and do not circulate through the rest of the installation.
