City Hall is a 19th century grade I listed buildingoriginally designed in a Venetian Gothic style, withlater Italian and French influence additions added.The clock tower was inspired by the campanile ofthe Palazzo Vecchio in Florence. City Hall in itspresent form was completed in three stages.

The original part of City Hall was opened inSeptember 1873 but rapidly became too small todeliver the services required and was extendedin 1909. In 1914 the old Council Chamber wasremoved and replaced with a Ceremonial Staircasewhich it was felt was befitting the grandeur of thebuilding, as well as providing better access to thenew Council Chamber.

Since then, the services in City Hall havedeveloped to now include the registration of births,deaths and marriages.

The Register Office relocated to City Hall inOctober 2014 and was officially opened jointly bythe Lord Mayor of Bradford Cllr Mike Gibbons andMr Harry Gration, the Look North TV presenter .

As well as the Marriage Room on the ground floor,City Hall boasts additional facilities which canbe booked for use at the weekend for marriageceremonies. These are:1. The Reception Rooms (page 4)2. There are two reception rooms whichcan be used separately or togetheras they have a dividing internal door.Originally, these rooms were used by theLord Mayors. The rooms are generallyused for welcome drinks or buffets asthey are situated next to the kitchenand Banqueting Hall. These are idealfacilities for welcome refreshments,champagne or canapés .

Reception Room 1 is closest tothe Banqueting Hall and can seatapproximately 24 people. ReceptionRoom 2 features an imposing oval tablethat can seat 12 guests. The two rooms

can be used individually for small events,or both together for slightly larger parties.

The Banqueting Suite incorporates theBanqueting Hall and both ReceptionRooms.

The magnificent baronial elegance andsplendour of the Banqueting Hall is trulyawe-inspiring. Seating up to 110 guests witha traditional layout of a top table and 10

round tables. Alternatively the imposinglyregal horseshoe table can seat up to65 people

The Hall has hosted many high profilebanquets and receptions including two visitsby Her Majesty the Queen. It is also wherethe Lord Mayor holds many functions.

The Ernest Saville Room is a beautiful woodpanelled room which retains an air of calmformality ideal for smaller functions, seatinga maximum of 60 people.

City Hall specialises in banquets with awestern theme in line with what has beenprovided for royalty, presidents and primeministers who have dined under its roof,however, we also offer Halal South Asianfood and will endeavour to provide otherfood on request.

The services provided can be buffet, familyservice or waitress service, or you cansimply choose to have just canapés anddrinks to celebrate the union of two people,the registration of a birth or the naming of anindividual.

Atmospheric and intriguing, the courtroom holds many secrets that can only beimagined.
