From the Pastor
Peace be with you. I have been a Canon Lawyer since 1999. In 1997 Cardinal Law sent me to school to study Canon Law in Rome and I completed a license in 1999. I stayed two more years and earned a doctorate from the Pontificio Università della Santa Croce (Pontifical University of the Holy Cross). My doctorate was analyzing one paragraph in the law having to do with “incardination”; meaning an aspect of priests switching dioceses. Imagine spending two years of your life analyzing one limited thing! In the end I defended my doctorate (in Italian) and came back to work in the Chancery of the Archdiocese of Boston. Along the way I taught and practiced Canon Law and have been the Judicial Vicar since 2007. Here is why I am telling you all this - I am uniquely qualified to straighten out difficult canonical situations especially when it comes to marriage questions - yet few people in the parish ever take advantage of this. I know there are people in our parish who are in irregular marriage situations and most of them can be remedied. I think people assume that it is too complicated, but most situations are not. Many people are afraid of seeking annulments or asking questions because it would be too difficult or they think its expensive (it’s actually free). There are many people who don’t go to Church simply because they think they can’t based on their marital situation. If you know of someone in this predicament, whether they are from this parish or not, would you do me the favor of encouraging them to come talk to me? I happen to be a genuine expert at this. I give lectures on this all over the Archdiocese and even in other dioceses yet people in my own parish hesitate. You know me by now. I will not judge you or blame you or be anything but gentle. I want to help. The Summer is the perfect time to work on these cases as I have fewer responsibilities elsewhere. Here is a canonical quiz for you. See if you can figure it out: A Catholic man was married to a Baptist woman by her father who is a Baptist Minister. Because her father was a minister they tried to get him to become a Baptist and they refused to have any connection with the Catholic Church prior to that marriage. The couple was divorced and a few years later he met a Catholic woman. Neither one of them were practicing their faith so they were married by a Justice of the Peace. Now the couple have rediscovered their Catholic faith and they want to come back. Do you know what is required for them to do that? The answer is - not much. No annulment is necessary. We could handle that case in about two weeks if they wanted to get their marriage recognized in the Church and then back to receiving Holy Communion. All they would need would be to have access to someone who was an expert on all these things. Now where do you think they could find one of those? (Psst... me - that’s who) Blessings on you and your families, Bishop Mark

Affirming Life Quote
St. Mother Theresa
“I feel that the greatest destroyer of peace today is
abortion, because it is a war against the child, a direct
killing of the innocent child, murder by the mother
herself.”
Please join us in recitation of The Holy Rosary, for the sanctity of all human life, immediately after the 9 and 11 Mass. We gather in the first pew in front of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
April 22 ~ Fourth Sunday of Easter
“I am the good shepherd, I know mine and mine
know me.” These words from today’s Gospel hold
both comfort and challenge! Are we willing to
respond to what Christ asks of us? We are not asked
to “go it alone.” We have the promise of Christ’s
presence as we go out to others and share the “Good
News.” Take time this week in prayer to listen to the
voice of our Good Shepherd and ask for the grace to
be responsive to His call.
