LUNG CANCER SCREENING Compass Medical offers a CT Low Dose Lung Cancer Screening program in our Easton Radiology location. Eligibility into the program requires each patient to meet criteria as per the Medicare National Coverage Determination (NCD) for CT Lung Cancer Screening.

Compass Medical offers ACR accredited CT scans in Easton. Our CT Technologists

maintain a current Radiography license with the Massachusetts Radiation Control Program and the ARRT

(American Registry of Radiologic Technologists).

• Individuals between the ages of 55-77• History of at least 30 pack years of smoking• A current smoker or former smoker who has quit within the past 15 years• Patient has not had a Chest CT within past 12 months• Patients who do not have symptoms of lung cancer• Patients who have participated in counseling that attests to shared decision making prior to the first CT Low Dose Lung Screening Exam.

DID YOU KNOW... Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death

and the second most diagnosed cancer in both men and women in

the United States. In 2011, 14% of all cancer diagnoses and 27%

of all cancer deaths were due to lung cancer.

WHY GET SCREENED?Lung cancer causes more deaths than any other cancer. Of all causes of death, lung cancer ranks second behind heart disease. The high number of deaths is due in part to lung cancer being found after it has spread. Cancer screening can help find lung cancer at an early stage when it can be cured.

The goal of lung cancer screening is to find lung cancer when treatments will work best. Treatments usually work best before there are symptoms of cancer. However, at this time, most lung cancer is found after symptoms appear. Common symptoms of lung cancer are:

See your doctor if you have these symptoms. Most often, they are caused by health problems other than lung cancer. If they are caused by lung cancer, talk with your doctor about treatment options. If you have no symptoms of lung cancer, a screening program may be right for you.
