DESCRIPTION
Introduction to C-mine, GenkTRANSCRIPT
The mine closures: an immense challenge for the city
7000 miners and their young successors
had to find a new job
Two mining seats that formed part of the urban fabric had to be redesigned and be converted into a new forward-
looking feature for the city
City motive:
Turning problem situations into opportunities
A diverse conversion process
Strong and impressive industrial heritage
Extensive complex of monumental buildings - buildings and interior/equipment are classified - conversion is no simple task
Development based on own potential resources - no ‘foreign’ large-scale project development
Give the site, with respect to the past, a new and significant function within the city
Give the site a powerful role in the Genk city label: innovation, creativity and sustainability
A site that attracts and inspires the citizens and at the same time offers opportunities for professional creatives and entrepreneurs
