STEWARDSHIP
A reflection by Mary Weber:Ever since the first Sunday of Advent, anyone attending the 9:15 Sunday Mass have seen the RCIA participants being dismissed after the homily to go downstairs and study the day’s Scripture. Since September, they have also been attending classes on Tuesday evenings, studying topics such as the Bible, the Sacraments, the commandments, morality, Jesus and His ministry, redemption, and much more. This year we have 4 very interested and enthusiastic members who will be completing their study and beginning their lives as Catholics at this year’s Easter Vigil.
At this year’s Easter Vigil, we will celebrate the Baptism of Carly Richards and Stewart Wilson. Carly attended LIFETEEN and is now making the decision to be Baptized Catholic. Stewart attends St. Helen with his wife Veronique and their son Alex.
Greg Potts and Natalie Wyatt will be professing their faith. This means that having been Baptized Christian, they are now professing that they believe all that Jesus has revealed through His Church. Greg and his wife Jeanette have two children, Lilah and Henry. Natalie’s two children, Cayden and Lilian, will also be Baptized on Holy Saturday.
Frank and Jean McBride, Travis Cook, Jim Sanders and Rob and Jackie Atlas faithfully attended the RCIA to learn more about the Catholic faith. And as always, we have a group of Catholics who offer their knowledge and support as sponsors and team members. Many thanks to Joe Chuckro,, Linda Koeth, Chris Bosler, Diane and Frank Corraro, Debbie Miraglia,, Lexie Journey, Ed Linsky, Maria Flauto, Veronique Wilson and Jeanette Potts for their support.
Please keep this year’s RCIA graduates in your prayers. And pray, too, for those who might be thinking about joining us next year.
WE ASK THAT YOU PAUSE A MOMENT AND PRAY FOR THOSE WHO ARE ILL IN OUR PARISH ESPECIALLY: Lucille Amadeo, Wayne Ardo, Sally Boyer, Mary Braford, Marilyn Cillian, Bill
Csonka, Bob D’Aurelio, Judy Donahue, Mary Ann Hudak, Paul Kovary, Katarina Kekedy, Sara Koval, Brendan McMeechan, Jim McPhillips, Linda Mulacek, Helen Nelson, Rosemarie Patrone, Frank Petsock, Lucy Pishnery, Martin & Sandy Polomsky, Pat & Evelyn Rowlands, John & Julia Strzalka, Jackie Stebnicki, Craig Walters, Father Dave Woost and Alex Yousefi.

THE DIVINE MERCY MESSAGE AND DEVOTION: The Divine Mercy message is one we can call to mind simply by remembering ABC: A – Ask for His Mercy. God wants us to approach Him in prayer constantly, repenting of our sins and asking Him to pour His mercy out upon us and upon the whole world.
B– Be merciful.GodwantsustoreceiveHismercyandletitflowthrough us to others. He wants us to extend love and forgiveness to others just as He does to us. C – Completely trust in Jesus. God wants us to know that the graces of His mercy are dependent upon our trust. The more we trust in Jesus, the more we will receive. This message and devotion to Jesus as The Divine Mercy is based on the writings of Saint Faustina Kowalska, an uneducated Polish nun who, in obedience to her spiritual director, wrote a diary of about 600 pages recording the revelations she received about God’s mercy: The Diary of Saint Faustina. Even before her death in 1938, the devotion to The Divine Mercy had begun to spread. Spend time to learn more about the mercy of God, learn to trust in Jesus, and live your life as merciful to others, as Christ is merciful to you.
FIVE MINUTE BIBLE STUDYMatthew 26:14–27:66
In Matthew’s Gospel, the events of Jesus’ death are very symbolic. First, it says Jesus gave up – yielded – His spirit –His death voluntary. The darkening, the torn curtain, (from the top, God saying it was no longer necessary) the earthquake, the dead rising, all show the passing of the old order and the beginning of the new. Life will never be the same again. The torn curtain shows that the way to God has been opened to all men. The centurion recognizes Him- those without preconceptions can sometimes see more. The woman’s loyalty contrasts the disciples' absence.Sometime this week, whether on your own, while sitting at the family dinner table or talking with friends, reflect on the following questions: What preconceptions about God are keeping you from truly seeing Jesus?
DID YOU KNOWThrough mercy we find grace.
Trust in the power of Christ’s Cross! Receive His reconciling grace and share it! – Pope Francis
“IT’S A MATTER OF LIFE...”Today, we often hear that we are engaged in a spiritual warfare. That statement is not a mere metaphor nor is it hyperbole. The body count of that warfare increases daily through putting innocent preborn children to death in the womb. There is increasing talk of accepting “post-birth abortion" – executing children already born. The blood lust from the culture of death not being satisfied, putting the elderly and disabled to death when their living becomes inconvenient or too costly, when a cost/benefit formula enters the equation and the death toll mounts. For Christians, this spiritual warfare demands that we return fire. Apathy or aloofness is not acceptable. As Christian soldiers, retreat is not an option. God is the one who placed us in this time so He gives us what we need to return fire. And if we are tempted to feel overwhelmed, instead, give thanks to God for the grace that puts us on His side in this battle. We are at one with His Church and that is no small thing.

“THE ONE GOD: ISLAM OR CHRISTIANITY?” Fr. Jerry will present a talk about the God of Islam and the God of Christianity. Are they really the same God? Profound differences exist even in the very meaning of the term “monotheism” (the fact that there is one God). Is God really our Father? Does God love us? Does He become involved in our world? Is each faith a “religion of the Book?” Muslims and Catholics differ profoundly on these and other questions, as they do on the nature of revelation itself. Come for the 7:30 p.m. talk on Thursday, April 27, in the PMR, and learn what is at stake as the world experiences a resurgence of the Muslim presence in the West.
THE ROSARYThe Rosary is the prayer of the simple and the humble. This Rosary story takes place on a train in France during the year 1891. The train was traveling from Dejon to Paris. An elderly man entered the train and sat across from a young university student. The old man took out his rosary and began praying. The university student sitting across from him said, “I see that you believe in that silly superstition.” The old man replied, “ As a matter of fact I do believe in the power of the rosary. Don’t you?” The university student stated he used to believe in that superstitious practice before he became educated and went to the university. Then he told the elderly man how he had lost his faith in studying science. He then asked the old man if he could read. The old man said yes. The student said, "I am going to send you books so you can get educated and get rid of your superstitious beliefs and Catholic faith." The old man said "ok" and handed the young man his business card as he exited the train. The young student received the shock of his life. The business card said Dr Louis Pasteur, Scientific Research, University of Paris. Here a leading world scientist was humbly praying his rosary on the train as he was going to work.

PALM SUNDAY OF THE PASSION OF THE LORD APRIL 9, 2017
TUITION PAYMENTS: If you are having difficulty making your scheduled tuition payments for 2016-17, please call Cindy Yokules at (440) 564-5805, ext. 209.
PARENTS OF PRESCHOOL AGE CHILDREN: The preschool setting is the first experience that many children have in a structured school environment with teachers and peers. Preschoolers learn to share, follow directions and they begin to build the knowledge, skills, and confidence to excel in the Kindergarten setting. Registration for 2017-2018 has begun. If you were unable to attend our Catholic Schools Week Open House, we are still taking applications for classes for ages 3-5. For more information, contact Joanna Fear at (440) 564-7125, ext. 235.
DIOCESAN TUITION ASSISTANCE UPDATE : To apply for Diocesan Tuition Assistance for Kindergarten through Eighth Grade, log onto www.smartaidforparents.com. Our school code is 13698. Applications filed in February will be considered for distribution in March.
EDCHOICE SCHOLARSHIP: The EdChoice Scholarship is available to any family, if the family income level falls within the Federal Poverty Guidelines. This scholarship is available to students entering Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade in the Fall 2017. Good News for the 2018 application period, renewal and new applicants currently attending 3rd grade will be added to EdChoice Expansion eligibility. These will be first-time fourth graders in the 2017-2018 school year. Please be aware that all Expansion Awards are based on proposed funding within the upcoming state budget. This scholarship amount is $4,164.00 for elementary students who qualify and is renewable through 12th grade. The Forms for EdChoice Scholarship are available in the school office and on our website. Refer all questions to Sr. Sandy.
