Beyond custom product engineering, Chromalox remains a leader in designed systemsbecause we control the manufacturing process from the first component to the finishedproduct. While some companies simply assemble purchased parts, our vertical integrationof product manufacturing allows tight control of all procedures. Because Chromalox manu-factures the component parts, we can adjust to meet customers’ critical requirements.

Pressure VesselsChromalox has maintained an ASME-quality program in-house since 1953. Chromaloxpressure vessel approvals also include PED certification required by the EuropeanUnion. This experience and dedication to quality ensure safe and reliable operationfor many years of service.

SensorsChromalox manufactures its own control sensors, such as thermocouples, allowing us to custom-design sensor lengths, sizes, temperature ranges, etc.

Power ControlsChromalox can design power control components neededto meet the process demands. Options can include contac-tor control for a cost effective design all the way throughfull SCR control of a temperature-critical process.

Final AssemblyChromalox brings all of the manufactured componentstogether to complete the final system. This includes electrical wiring to NEC/IEC standards, mechanical fit-ups,and even a customized paint scheme, if desired.

Having control from the very beginning of every step of the process, Chromalox can ensurethat the highest quality is designed and manufactured into each product and allows us toproduce systems that are tailored to our customers needs and requirements.

Heavy-Duty Heating ElementsChromalox manufacturers its own heating elements in systems to exacting standards. ELECTRIC HEAT OFFERS SIGNIFICANT BENEFITS ANDADVANTAGES OVER OIL- OR GAS-FIRED SYSTEMS

There are a lot more “green” reasons beyond environmental concerns to choose electric heart over oil-and gas-fired heat systems. Electric heat offers a number of advantages that can benefit manufacturersin saving or reducing manufacturing, installation, operating, maintenance, and capital costs. Improvedsafety and the ability to meet or exceed regulatory issues are important considerations, too.

Consistent PricingElectric utility prices have been very consistent, averaging only 4% yearly increases. This allowscustomers to accurately determine operatingcost without gambling on the volatile prices ofgas or oil. Gas and oil prices tend to be erratic, with prices surging every winter.

Clean Running OperationWith electric heat there is no additional expenseof installing exhaust piping, fuel or gas inletlines, storage tanks for fuel oil, or air inletlines–not to mention the factory space lost toaccommodate such a system.

No PollutionElectric converts 100% of the power input intoheat energy with no pollutants generated. Fueland gas-fired systems produce pollutants thatmust be monitored and controlled in accordancewith EPA regulations.

Quiet OperationElectric heaters have no combustion noise andminimal moving parts. This greatly reduces con-cerns over meeting OSHA noise regulations.

Reduced Footprint and Envelope SizeCompared to some similar oil and gas heatingsystems of similar outputs, electric heaters aretypically one-quarter to one-half the size.

Minimal MaintenanceDue to the simpler operations of electric heaters(i.e., no combustion controls) very little mainte-nance is needed. In addition, electric elementscan be easily replaced by service personnel.

Lower Operating CostDue to the complexity of controlling a fuel/airmixture in a fuel or gas system, a full-time,trained technician may be needed for its opera-tion. In addition, without continual tuning, gasand oil units can have reduced efficiencies.

Safety ConcernsElectric heaters have no open flames. Flame-operated systems may require installation awayfrom any potentially combustible areas.

Large Turndown / Precise ControlWith multiple staging or an SCR power control, electric heaters can respond rapidly and precise-ly to varying process conditions for operatingcost savings. The large turndown ratios possiblewith electric heat drops operating costs propor-tionally, while turndown ratios of other heat tech-nologies, e.g. steam, deliver a diminishing returnof operating cost reduction.

Steam and Hot-Water BoilersThese are safe and versatile heat sources that produce low- or high-pressure steam or hot water for commercial and industrial processes and for comfort heating applications. Chromalox packaged steam andhot-water boiler units operate from existing distribution voltages, makinginstallation simple.

Air Temperature Control SystemsChromalox air temperature control systems provide durable, accuratetemperature control for large-capacity, temporary heating applications.Welded steel construction, tubular elements, and an industrial fan provide superior durability and performance under heavy use and inrough environments.

Load BanksChromalox load banks provide durable, precise energy control for applica-tions requiring anywhere from 1 kW to multi-megawatts of power. Allunits are subjected to a high-voltage flash test, an insulation resistancecheck, and a simulated load test for assured performance, and can holdresistance within ±5 percent of hot operating resistance. They are fabri-cated from stainless steel and feature overtemperature protection withfan interlock.

Impedance Heating SystemsImpedance heating systems employ the "Joule Effect" to produce anddirectly transfer heat from the entire circumference and length of pipe tothe material being heated. It can be used for proper temperature mainte-nance as well as to raise fluid temperature. Utilizing the pipe itself andminimum equipment, installation is simple. Temperature control is highlyaccurate–to within ±1ºF–and higher watt densities–up to 190 W/in.2

–can be used due to increased velocities with lower pressure drops.
