Africa Cancer Care, Inc.6011 Telephone Rd, Houston, TX 77087713-995-8000Non-Profitwww.africancancercareinc.org Africa Cancer Care, Inc., a group of individuals devoted to bridging disparities in cancer care in the United States and Africa, was founded in 2005 as a result of the looming cancer predictions for Africa by the World Health Organization and other International health bodies. Their mission is to create a path to a cancer-free world step by step.
Their goal is to create cancer awareness and prevention through education, early detection and treatment. Africa, a continent of developing countries, is ill equipped for the devastation that will be wrought by cancer by the year 2020. Africa lacks the infrastructure, expertise, and technology to halt cancer in its track. This is compounded by the complete lack of cancer awareness that exist in the various communities of Africa. Many people in some African countries still think cancer is a consequence of the evil spirit. Cancer accounts for 12.5% of world deaths, greater than the percent of deaths caused by HIV/AIDS, TB and malaria combined. By 2020, 15 million new cases of cancer are expected yearly, 70% of which will occur in developing countries. 5-year survival is 10% for Africa compared to 70% in developed countries.Brask, Inc. - Neela8720 Industrial Dr, Pearland, TX 77581(337) 882-1944Manufacturingwww.ieeinc.netBrask Inc., Neela will employ twenty-seven people in its first full year of operation, with projected growth being upwards of 100 employees. What is Partners for Pearland?
Partners for Pearland was founded in June 1994 by a small group of business owners and concerned citizens with a desire to raise funds to help make a difference in children’s lives. The group organized and started its fundraising efforts in the fall of 1994 with a Bowl-A-Thon benefiting the Muscular Dystrophy Association. In 1996, realizing that the need for help with books, school supplies and clothing for school aged children in the Pearland area was not being fulfilled, Partners for Pearland changed its fundraising focus and began the Bowling for Books Bowl-A-Thon. In 1998, Partners for Pearland held its first Annual Golf Tournament at Country Place Golf Course and it has become an annual event. With the generous support of local business owners and individuals, Partners for Pearland has raised over $300,000. These monies have been used to purchase school clothing and school supplies for eligible Pearland area students. Partners for Pearland will also award college scholarships as well as scholarships to acquire GEDs to less fortunate students so that they may have access to a future through academic and vocational training. If you are aware of someone in need of assistance, please contact Stacy Adams at 281-798-1846 or the Pearland Neighborhood Center at 281-485-1987.
