Calibrating the systemTwo possibilities:1. The patient stands with an extended
knee between parallel bars or with crutches
2. The patient sits on a chair with an extended knee and his leg resting on the heel
• There may not be any load on the spring or any movement in the knee joint!!!
Calibration is required each time a connection has been established

• Only walk within the parallel bars
• Only walk on level ground
• Don´t walk on ramps & stairs
• Don´t walk backwards
• Never let the patient walk unattended by a technician

2. For adjusting the STP Flexion Damping, the patient should sit down on a chair several times
• Both feet side by side • Distribution of the weight evenly on both
legs• The patient is either using the armrests or
the help of a therapist for support• The chair must have an appropriate height
The patient shouldn´t sit down too slow or too fast

3. Gaining trust in the STP Flexion Damping• The patient stands in a ´step forward
position´ in the parallel bar and bends the knee under load
With this exercise the patient is gaining trust in the C-Brace® -system within a short time and he/she is prepared for the first steps
Aim: The patient should perform the exercise with the minimum possible support of the therapist

4. Adjusting the Maximum Toe Load• Observe the toe load while the patient is
walking a few steps• Decrease the value untill the patient is
reliably triggering the swing phase
• The following criteria must be fulfilled:Toe load with simultaneous knee extension
The support of the arms should be reduced while practicing

5. Practicing the stance release while walking within the parallel bars
• Aim for a consistent gait velocity• Aim for an even distribution of the weight on
both legs• Check track width while walking
Pezziball-exercise:• Step position with the contralateral leg in the
front• Simulate toe load with an extended joint• Touch the ball with a kick movement of the
leg that is wearing the orthosis

To experience the benefits of the C-Brace® and clarify the differences to other existing systems the following functions can be demonstrated with the Trial Tool :
• Locked system LOM + Max Toe Load to the max.
• SCO LOM, Max Toe Load
• SSCO 1st mode
• Possibly activate STP Flexion Damping Plus for demonstration

Why can´t the patient use the Trial Tool properly?• Swing phase release isn´t working
Is the knee extended at the end of the STP? Is the Max Toe Load setting adjusted correctly?
• The patient is sinking into the system while walking Is he/she having a knee- or hip bending contraction? Possibly the STP Flexion Damping Plus can help & should be
tested

Main criteria:The patient must be able to reliably trigger the swing phase while walking on level ground!
• Is an upright position possible?
• Is the patient able to apply the product and remove it?
• Does the general physical constitution allow the treatment? (e.g. the patient isn´t totally exhausted after walking short distances)
• The Trial Tool test protocol can be used as a guideline and a support while testing a patient
