ALARM RESPONSE SHEET - STAR

SIGNAL NAME DESCRIPTION ALARM LIMITS STARTEMP.SUP Star Mag Water Supply Temp. (HiHi/Hi/Lo)

(≤85-f = normal) 95/85/65°F ACTION: 1. Verify temp is outside limits.

2. If temp. is >85f, notify STAR shift leader on ext. 4242 that they should monitor temperature and the STAR cooling system for possible automatic shutdown if temp. reaches 95f.

3. Check that MANUAL/AUTO Switch for Star Magnet Temp. Control Valve (TCV)

is in Auto position. a) If not, place in AUTO and observe temp.

4. Verify that tower water temp is within limits 50/95°F Summer 38/95°F Winter.

a) If not, see that response sheet.

5. Verify that tower water flow is within limits ≈2000 GPM. a) If not, see that response sheet.

6. For HiTemp alarm TCV indicator should be in Max Cooling Position.

a) If not, place AUTO/MANUAL selector in manual and lower output in 5 psi increments until temp is 5º below hi limit.

b) Check that tower fans & tower pumps are in Auto and are running. If not: Check and fill basin if necessary, place tower fans & pumps in auto and

observe that one or more cycles on. If not try manual. c) Observe system temp and adjust. d) Advise MCR that Pumps will shut down 3 mins after system supply reaches 95 f.

7. For lo temp alarm TCV indicator should be in the minimum position.

If not: Check that selector is in auto.

SIGNAL NAME DESCRIPTION ALARM LIMITS STARPRES.SUP Star Magnet Supply Pressure (Hi/Lo)

(170-200 psig = Normal) 225/150 ACTION: 1. Verify press is outside limits. 2. If pressure is <150 psig. or >225 notify STAR shift leader on ext.

4242 that the cooling system is out of normal parameters and cooling may be effected.

3. Check that Selector Switch to Press. Control Valve (PCV) is in

auto. a) If not: place in Auto and observe press.

4. If ≤125 check that man/auto selector is in auto & observe press for

a few min. If still low switch to manual and raise pressure output in 5 psi increments until press ≈165-185 psig.

5. If ≥200 check that selector is in auto and observe for a few min. If

still high place selector in manual and increase output to valve until press . ≈165-185 psig.

6. Note 3 & 1.

SIGNAL NAME DESCRIPTION ALARM LIMITS STARLVL Star Mag Water Level (Hi/Lo/LoLo)

(15"- 9"=Normal) 25/8/1 ACTION: 1. Verify level is outside Hi/Lo limits.

a) Pumps shut down @ ≤1". 2. If level is <8" notify STAR shift leader on ext. 4242 that a low level

condition exists and that they should monitor the system for possible automatic shutdown if level reaches 1".

3. Inspect B1006 and pump room for leaks.

4. If no leaks check that STARMKUP.OK light is on.

If not: Press Make-Up Reset switch for a few seconds to reset STARMKUP.OK. Check for flow thru deionizer. If not: Open bypass valve at solenoid until level = 15", then close bypass valve.

5. For Hi level check that solenoid bypass is closed.

If not: close valve. If level still rises, close Make-Up valve @ solenoid.

SIGNAL NAME DESCRIPTION ALARM LIMITS STARFLO Star Magnet Water Flow (Hi/Lo/LoLo)

(1100-1300 GPM=Normal) 1500/1000/500 GPM ACTION: 1. Verify Low flow ≤1000 GPM. 2. If flow is <1000gpm. notify STAR shift leader on ext. 4242 that a

low flow condition exists and that they should monitor the system for possible automatic shutdown if flow reaches 500gpm.

3. Advise MCR (Pumps will stop @ ≤500 GPM).

4. Check B1006 Pump Room, Assy Build and Exp Hall for leaks.

5. Check other system parameters:

a) Pressure is between 165 and 185 psig If less than 150: check that manual/auto selector is in Auto. If greater that 200: check manual/auto selector is in Auto. If press remains high switch to manual and lower output press in 5 psi increments until system press ≈175psi.

4. Observe that system resistivity rises above 5 megohm.

<50 psig ACTION: 1. Verify compressed air pressure with press gauge. 2. If air pressure is <50psig. notify STAR shift leader on ext. 4242

that a low air pressure will affect the operation of all temperature and pressure control valves.

3. Check that manual valves are open.

4. Check compressor in B1006 Support Building.

a) If compressor is off - Call Plant Engineering Site Shift Supervisor at x4174, cell – 872-8988 or C/W desk x4284 during off hours.

100/50 Gal in 10min ACTION: 1. Check B1006 Pump Room, Assembly & Exp Hall for leaks. 2. If make-up is >50gallons, notify STAR shift leader on ext. 4242 that

the system will shutdown if the make-up reaches 100 gallons in a 10 minute make-up cycle.

3. If HiHi, advise MCR Pumps will shut off in 3 min.

4. Advise MCR, isolate leaking device.

3. Verify that 80 ton chiller water temp is within limits. 40/55°F.

a) If not, Call Plant Eng. Site Shift Supervisor at x 4174, x4284 or cell 872-8988.

4. Verify that 80 ton chiller water flow is within limits. a) If not, Call Plant Eng. Site Shift Supervisor at x 4174, x4284 or cell 872-

8988.

5. 6. For lo temp alarm TCV indicator should be in the bypass position.

If not: Check that the manual/auto selector is in auto.

(Pump 1 ≈125 psig = Normal) 160/75 (Pump 2 ≈145 psig = Normal) ACTION: 1. Verify press is outside limits. 2. If pressure is <75psig. or >160psig notify STAR shift leader on ext.

4242 that the cooling system is out of normal parameters and cooling may be effected.

3. Check that Selector Switch to Press. Control Valve (TCV) is in auto.

a) If not: place in Auto and observe press.

4. If ≤75 check that man/auto selector is in auto & observe press for a few min. If still low switch to manual and lower pressure output in 5 psi increments until press eauals rating for online pump.

5. If ≥160 check that selector is in auto and observe for a few min. If

still high place selector in manual and increase output to valve until press. <160psig.

flow condition exists and that they should monitor the system for possible automatic shutdown if flow reaches 200gpm.

3. Advise MCR (Pumps will stop @ ≤200 GPM). 4. Check B1006 Pump Rm, Assembly Build., Exp Hall and Power

Supply mezzanine for major leak.

5. Check other system parameters: a) Level is ≥9 inches. b) Pressure is between 125 and 160 psig.

7. For lo temp alarm TCV indicator should be in the closed position.
