Thanksgiving Baskets—We will again be giving away Thanksgiving baskets to those in the Dubuque community who request a Thanksgiving meal for their family. The KCs at St. Columbkille have generously offered to provide 100 turkeys and bags of potatoes to accompany the baskets. So we are asking for parish families between St. Joseph the Worker and St. Columbkille to provide the other items in the gift boxes. They include the following: stuffing, turkey gravy, yams, cranberry sauce, canned green beans and cream of mushroom soup, corn or other vegetable, jello, canned fruit, and a $10 Hy-Vee gift card (for the recipient’s purchase of a pie and/or dinner rolls). If you would like to provide the entire dinner menu listed above for a family, please put it in a sturdy box and return it to either church by Monday, Nov. 14th. Thanks for your anticipated generosity.

Dear Parishioners,

Be Hope-Full! In today’s Gospel, Zacchaeus drops from a tree into the hands

of Jesus’ mercy, just like ripe fruit. This tough public sinner cheated everyone.

He was hated by the local people. Yet inside his heart, the Holy Spirit was

prompting him to seek Jesus. When he did this, Jesus openly came to his

home, bringing salvation to his house!

There is hope for everyone in God’s mercy. Mercy means to forgive someone

when the person does not deserve it. That is how God loves us and that is how

He wants us to love one another. Let us continue to be “Mercy in Motion!”

Thank You for participating in the family of God.

This week, Tuesday, Nov. 1 is All Saints Day, a Holy Day when all Catholics

are to attend Mass. St. Joseph the Worker Masses are 8 am and 5:30 pm. St.

Columbkille Masses are 7:00 am and 8:50 am. See YOU there!

Blessings upon you,

Fr. Gabriel

Vocations Corner October 30, 2016 The Vocations Committee invites you to pray for Vocations, especially those to Priesthood or Religious Life!

Future Saints—This past summer, over 50,000 youth gathered at one of the 23 Steubenville Youth

Conferences. Throughout the conferences a huge crowd of youth worshipped and adored Our

Lord. Just 5 years ago, I was blessed to help chaperone, (along with many other adults) a group that

went to the Steubenville youth conference in St. Paul, MN. We gathered daily in the gym at the

University of St. Thomas after different retreat type talks, for praise and worship. Each day, as I

looked over the sea of teenagers who opened their hearts to God, I couldn’t help but think about

these early November feasts of All Saints Day and All Souls Day. You see, in that gym there were

well over 5,000 souls singing praises to our Lord for the duration of the day. During Adoration, the

youth dropped to their knees, reaching out to touch Jesus as He was processed around the gym.

Tears of joy, love and some of the most heartfelt praise and worship ever, surrounded me, and

WOW, they were all young people! The youth sang at the top of their voices for Jesus to hear! It

was an experience with our youth, that I have never forgotten. I hope and pray that one day I will

be able to sing again with all 5,000 of these souls, along with billions and trillions of others, as

Saints in heaven.

We celebrate all saints day as a way of reminding us where we are going, and we celebrate all

souls day as a way of helping other souls to complete their journey and to enter into the party in

heaven. All of us, every single one of us, are invited to enter into this eternal summit, but we have

to make the choice to accept God’s invitation to get there. The beautiful and inspiring thing about

the March for Life, was that it was clear that these teens want to do all that they can to journey with

the Lord, by defending life! All of us should be inspired by their example and seek to do the same

so that we can all praise God together. How do we accomplish this? By praying and asking God to

reveal the path to you. Today, pray, and let God continue to leave you on the right path!

Solemnity of All Saints Day is November 1 — Celebrate the Saints!

The Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed—All Souls Day—November 2—Pray with the

Vocations Committee, the Chaplet of Holy Souls

This Chaplet can be prayed on a set of Rosary Beads. Begin with: The Creed, then 1 Our Father, 3

Hail Marys, 1 Glory Be for the Pope’s intentions. On the large beads of the Rosary recite: “O holy

Souls draw the fire of God’s love into my soul to reveal Jesus crucified in me here on earth rather

than hereafter in Purgatory. Amen.” On the small beads of the Rosary recite: “Crucified Lord

Jesus, have mercy on the souls in Purgatory. Amen.” At the end of the entire prayer: (3 times)

“Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now and

ever shall be. Amen.” Merciful Father, hear our prayer and console us. As we renew our faith in

Your Son, whom You raised from the dead, strengthen our hope that all our departed brothers and

sisters will share in His resurrection, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God,

for ever and ever. Amen. Eternal Rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them.

May they rest in peace.
