Alfred Cloum, Worshipful Master

Brothers,

For several months we have been without a newsletter; while

this might appear that we were unconcerned about

communicating with the brethren, nothing could be further

from the truth. We were in the process of developing a

better format.

In the meanwhile, here is a bit of news from the lodge:

Michael Barker has been installed as your new Junior Warden.

Mike has demonstrated tremendous leadership and

proficiency in the work. Our new chaplain is James Gaston,

32°. We are confident that these two new officers will be

worthy successors in this line. Six of us visited Reed Lodge

recently and helped with some degree work there. We have

also raised two brothers this year. This year’s One Day Class

was performed with pleasure and perfection. We were

honored to have our Grand Master, George Ingles, play the

part of King Solomon in the second half with such efficiency.

Evansville #64 hosted the first half. Schofield House will be

on the agenda this year with an EA degree. WB Ken Roy will

preside in the East. Won’t you plan to join us for this? Our

fundraising is still going strong and could always use more

volunteers. We’re saving as much money as we can!

A Report from the Senior Warden

Joey A. Weigant

Brethren,

Grand Lodge Communication will be May 21, 22. As the Worshipful Master is unable to attend, I will be

going as the Master's proxy to represent Evansville Lodge #64. I take this responsibility very seriously and plan

to keep the interests of Indiana Freemasonry and our Lodge in mind as I conduct business. I have also been

informed that as William A. Reiners moves to his next position in Grand Line (he will be Senior Grand Warden)

I will have the honor of applying his Collar and Jewel. I am fortunate indeed.

As a member of the Advisory Board for the Rainbow Girls, I am proud to say they are very busy. They had a

bake sale at the Shrine Friday, May 3. They plan to have a sleepover at St James U.C.C. on the west side and

have invited the Raindrop Pledge Group to join with them. Saturday, May 25, the girls plan to hold a car wash

at the National Guard Armory at Lloyd and Vann. The future of Masonry is in our youth, whether it is with

DeMolay or Rainbow Girls. If you have children or grandchildren and wish to see our Lodge grow, please

consider inviting them to the youth groups.

Masonry is continuing to grow in Indiana and Evansville. Despite the ever present distractions, men are

looking to seek ways to become part of something larger than themselves. Freemasonry offers a place where

men can enjoy fellowship and fun, learning and teaching, and build for themselves that spiritual building not

made with hands, eternal in the heavens.

Fraternally,

Joey Weigant Senior Warden

Evansville Lodge #64

CAEMENTA

CAEMENTUM (more frequently in the plural, Caementa; Gk. λατύπη, σκύρος), rubble, or small undressed

stones, used together with mortar to form the caementiciae structurae or concrete walls with which the

remains of Roman buildings abound. This could represent the fact that, we as individuals, are rough, imperfect

stones, but together, using the Masonic Tools, can build a strong wall to protect each other and the Sacred

Mysteries and Truths of our Holy Order. Pronunciation: CAE (as in /sky/); MEN (as in /mən/; TA (as in /tɒ /.

This should serve to clarify change. Thank you.

York Rite News

Sir Knights,

Saturday, July 13th has been set as the date that Sir Knight Ed Fodrea of the Grand Commandery will

journey to Evansville Temple to conduct a Templar Academy for southern Indiana. This will be an all-day

event, conducted in a classroom atmosphere, so dress will be business casual.

The goal is to teach new leadership ideas and administrative procedures that could help us build

stronger commanderies for the future. Participants will receive a pin that is allowed to be worn on their

uniforms. All participating commanderies will also receive credit for taking part in the academy.

Because these knights are coming from northeastern Indiana, they have asked that we spread the

word and do everything we can to have as many in attendance as possible. Please spread the word and as

soon as I can secure more details, the word will be forward to you.

A Salute to a Veteran and a Brother

James R. Below, a member of Evansville #64, received a Purple Heart commendation from the U. S. Army forty-five years after he was wounded while serving in Viet Nam. U. S. Representative Larry Bucshon of the 8th Congressional District in Indiana presented the medal and ribbon to Brother Below in a ceremony at the Law Library of the Winfield K. Denton Federal Building in Evansville, IN. In addition to the Purple Heart, Brother Below was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal, with three bronze stars, and the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Unit Citation. We are so very proud of our brother for his service to his country and his bravery in action. May God continue to bless him and his family for many years to come.

Lodge #64 News

Saturday, April 20th Evansville Lodge #64 hosted the spring session of the Grand Master’s One Day Masonic Class.

Lodges all around southern Indiana came to enjoy the day and participate in its festivities. Most all of the

lodges were more than ready to help wherever there was a need. Not only did they bring their candidates but

they also brought their most talented ritualists, ready to fill in any vacant staffing roles and help see that

each conferral was well done. Even our very own Grand Master, George Ingles, made the journey to

Evansville to share the day with us. Grand Master Ingles himself, agreed to take up the crown of Solomon and

help with the Master Mason degree. Round this day out with breakfast by Lessing Lodge, Hadi Shrine hosting

lunch, conversations with our Scottish Rite and York Rite members and fellowship with our distinguished

Prince Hall guests. How much better could it get?

hen our own Most Worshipful Brother, Darrell Veach was Grand Master of the State of Indiana, he thought of a program that would reward and recognize brothers for the time and effort that they put into the lodges. Yet, no progress was made to actualize the any ritualist program at that

time. Some years later, Bill Crowell and Jim Jones, also from Evansville Lodge #64, were determined to make this program a reality. These two brothers designed a program that awarded point values to the various Masonic lectures that we deliver in open lodge and a leveling system that awards pins for the member’s progress. Those points are recorded and tallied under the brother’s specific lodge; the points are recorded under the Masonic district in which his lodge is located. This sets up a little friendly competition between lodges and inspires newer brothers to learn more and grow Masonically. The reins have now been passed on to me. I do not hope to improve on this program, but I faithfully will maintain its integrity for future ages. If anyone needs an enrollment form, please do not hesitate to ask me. There are also forms in the lobby of the Temple.

Fraternally,

Rex A. Goodman, PM Senior Deacon Evansville Lodge #64
