The project is an initiative of
Byron Shire Council in response
to issues raised during the
preparation of the Byron Shire
Tourism Management Plan.
It is designed to enhance the
visitor experience by improving
access to a greater range of
things to do in the Byron Shire
and to encourage visitors to get
out and see more of our shire.
It is also intended to align with
core community values and to
help build a sustainable tourism
industry with social, economic
and environmental benefits.
The project will focus on nature-
based, indigenous, cultural
and heritage experiences
and provide ‘cross-industry’
promotion with retail and food
experiences.
To develop the trails, a list of
the ‘top things to see and do’ in
the Byron Shire was compiled.
Experiences were grouped and
the following potential themes
were identified:
1. Arts and creativity trail
2. Food & produce trail
3. Hinterland trail
4. Short walks/ nature walks/
town walks
5. Second-hand trail
Primary marketing medium for
the project will be a Shire-wide
‘character’ map showing the
‘top things to see and do’ and
the visitor trails.
