Teaching and learning are essential to education, however the context has changed over time. We are living in the era of technology. We have moved away from learning from encyclopedias, dictionaries, and much more. Now most information can be found online. Many school districts are aware of this change and have implemented policies to assist educators and students with 21 st century learning. My current school system uses Microsoft hardware; therefore, to optimize student use I will use Windows as my platform. As an educator I also have to evolve by implementing a BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) plan for my own classroom.

As an educator of more than 10 years and a parent I am aware that all students do not have access to devices. Whether it is financial or parents simply do not want their children to have access to devices. I would make sure to accommodate for all of my students. To accommodate for all students’ BYOD would not be every day in my class. I would plan for BYOD on certain days and either schedule computer lab or arrange for student laptop check out on those days. This is to ensure that every child has access to a device.

Students will work on devices either with a partner or in a group to complete research projects not individually. For example, students will work with a partner or in a group to research Native American tribes for a living wax museum project. This project consists of multiple parts, which means that students will learn to share responsibilities and devices. One person can do research on the device while the others work on different aspects of the project. Students can also all choose to research at the same time in the computer lab or using a student laptop. This ensures that everyone has access to a device and no one feels left out.
