What’s an Oil spill An oil spill is when oil pours out of cars,tankers,and ships

carrying oil typically in the ocean.Contamination of sea

water due to an oil spill, as a result of an am mishap or

human error is termed as oil spill. Oil is among the most

important energy sources in the world and because of its

uneven distribution, it is transported by ships across the

oceans and by pipelines across the lands.

How do oil spills affect the EnvironmentIn general, oil spills can affect animals and plants in two

different ways: from the oil itself and from the response or

cleanup procedures. Understanding both types of impacts can

help spill responders minimize overall impacts to ecological

communities and help them to recover much faster. Most

animals that get affected are the Bluefin tuna, sea turtles,

sharks, Marine Mammals (Dolphins and whales ect.), and brown

pelicans.

most animals. Birds for example when they land in the oil

their wings get stuck so they end up sinking and die.

collects and removes oil from the surface of the

How to Help stop oil spillsYou may think that oil spills mostly happen from big

disasters but actually that's only 5% of the oil in the

ocean. For example a lot of this comes from cars, the oil

comes through sewers and into bodies of water. We could use

environment friendly cars that use little gas instead of cars

that need tons of gas. Also,find a new power source for cars

instead of gas. Finally, instead of having many air vents we

could purchase fans that do not use gas.
