FIRST PROJECT: THE CIVIL WAR

The Civil War revolved around slavery. People in the North, wanted slavery to stop, but the people in the South disagreed, because they wanted the extra help in the farms. More than 4,000,000 Africans were slaves.

THE SOUTH AND NORTH STATES The Southern States

wanted to become separate states because of the strong disagreement. The South (Confederates) felt that the government was not keeping in mind the best interests of the people; Whereas the Northern States, felt that Slavery was cruel and inhuman; The North (Yankees) wanted slavery to be eliminated completely.

PRESIDENT ABRAHAM LINCOLN

Abraham Lincoln was born on February 12, 1809 in Hardin County, Kentucky. Abraham Lincoln took office, and became president in 1860. Lincoln agreed with the North, and was strongly against Slavery.

LINCOLN’S OPINIONS

President Abraham Lincoln wanted the slaves to be free, but did not want to go to war. “At Lincoln's inauguration on March 4, the new president said he had no plans to end slavery in those states where it already existed, but he also said he would not accept secession. He hoped to resolve the national crisis without warfare.”

THE START OF THE CIVIL WAR

April 1861, “When President Lincoln planned to send supplies to Fort Sumter, he alerted the state in advance, in an attempt to avoid hostilities. South Carolina, however, feared a trick; the commander of the fort, Robert Anderson, was asked to surrender immediately. Anderson offered to surrender, but only after he had exhausted his supplies. His offer was rejected, and on April 12, the Civil War began with shots fired on the fort. Fort Sumter eventually was surrendered to South Carolina.”

“THE FALL OF THE CONFEDERACY” January 1865, “Transportation problems and

successful blockades caused severe shortages of food and supplies in the South. Starving soldiers began to desert Lee's forces, and although President Jefferson Davis approved the arming of slaves as a means of augmenting the shrinking army, the measure was never put into effect.”

THE REMAINING CONFEDERATES April-May 1865. The last of the

confederates were defeated between April and May. Jefferson Davis, the president of the confederates, was also captured. Captain Henry Witz, who was in charge of the Confederate Prison, was captured as well and had a military trial held from August 23rd to October 24th, and was hanged in the yard of the Old Capitol Prison on November 10th, 1865.

THE EMANCIPATION PROCLAMATION The Emancipation Proclamation was

signed by President Lincoln in July 1862. The Emancipation Proclamation guaranteed that all slaves from the confederate states would be free, and that slaves in all states would now be free and be guaranteed freedom.

THE FRENCH AND INDIAN WAR

SECOND: THE FRENCH AND INDIAN WAR The French and Indian war started in

1754, and it started a series of raids by the Indians; Including the Deerfield Massacre of 1704.

MAIN REASON FOR THE WAR

The main reason for the French and Indian war was the control of the water routes to the fur trading areas.

THE FRENCH AND INDIAN WAR “Participants in the French and Indian

War, were the Militia Regulars, Rangers, Indians, and a few Swiss and German Soldiers.”

ABOUT THE SOLDIERS

“The Militia was made up of volunteers from farms. The Regulars were hardly members of society. They were outcasts because of their economic economic changes. The regular officers had extremely strict discipline. Severe punishment was used to make sure soldiers had more fear from their own leaders than the enemy.

THE FRENCH

The French would capture people from the Indian tribes, and would torture information out of them. This was somewhat effective because the Indians could get out of the punishment by giving them information that would tell them: Battle stratagies and tactics, weaknesses, and overall information on the Indians.

THE END OF THE WAR

The end of the war was ended in 1763, and was won by the British and French. Most of the battles took place in Canada, and were mostly won by the British and French. The spoils from the war included the land of Canada and other things in the “New World.”
