  • Biome Biomes are climatically and geographically defined as communities of animals, plants and soil organisms. Biomes are often referred to as ecosystems. Examples of Biomes would be Tropical Forest, Ocean and Coral Reefs.

  • Coral Reefs Coral Reefs are underground structures made from calcium carbonate secreted by corals. Coral Reefs are found In marine waters with tiny living animals and contain few nutrients. Corals are themselves seen in variety of colors such as brown or green. This is a picture of Coral Reefs around The World.

  • Plants and Animals The main types of plants that are found in the coral reef environment are algae and sea grasses. These are the most important elements in the entire Reef ecosystem. The algae can range in various sizes. Animals: Coral reefs house at least 25% of life in the ocean, Animals use these as a shelter and can also be food for them. Corals are mainly habitats for sea anemones, sea jellies, sea urchins, sponges, worms, rays, lobsters, snails etc.

  • How Humans effect Coral Reefs Coral Reefs are home to some of the most diverse ecosystems on the planet. However, many are in danger of being destroyed by human activity. Tourism is one of reasons why Coral Reefs are in danger, as careless boat propellers and anchors can easily break the fragile corals. Overfishing, Aggressive fishing of any particular species affects animals and plants all along.
  • Slide 7
  • Global Warming Global Warming is affecting Coral Reefs in a big way as the warm temperature of water, takes away the plant which is necessary for the coral to retain its distinctive color. If the water gets warm, then the color will start to fade off the Coral.
  • Slide 8
  • Areas Of Interaction Environments: This project made us learn about the environments around us. We learned about the Coral Reefs, about the biome. How many animals live there, and how they interact in their ecosystem.
