The underslgned is directed to refer to DoPT's OMs, mentioned above and to state thatth~ proposal fa!" constitution. of the Search-cum-Selection committee as approved by Hon'bleMInister for SCience and Technology and Earth Sciences for filling up the post of DirectorlNIOT, Chennai, a post of pay scale PB-4 RS.37400-67000 + Grade Pay Rs.1 0,0001- had beensent for the approval of DoPT in terms of guidelines contained in DoPT OM No.AB.14017/11/2004-Estt. (RR) dt. 30-07-2007. These guidelines provide that the committeenormally consist of not more than five members including the Chairman.

2. . In this connection, it is intimated that the sald committee comprised of eight members,instead of the normal number of five, to take into consideration the possibility that one or twomembers may not be available on the date of meeting due to PIior commitments, as committeenomination is being done more than six months in advance, in accordance with the guidelinesformulated by the Hon'ble Minister.

3. In addition it may please be noted that MoES being a scientific ministry, committees .are generally required to have experts in all or most of the fields relevant to the areas beingdealt with by the concerned institution (whose post is being filled). The members incorporatedin the Search-cum-Selection committee are thus nominated keeping in view the representationof all areas l.e. Atmospheric Sciences, Geophysics etc.

4. In view of above, DoPT (Estt RR) is requested to accord necessary concurrence to theabove committee as proposed by MoES vide OM dated.1.1-12-2013.
