EXPERIMENT In 1903 Earnest Rutherford, Hans

Geiger, and Ernest Marsden launched a beam of alpha particles (uranium beam) at a sheet of gold foil. The alpha particle are highly positive charged and the experiment showed large deflections for a small fraction of incident particles. This led Rutherford to propose the atom was nuclear.
