What are rhetorical devices? Rhetorical devices are mainly used to gather an EMOTIONAL

RESPONSE in the audience. Another way rhetorical devices are used is to persuade an audience to

think in a certain way or to agree with a chosen outcome. These persuasive tools are also linked to argument and the way we can

put together a logical argument.

Techniques for doing this include:

Metaphor and simile Sentence structure Emotive Language Alliteration Onomatopoeia

Write a speech

Write your own speech to perform to the rest of the class based on a topic from the novel ‘5fingers’ e.g. Zodiac Kids and Gangs

What issues would your community have with youth and gangs hanging around on the streets?

What should the local council do to provide activities for teenagers in your area?
