Sherman Firefly Vc Holland Late 1944- Early 1945 Kit: Tasca Firefly Vc By Jeff Adams The model is a British, Sherman Firefly VC. the basic kit is by Tasca and is very good to build straight out of the box. I decided to depict a Firefly in the North West Europe Theatre (Holland), circa late1944/ early1945. There are quite a lot of period photos of Allied Shermans with spare track links welded to the hull and turret to give extra protection. I used a selection of types made by Bronco Models with kneadatite two-part putty to simulate the weld attachment points.

    Kit: Tasca Firefly Vc

    By Jeff Adams

The model is a British, Sherman Firefly VC. the basic kit is by Tasca and is very good to build straight out of the box.

I decided to depict a Firefly in the North West Europe Theatre (Holland), circa late1944/early1945.

There are quite a lot of period photos of Allied Shermans with spare track links welded to the hull and turret to give extra protection. I used a selection of types made by Bronco Models with kneadatite two-part putty to simulate the weld attachment points.

  • I experimented with surgical gauze soaked in water and white PVA glue mixture to simulate the camouflage netting on the barrel of the 17 pounder gun and was quite pleased with the result.

The brown 25 pounder stowage boxes welded to the radio and

blanket boxes at the turret rear, are Resicast items, as is the replacement stowage box

at the hull rear. Archer decals finished off the boxes nicely.

I also added some weld attachment points to the hull

  • Guitar strings (0.008 gauge) were cut to length and used for the two radio aerials.

The shell ejection door was opened and an Armorscale used shell case was added on the rear deck.

Lastly, a Karaya tow rope was draped across the hull

The figures are shown wearing Pixie suits designed for tank

crew and are produced in resin by Royal Models.

  • A final shot of the complete model.
