GIRBAU S.A. LAUNCHES THE NEW SERIES OF WASHER EXTRACTORS HS-4000 MODEL The new generation of washer extractors incorporates GDRIVE The new HS-4000 series of washer extractors captures the spirit of a design that is recognised and valued by the market for the future. "It is a pity the GDRIVE is hidden inside the machine, the benefits of which remain unnoticed until the machine is commissioned”, says the Engineering Director in charge of this series of machines. Inside an HS-4000 washer extractor you will find the fruits of more than 25 years of GIRBAU’s experience in the world of industrial laundry equipment. We have managed to design and manufacture a machine capable of analysing its own operation at all times, protecting itself from both internal and external incidents. The GIRBAU HS-4000 series washer extractor is an extremely quiet machine that works with a minimum use of water and energy hitherto unheard of in existing washing machines available on the market. GIRBAU, S.A. has developed the GDRIVE concept to generate a spark of intelligence within the governing and controlling system of the HS-4000 range of washer extractors. The GDRIVE concept is an efficient software tool capable of providing absolute control over the washing machine while it is connected to the mains supply regardless of whether the machine is in operation or not. The new HS-4000 series with GDRIVE incorporates a series of extraordinary functions. This makes it an ideal machine for installing in any laundry, no matter how extreme the conditions in which it has to operate, without having to modify any of the washing machine components. The beginning of the

century is very important

for the achievement of

our objectives.

The consolidation of the

business turnover of the

GIRBAU business group

rose from 54 mill euros

in 1998 to 63 mill euros

in 1999. Now in the year 2000 we continue growing in

a similar way.

But more important than just the actual figures, is the

creation of the foundations for a spectacular growth in

the years to come.

We have two factories. Factory number 1 with a completed

extension of 3500 sq.m. and the expansion of factory

number 2 which will add a further 4500 sq.m.

Our new centre of distribution in USA is a magnificent

reality.

The new HS-4000 series of washer extractors is a great

technological advance and a much more competitive

machine range.

It is a brilliant answer to all the specific needs, for any

washing process or any textile finishing. With this objective

in mind we have achieved an important evolution in our

recognised and reliable microprocessor with the

development of the GDRIVE.

At present, further products are being planned, in order

to respond to the needs of all our clients, whatever the

scope or the complexity of their requirements may be.

This is our vocation: to always offer the reliable solution.

To give it to the whole world, offering a Free Laundry

Project Planning and the most practical and economical

process of use as well as a local technical service in more

than 70 countries, with the stock of corresponding spare

parts. We also offer the support of an extensive updated

documentation which includes a manual of operation, a

manual of spare-parts and a manual of installation

instructions in several languages.

A very enthusiastic human team, technically well prepared

and with ecological awareness, is at the service of our

clients to give them the most adequate answers to their

requirements, taking into account water, energy and

detergent savings, as well as noise and electronic pollution.

Our progress will be sustainable if we collaborate to

protect our environment.

The objective is to clean our clothes without soiling our

Planet.

The GDRIVE, incorporated inthe new GIRBAU HS-4000washer extractors, automatica-lly adjusts to the power supply(voltage and frequency) withinits range. In addition, it cons-tantly filters the power supplyso that short spikes or transientsfrom the mains do not affectthe gentle operation of the ma-chine.

Total motor protectionA closed communication loophas been designed for the HS-4000 series between the micro-processor and the motor. So, theGDRIVE allows the micropro-cessor to inform itself on-lineconcerning the exact and instan-taneous work parameters of themotor. This ensures a total protection

of the same via the automaticvoltage control and protectionagainst: short circuits, earthfault, phase failure etc. TheGDRIVE allows for an exactand precise control of the motoracceleration-deceleration timesand perfect positioning whetherthe machine is loaded with clo-thes or not.Right from the first time the ma-chine is switched on, the controlknows the exact state of the ma-chine and automatically recogni-ses the turning direction of thedrum.

Mechanical components last longerThe life of the mechanical com-ponents installed in the HS-4000series has been significantly in-creased.This is a direct consequence of:

a 40% reduction of the forcesproduced during machine opera-tion thanks to a total control ofthe motor operation, the installa-tion of a single transmission beltthat is completely flat (with au-tomatic aligning and significantlyreduced wear and tear), as wellas a very simple and efficientintroduction of the mechanicalelements doing away with su-pports, tensioners, intermediarypulleys etc.Consequently maintenance isdrastically reduced and simpli-fied.

Low energy consumptionIn the GIRBAU HS-4000 washerextractors the programming op-tions for washing processes havebeen increased. This translatesinto machines that make a very

efficient use of energy that isadjusted according to the amountof clothes loaded in the machine. This machine only uses theenergy necessary at each mo-ment.This new generation of machineshas been possible thanks to theexcellent work carried out byGIRBAU’s R + D engineeringdepartment which consisted ofrigorous and thorough laboratorytrials, simulations of how themachine would behave usingvirtual models and an accuratedesign and documentation pro-cess.The HS-4000 series has produ-ced the fruits of the work by acompetent and experienced te-chnical team and GIRBAU’sexperience in industrial laundryequipment.

GIRBAU S.A. PRESENTS THE NEW SERIES OF SOFT-MOUNT WASHER EXTRACTORS HS-4000 MODELThese incorporate unique advantages unheard of in existing washing machines available on the market

page 3

The new HS-4000 series of washer extractors captures the spiritof a design that is recognised and valued by the market for thefuture. In the HS-4000 series an increased life of the mechanicalcomponents has been achieved along with a reduction and simpli-fication of maintenance tasks.

Just as technology has rapidly advanced the automotive industry with featuressuch as ABS braking, self-adjusting suspension and electronically monitoredride controls to ensure optimum performance, GIRBAU S.A. by improvingthe already recognised and proven reliable Microprocessor Control hasdeveloped the GDRIVE.

GDRIVE by GIRBAU has been designed to provide unique capabilities to theconsumer interested in optimum laundry room performance and productivity. The GDRIVE provides for the new HS-4000 series a number of uniqueadvantages which include:

• Optimum processing according to specific linen type• Up to 6 cylinder rotation speeds with a single motor.• Out-of-balance automated load adjustment• Gradual acceleration and braking• Up to 70% reduction in electrical draw during start-up• Reduction in noise and vibration• Prolonged machine life• Multiple voltage applications• Maintenance free

THE ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT PHILOSOPHYIS THE CONSTANT IMPROVEMENT

Engineeringnews

As Director of the EngineeringDepartment of GIRBAU S.A., Iam glad to introduce this newsection, Engineering News, toyou. The object of this section isto provide our customers with allthe technological information thatconcerns GIRBAU S.A., bearingin mind that our products are themarket leaders world-wide.The philosophy of the technicalteam of GIRBAU S.A. hasalways been, and still is, the cons-tant improvement. Before getting onto a new projectwe first find out the real marketrequirements and also what ourcompetitors do. Our two aims areto amply surpass those marketrequirements and, when possible,do it in the most economical way.

Dep artment StructureThe Engineering Departmentconsists of 25 technicians whoseprofessionalism and humanityclearly show in the end productof GIRBAU S.A.The technicians form two diffe-rent groups, located in the premi-ses at Ctra. de Manlleu (GIRBAU1) and PolÌgono Industrial Ma-lloles (GIRBAU 2).

Mr. Josep Rota is the head of thetechnical department of Girbau1and Mr. Pere Girbau Pousoccupies this position atGIRBAU2. Each of them is di-rector of a team of electrical andmechanical engineers. The Engineering Department ofGIRBAU S.A. also has a generaltesting laboratory and a motorsone in GIRBAU 1 (where all thewashing machines, flatwork iro-ners and ancillary components aretested); a testing lab in GIRBAU2for the batch washers manufac-tured in there; and a departmentfor the management of the te-chnical manuals.

Stages in develop ing a p rojectThe R+D process has completelychanged with the passing of time.At present, GIRBAU S.A. usesthe most innovative technologyto improve, even more if possible, our designs quality. The first step to develop a newproject is carried out by the com-mercial department, which putsforward a proposal to the Pro-duct Committee according to themarket requirements and de-mands.The Product Committee (consis-ting of the president, the indus-trial manager, the commercialmanager and the technical ma-nager) meets and, if it considers

it appropriate, gives its permis-sion on the development of thenew project. The following step is to appointa single person to be responsiblefor the project who will suffer, live and enjoy the project fromthe very moment when the ideais conceived until it has been onthe market for two years. At the same time, the terms andconditions are drawn up with allthe product technical specifica-

tions, which will always complywith the ISO-9001 certificationprocedure. Finally, a schedule is defined andcarried out.

Projects develop ment from thebeginning to todayThe implementation of the newtechnologies has modified theprocedure with which a projectis developed in GIRBAU S.A.Twenty years ago, only a yearwent by from the beginning ofa project design to its distri-bution to the market, but a pe-riod of two years had to passuntil the project was consideredfinal. In the second stage, 15 monthspassed from the design to thedistribution of the product to themarket. The process consisted in basiccalculations, designing, prototypeand a year of sales on the nationalmarket to eventually export it tothe world market. The third stage introduced straingauge and lifetime testing, whichallowed direct exporting to theworld market. This way, the process (18 mon-ths) then consisted of: basiccalculations, design, prototype, strain gauge testing, lifetime testsand direct exporting.

In the present stage, the mostimportant new development isthe introduction of the Finite-Element Method in the productdevelopment process so that thestages are now as follows: design,finite-element method, prototype, strain gauge testing, lifetime testand world market exportation. All this process allows us to sella product whose reliability is onehundred per cent guaranteed.

The future: the soft mount was-hers, the batch washers and theelectronics develop mentThe technical division of GIR-BAU S.A. is continually wor-king to improve the soft mountwashers, a product which has agreat future if you consider itsadvantages (they are free stan-ding and allow high speed ex-tract) compared to the hardmount ones.We continue to work introducingnew benefits to the innovativeand competitive batch washerTBS-50.Electronics is another field wherewe improve every day.The challenge to have all the ma-chines electronic by the year 2000is being achieved. The department effort is rewardedin the way our customers put theirtrust in us.

This is how the indigenousAfricans knew the Falls longbefore David Livingston, theexplorer missionary reported theexistence of the Falls in 1860The Victoria Falls are one of theseven wonders of the World. They are over 1,6 kilometresacross the width and over 122metres high. Between March-May when the Zambesi is in fullflow the spray from the falls isso great that it can be quite easilyseen over 100 kms. away fromthe air. They offer an inescapablecloseness to the natural elements. The towering column of spray, the thunder of the falling water, the terrifying abyss that separatesZimbabwe from Zambia, theforest-lined, placid, tranquillagoons upstream in which hippoand crocodiles lurk. The ZambesiRiver flows into Lake Kariba andthen into Caborra Bassa Damwhich provides electricity to the

area.Touring attractions are growinghere: Rafting the wild rapids, canoeing, Bungi Jumping, helicopter flights over the falls, game safaris.

The Victoria Falls Hotel(pictured beside) built in 1895alongside the railway station isprobably the best reference of theold Victorian style Hotel in thearea. Over the years it has hostedroyalty, presidents, internationalgovernment leaders and of course

many regular tourists. The Hotel is situated in a primelocation overlooking the Fallsbridge and gorge. The Laundry of this Hotel hasbeen recently equipped withGIRBAU washing extractorsmodel HS-3110 and multirollflatwork ironers of huge capacitymodel PS-80.It is important to mention that

the flatwork ironer is fed bythermal oil coming from anelectric boiler. The 354 kW boileris using energy coming from theCaborra Dam.Hwange National Park is locatedsouth of Victoria Falls and ishome to many species of Africanwild-life including the biggestconcentration of elephants in theworld.

Viking laundry equipment has,for 40 years, been associated withquality equipment supplying ori-ginally to the launderette industryin the 1960’s and subsequentlydeveloped the “on-premiseslaundries” to many other sectors. For the past 20 years Viking-Girbau products are to be foundthroughout the UK in hotels, schools, nursing homes, hospi-tals, etc. There are a number of reasonswhy our customers choose to ins-tall in-house systems, cost beingprobably the most important assavings of around 50% can beachieved as well as other spin offbenefits such as quality of finish/controlling turnaround/reducedlosses of items. Overall, we feelthat with correct training of theclient’s staff, the rewards finan-cially a well as convenience makeOPL’s essential in many esta-blishments.Viking-Girbau provides their UKcustomers with solutions to theirlaundering needs. This starts withan initial survey to establish ty-pe/volume of work to be proces-sed, available space and services, etc, written feasibility study in-cluding options of payment/leasewarranties to meet the particularneeds of the customer.Today giving the customer whathe requires has to be priority. Weare confident this is the correctway as 50% of our business co-mes from our existing clients.During February 2000 we exhi-bited at “Hotelympia” in Londonwith a 75m2 stand. All Viking-Girbau equipment isCE approved and we are a BSIquality management registeredcompany to ISO 9002.The Viking-Girbau partnershipgoal over the next few years willbe to substantially increase mar-ket share within the UK fromnew products and increase mar-keting activity.

The growth in tourism in theCaribbean in recent years, along with GIRBAU S.A’swish to offer a service in anypart of the world, readily ex-plain the company’s expansionin this geographical area. One only has to note the growthof Spanish hotel chains whichhave set up in the Caribbean.GIRBAU S.A. maintains exce-

llent relationships with thesehotel chains and therefore, itis not surprising that they turnto GIRBAU when they need ahigh level of service and pro-fessional assistance in whate-ver part of the world.GIRBAU has recently comple-ted the installation of three largelaundries in the Caribbean anda fourth is currently under cons-

truction as the area offers firmprospects for continued growth. The installation of GIRBAUbatch washers in countries suchas the Dominican Republic,Mexico or Cuba result fromthe need of the large hotelchains for: high levels ofoutput, competitive costs, lowlevels of consumption, and ma-chinery that is both easy to useand that requires minimalmaintenance.

Technical service specific to theareaApart from fully meeting theserequirements, GIRBAU offerssupport from within each coun-try.Thus, the Dominican Republichas its own technical service;Mexico can rely on the techni-cal support of Centrax S.A. ofC.V. and Cuba works with theteam from GIRBAU CARIBE.This means that they receive aquick and efficient service andthat there is a permanent su-

pply of spare parts in the area, sometimes in the laundry itself. At GIRBAU we are especiallyproud of the first batch washerto be installed in Cuba, parti-cularly when one bears in mindthat the negotiations neededfor investments of this magni-tude are both long and difficult.Indeed, this investment neededthe back up of a number ofeconomic and technical viabi-lity studies. In the Unicornio laundry, situa-ted in the tourist centre Vara-dero, a TBS-50/12 batch was-her has been installed alongwith four SD-100/V dryers ca-pable of processing 1250 kg/hof clothes. In Cancún, where a TM-55/9batch washer was installed tenyears ago, a new generationmodel TBS-50/11 has nowbeen introduced along withth r ee SD-100 /V d rye r s .In the Dominican Republic wehave installed a TBS-50/10 ba-tch washer with four dryers.

CHANGES TO THE GIRBAU WEBSITE IN ORDER TOSTRENGTHEN THE COMMERCIAL POLICY OF THE GROUPThe objective is to provide an interactive dialogue between the company and Internet users

The President of the company,Pere Girbau, has confirmedthat “the commercial policy ofthe company does not aim tosell equipment through itswebsite, but to ensure that anyperson interested in our pro-ducts can find us easily on theInternet”.Naturally, the final objective isto generate sales, but “we are notaiming to make a firm orderbecause the client has seen anoffer on the Internet, we are justlooking for the initial contact”added Mr. Girbau. In order to facilitate this firstcontact, GIRBAU S.A. occupies

preferential positions in the listsof results offered by the mainInternet search engines when se-lecting determined words relating

to the laundry sector. There arealso banners (advertising on theInternet) on some of the inter-national search engines, offe-ring clients a Free LaundryProject Planning for theirlaundries. The President of the company,Pere Girbau, said that these In-ternet mechanisms were propo-sed because “the problem withthe Internet is that it is a jun-gle. People lose their way onthe Internet and get tired ofsearching. As a result, we haveto provide our clients with themaximum facilities to findwhat they are looking for in away that is quick and agile”.The response to Girbau's com-mercial policy on the Internethas been very positive as evi-denced by the number of visitsto the website, which has risen

steadily.

New GIRBAU S.A. website(www.girbau.com)The GIRBAU S.A. website wasdesigned three years ago. Bearingin mind the speed at which infor-mation technology is advancing,it had become necessary to reno-vate the website. The new web-site has been renovated both interms of content and design. It ishoped that both aspects will havea positive influence on the perso-nalised dialogue made throughthe Internet. This interactive dia-logue may be performed in fourdifferent languages (English, Spa-nish, French and Catalan), in ac-cordance with the language cho-sen by users on the home page.Once the language in question hasbeen chosen, access is providedto six sections that group togetherthe contents under the followingsections: Company profile, Pro-ducts, GIRBAU laundry system,Commercial and Service network,Whats new & Industry links andContact us. Chuck Hansen, a 27-year laundryveteran and owner of nine coinlaundries in Chicago, IL knowsthe importance of serving hiscustomers. “Providing standardlaundry equipment to mycustomers was not going to keepthem coming back. I neededequipment that could provideadded value to their laundering

experience and Continental’shigh-speed, Express washersallowed me to do this. Not onlycould I offer free soap throughthe automatic chemical injectionfeature on the Express washer, but I could also offer quickturnaround while maintainingwash quality.”

“Another importantconsideration, however, was the variety of largefront-loading washer-extractorsavailable to meet the needs ofmy customers. By workingclosely with my Continental

distributor, Dion Marcionetti ofLaundry Concepts, I was able tobuild a store that gave me anedge over the competition.”

“I like Continental products andthe company that stands behindthose products which is why Iwill choose Continental for mynext coin laundry.”

GIRBAU S.A. are very proud ofhaving UNE-EN-ISO-14001certification as we know theenvironmental impact due to ourmanufacturing process is minimaland our efforts to implement theEnvironment ManagementSystem have been acknowledged.

GIRBAU S.A. experience onenvironment protectionGIRBAU S.A. has always had arespectable attitude towards theenvironment. It has not been because of thepreparation for EnvironmentManagement System that thecompany has concern for itsenvironmental impact or for theworking conditions of itsemployees, it has been doing sofor many years. Our files show the measurementsthat have been carried out onemissions into the atmospheresince 1989, controls of theindustrial waste since 1988, alsorecords of the water pollutingparametres in the waste waterthat have been checked since1993 and of all the continualcontrols done in the work placesince 1974 so as to improve thesafety and health conditions forour employees.Consequently, the adoption ofsafety measures to protect theenvironment are not new forGIRBAU S.A. since the productswhich could cause any damageto the ozone layer were replacedlong before the dates given bythe administration (MontrealProtocol). Some chemical products werereplaced by similar ones whichdid not have any of thecomponents which could involvea risk for the health of thoseworking with them. The new roofs for the factoryplants were made with products

which did not contain amianthus, etc. Our next step was to obtain theEnvironment ManagementSystem according to the UNE-EN-ISO-14001.The writing of the Manual, theprocedure that was followed, theidentification and evaluation ofa rate of environmental risk inall the activities of GIRBAU S.A.Together with all the othersdocuments are the tools that weuse to prove to the auditors ourtotal compliance with the newcertification and also to protectto the maximum the environment.

Minimum of residue generationat sourceWe think it is not enough for usto control all the industrial wasteand its elimination, but we haveto work to reduce as much aspossible its generation in the firstplace. The products manufacturedby GIRBAU S.A. do not generatea high level of pollutants (neitherin its manufacturing process norat the end of its working life),this way it is easier to complywith the protection measures.GIRBAU S.A. follows from longago an environmental policy(included in the Manual SGMA)and very important investmentshave been made to protect theenvironment and the employeesfrom the potential occupationalhazards, through informing andt r a i n i n g G I R B A U S . A .employees. We have observed ahigh level of concern andsensibility for the mattersregarding the environment, whichhas facilitated the collaborationand the proposals to improve ourEnvironment ManagementSystem.

Next objective: EMAS validationThe achievement of thecertification UNE-EN-ISO-14001 does not simply mean toattain a goal and once it has beenachieved forget about it .It forces us to continuallyimprove and that’s why GIRBAUS.A. will shortly apply for theEMAS validation (EuropeanRegulations 1836/93) whichguarantees a high level ofprotection for the envrionmentand means that we have to makea public environment declaration.

UNE-EN-ISO 14001CERTIFICATIONThe standard philosophy is tominimise the generation of residues

The EMAS regulations esta-blish that companies in posses-sion of this certification shoulddraw up a report establishingthe guidelines to be followedwith regard to environmentalmatters.GIRBAU S.A., willing to do itsbest to protect the environment, has published this declaration.Among other aspects, the decla-ration considers the environmentpolicy, its management system, its environmental impact (energyconsumption and raw materialsconsumption, waste generationand emissions into the atmosphe-re), as well as the anuual environ-mental plan.

The Environmental ManagementSystemThe Environmental ManagementSystem consists of a committeeformed by the president, the ge-neral manager, the technical di-rector, one environment co-ordinator, the manufacturing di-

rector and the person in chargeof the Environment ManagementSystem documentation.

Objectives in the short termThe declaration includes the fo-llowing objectives in the short

term: the implementation of anenvironment management sys-tem, the total elimination ofharmful or dangerous productsfrom the manufacturing proces, the shortening of the final product

inspection time (saving water andelectricity), the replacement ofthe fuel oil with natural gas andthe complete elimination of in-dustrial waste waters in thetreatment process of surfaces(paint section).

Actions that have been taken todateAlthough obtaining UNE-EN-ISO-14001 is expected in 2000,GIRBAU S.A. has, for a longtime, been carrying out a numberof specific actions to protect theenvironment. In 1999, the change of fuel to beused in the burners at Factory 1was completed (from fuel oil tonatural gas). With this replacement, GIRBAUS.A. went from emitting 1028mg / m3 N of SO2 during 1998to no emissions in 1999.The fuel consumption wentfrom 190 tones in 1997 to 56tonnes in 1999, whereas naturalgas consumption went from 0m3 in 1997 to 205.063 m3 in1999.Contributing to a better world isa worthwhile effort.GIRBAUS.A. is convinced of it.

RE-LOCATION OF 62 TREESThis action shows the concern for the environment protection

G I R B A U P U B L I S H E S I T SENVIRONMENT DECLARATIONThis declaration reflects the environment management systemGirbau has produced a declaration, following the UNE-EN-ISO-14001 and the EMAS procedures, which includes all theenvironmental matters concerning the company.

The building expansion ofGIRBAU S.A. premises in Vicshowed a deep concern for theenvironment on the part of thecompany’s personnel. The building expansion meantthe uprooting of 62 trees belon-ging to the Acer Negundo spe-cies, which had been growingbeside the GIRBAU S. A. fac-tory for 15 years. In view of this possible envi-ronment loss, the managementof Girbau asked for permissionfrom Vic town hall so that theycould transplant the trees. The town hall gave its permis-sion and Girbau employeesproceeded to transplant thetrees. With this action GIRBAU S.A.achieves one of its environ-mental policy objectives. The

re-location of the trees has con-tributed to improve an area inthe city of Vic.The respect to the environmenthas always been of maximum

importance to the company.GIRBAU S. A. makes an effortin protecting the environmentwith all the actions they cando.

THE TECHNOLOGICAL INNOVATIONS FACILITATET H E H O T E L L A U N D R I E S M A N A G E M E N TGIRBAU laundr y sys tem guarantees the maximum resource op t imi sa t ion

The first step every hotel mana-ger had to make when studyinghow to best achieve the perfor-mance of his laundry was tocalculate the quantity of sheets, pillow cases, towels, etc, thathad to be washed daily in thehotel, always bearing in mindthat the textile appearance is avital aspect for any hotel. So far this looked quite simple. The thing that was not so easywas to decide which type ofmachinery was best, the pro-

cess to be followed, the space, work out the energy con-sumption and a lot of otherthings which rendered the ma-nager ' s t ask much morecomplicated, among otherthings, because of his lack ofknowledge of the exact costsof the laundry. The new tendencies in the hotelsector go in that direction. Thisway GIRBAU S.A. offers a de-tailed survey to the hotels ofthe process to be carried out in

the laundry, as well as a detai-led costs study.The aim is to optimise everyoperator's work providing themwith the best process and equi-pment so as to achieve them a x i m u m p r o d u c t i v i t y.The new laundry systems canachieve savings of up to 40%if you compare them to the tra-ditional systems.

GIRBAU l aund r y sys temThe GIRBAU laundry Kit sys-tem establishes model typelaundries designed accordingto the hotel number of bedsand the hotel number of stars. These models are based on adetailed survey of the work

process , cons ider ing theamount of time used for eachtask performed by the operatoror operators and the logicalorder to be followed to achievethe laundry's best efficiency. The workday is analysed minu-te by minute and the time theoperator is going to spend inthe different tasks of loadingand unloading the washing ma-chines and dryers, the classifi-cation and folding of the towellinen as well as the ironing andfolding of the flat linen will bestated.

Another aspect that GIRBAUlaundry system takes into ac-count is the space required tolocate the laundry.

New Systems AdvantagesGirbau laundry system advan-tages are not limited to solvingthe eternal problem of costcontrol and hotel laundries ma-

nagement, but they go far be-yond.They provide the operator withequipment which optimiseshis/her effort and complieswith the International LabourOrganization (ILO) regulatio-ns; they reduce the investmentin linen stock, facilitating itscontrol and preventing losses. They rationalise the processachieving an intelligent asso-ciation between energy sa-vings, water, chemicals andspace. The linen lasts longerand produces a better result.Together with the machinery,a dossier is supplied which in-cludes the description of thework method to be followed,a video explaining the modeof operation and an exhaustivecost study which allows you toestablish the total cost per kiloof linen.

Guarantee, Quality and SafetyCertifiedThe quality and safety of GIR-BAU laundry equipment isguaranteed by means of manycertifications such as: CE,DIN-EN-ISO-9001, GS (Ger-many), ETL (USA) and War-n o c k H e r s e y ( C a n a d a ) .GIRBAU works to achieve themaximum profitability for thehotel laundries. The most innovative technolo-gy, together with the cost stu-dies and the work process, as-sure the owner in the hotelbusiness of his choice of laun-dry as the best one.

This recording startedbefore the ISO-9001 regulationsestablished it, by the depart-ment's own will, which consi-dered interesting to know thetechnical and professional levelof its staff.

Train ing Forecasts 99-00The training actions planned forthe period 99-00 include the fo-llowing subjects: new technolo-gies, languages, adaptation to thenew administrative techniques, cost analysis and reduction, qua-lity and self-control, risk preven-tion, emergency plans, environ-ment, etc.Girbau S.A. training was, is andwill always be a priority.

NEWS UNIVERSIADA’99 IN PALMA MALLORCAWITH THE COLLABORATION OF GIRBAU S.A.In accordance with the policy initiated during the Olimpic

Games in Barcelona in 1992, GIRBAU S.A. has continued

its collaboration in this type of events making the laundry

for the Universiada’99, which was held last July in Palma

Mallorca.

The Universiada is an international sporting event for

university students and is held every two years, on odd

years. Winter and Summer Universiadas are held.

In one of the marquees in the Village (a leisure and service

area for participants of the Universiada), a laundry has been

installed with GIRBAU 40 washing machines and 20 dryers.

Installation of the laundry was made possible thanks to the

collaboration of TILSA, the distributor of GIRBAU S.A. in

Palma Mallorca.

Without doubt, the laundry service was one of the most

requested services owing to the large amount of clothing

used by sportsmen and women throughout the day.

GIRBAU S.A., WITH SPORTS TEAMS MADEUP OF THEIR EMPLOYEES

The company collaborates with different sports teams made

up of GIRBAU S.A. workers.

Consequently, GIRBAU S.A. has collaborated with football,

chess and basketball teams and with teams that are performing

in trials, such as Raid Verde, the Desert Marathon, etc.

A particularly noteworthy event was the victory of the team

made up of Jaume Porta Bagaria (a GIRBAU S.A. employee)

and Santiago Pajerols Font in the Catalan Pyrenees Ski

League 2000.

This competition consists of 10 trials (some of which are

valid for the Spanish Championship) which are performed

in the Pyrenees between the months of January and April.

Participating teams are made up of two members.

The trials are very tough and involve slopes of 2000 metres.

What is more, the trials last one day and demand high

stamina from beginning to end.

Good physical condition, maintaining your stamina from

beginning to end and good mutual understanding with your

partner are vital factors to successfully overcome the trials.
