Comprehension Skill:Story Structure

Attention

n.  Close or careful observing or listening. The tour guide asked the group to give her their full attention.

Awkward

adj.  Uncomfortable. Roger felt awkward when he realized that everyone else had worn nice clothes to the party.

Bragged

v.  To boast. Nella bragged that she was the best basketball player in her class.

Briskly

adv.  Quickly, energetically. The pilot strode briskly through the airport to the plane.

Conversation

n.  A spoken sharing of thoughts between two or more people. Alexa knows so much about sports that our conversations are always interesting.  

Encourage

v.  To give support or confidence. Effective coaches encourage their players during a game.

Managed

v.  To succeed in doing something with difficulty. Rolf managed to finish the race even though he turned his ankle near the end.

Notice

v.  To become aware of. People will notice the colorful balloons tied to the stair railing.
