Mines and Quarries Summary

Structures were made with different materials like clay, reeds, mats, woven lattices (for many different things) and sun-dried mud-brick (for tombs and temples mainly but also for regular buildings) and stone was scarce. Stones and minerals were transported by many places. There were different ways to quarry.

How to Quarry

Way 1Step 1 Cut grooves into rock with either

copper chisel and mallet or a diorite pick.Step 2 Drive wooden wedges into grooves.Step 3 Pour water in grooves to swell the

wood.

Cold water poured on heated rock causes stone to crack.
