The Hunger Games

Page 2: BY: Elijah Hunt & JULIA kALUGAR

The setting starts off in a land called Panem which is a place made from the ruins of North America. District 12 is where 16 year old Katniss lives. District 12 is pretty much the end of the road of Panem. Then when the tributes are picked(Katniss and Peeta), the setting goes into the capitol where the people don’t think about the lives they are putting in danger. The capitol is a place where every thing is colorful. Colorful buildings, colorful hair, colorful makeup, colorful people. In other words there's nothing but a bunch of miss matching people.

District 12

She is a major character. She feeds her family by shooting and killing animals with a bow and arrow. She is the Protagonist. She is very kept to her self, and is very stubborn. Katniss thinks she has feelings for Gale but after she leaves for The Hunger Games she starts to find herself very confused and begins to develop feelings for Peeta.

Prim had just turned twelve years old. She is scared for her life since there is a chance that she will be picked to compete in the hunger games. She is a major character in the story.

He is very good at hunting. And he hunts with Katniss. Katniss and Gale are very close friends. Gale has feelings for Katniss. He takes care of his family (hunts, buys them things, and cooks for them.) He is a minor character.

Peeta is selected to compete in the hunger games. He attended school with Katniss before he was chosen for tribute. He is a bakers son and he helped Katniss when her family was starving and they needed bread. He is from District 12. He is considered to be a major character.

He is an alcoholic. He was in the hunger games many years ago and won. He is now coaching Katniss and Peeta so they’ll have a chance of winning. He is the only person from district 12 that ever won the hunger games. He is a Protagonist.

We thought that the rising action was the reaping. We thought this because that was when Katniss volunteered to take the place of her sister. Many people in district 12 were shocked. Katniss made this decision to save her sister Prim because she knew her she would have no chance of winning the games.

Kattniss’ sister Prim is chosen to compete in The Hunger Games. She feels like she has no other choice but to volunteer so her sister doesn’t die. She is scared and nervous. So is Peeta the other boy chosen from her district. (Man vs. Society)

Katniss is scared because she doesn’t know what her mother and sister will do without her, because she was the only one who knew how to hunt. She tried to teach her sister but she would cry every time she killed an animal. (Man vs. Fate)

The climax of this story is when Katniss and Peeta arrive at the Capitol and the hunger games finally begin. This is the climax because it is the time in the story when things start to get much more complicated and exciting. It is also the time in the story when things become much more intense. Not only for Katniss and Peeta, but also for other characters in the story. The climax doesn’t end until the hunger game’s end. And even after that there are still complications for the main characters as they struggle to get through this all.

The resolution of this story is when Katniss and Peeta both decide to eat the berries. But before they ate the berries, the people running The Hunger Games let them both live because it would look bad if nobody survived, and if there was no winner. The theme of the book has more of a “haves and have not” theme. This is because the setting takes place in a district of poverty and then a place of wealth.
