Clothing of the Middle Ages
Peasant ClothingPeasant men
wore stockings and hoods.
Peasant women wore long gowns and wimples to cover the hair.
CLOTHING FOR PRIESTS AND HOLY ORDERS
Most of the holy orders wore long woolen habits in emulation of Roman clothing. One could tell the order by the color of the habit.
SOME PRIEST CLOTHES AND MATERIALS
Benedictine priests wore black. St. Benedict stated that a monk’s clothes should be plain but comfortable. They were allowed to wear linen coifs to keep their heads warm.
Clothing of the Wealthy
Brighter colors, better materials, and a longer jacket length were usually signs of greater wealth.
Men of the wealthy classes sported hose and a jacket, often with pleating or skirting, or a tunic with a surcoat .
Women wore flowing gowns and elaborate headwear shaped like hearts or butterflies
FUR AND JEWELRYFur was often
used to line the garments of the wealthy. Jewelry was lavish, much of it imported and often used as security against loans.
Hats of the middle agesHats were an
important part of medieval garb.,
hats could vary from linen head warmers, to straw or felt hats, to "borrelais" hats to fine mesh mail coifs, to "sallet" helmets, to "basinets" to crowns.

Ages wore loose wool or linen clothes.
Men would sometimes wear wool tights or leggings.
Knitting hadn’t been invented yet so they had to wear woven clothing.
Clothing for Nuns and Noble womenNuns wore tunics
like other women.Normally they were
black or white. Noble women wore
tall hats with ribbon or streamers coming off of them.
Shoes!!!Men would wear
leather shoes if they could afford them!
In earlier times men wore square toed shoes.
Latter the shoes had pointy toes and some that curved up at the toes in a type of a loop!

Clothing tends to rot when it is buried under ground.
Even when it is not buried it can rip or tare and people used what is ripped for rags.
Jewelry Most Jewelry was
made of gold or glass.
Middle Age Jewelry was big and colorful.
They mostly wore pins and necklaces.
Women clothing!!!Women wore
different kinds of clothing depending on who they were or what they did.
All women wore at least one tunic down to their ankles.
Many women wore a linen under garment, if they could afford it.
