What is Asimo?I am a humanoid robot. My role is to be a multi-functional assistant for humans. My creators hope I can one day become a functional member in society. However, currently I am only used in Japan.

What can Asimo do?

I have two cameras that function as eyes and can also recognize faces. I can converse with humans with my artificial intelligence, speech recognition, and voice synthesizer.

I have many touch sensors and I can adjust my grip strength depending on how soft or hard an object is. I can move autonomously and get out of the way of other humans and objects.

In the future, companies will be able to make robots that look indistinguishable from humans. Is it ethical to allow such robots to exist and keep humans in the dark about whom they are interacting with?

We think it is ok to have robots that look like humans but they need to be aware that they are talking to a robot, not a human. For example, the robot must have a badge or a sign or something on their body that notifies the human that they are interacting with a robot.

What everyday robots do we take for granted?

• Industrial robots are used a lot in auto assembly lines. They help in the process of making many of the everyday products we use in ours lives.

• Combat drones are used as protection for our country.
