Childhood Mary Seacole was born in 1805 in Kingston, Jamaica. Her mother was a nurse and cared for sick soldiers with local medicines and fresh herbs. Her father was a Scottish Soldier.

Her WorkWhen Mary was 12 years old, she helped her Mother nurse sick people. Later on, she opened a Hotel to care for sick people and their families

Her journey to Britain When she was older, she traveled a lot which was unusual for women then. She loved watching boats and wanted to travel to Britain. The Crimean war had began in 1854, she wanted to help the wounded soldiers.

When she met Florence NightingaleMary went to Florence Nightingales hospital but Mary had her own plans.

Her British Hotel Mary Seacole opened a hotel called the BritishHotel. It was 2 miles away from the battle field in Balaclava.

What she cooked and soldMary Seacole cooked Irish stew and rice puddings. She sold soldier things such as tins and saddles boots. She also ran a daily clinic tohelp ill soldiers, she was very kind and the soldiers called her mother Seacole.

How brave Mary was Mary was very brave: she helped wounded soldiers in the battlefield even under the cannon fire.

Her three medals of braveryWhen the Crimean War ended, Mary was giventhree medals of bravery : one from France , onefrom Great Britain and one from Turkey.

Her AutobiographyMary Seacole wrote some books about her lifeand was the best seller then.

Passed away She died in 1881 at the age of 76 and was buried in London.
