In 1518, the first African slaves arrived in the Americas. They came to Hispania from Guinea in West Africa. What began as simply trade in gold, ivory, pepper, and only a few human beings, became a huge trade in human cargo in the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries

SlaverySlavery• In Africa slaves could be bought for £5 and sold in the west Indies for £20.

• Slaves were also shipped over the Atlantic

Slaves can be bought and sold, and are denied all rights, even to have a say about what happens to their children. Some slaves were not happy!!! At the choices they had.

They were like puppets on string being controlled by somebody else.

The abolition of slave trade is about stopping cruelty

•Artists drew cartoons to prove that slavery is bad.

This is an example of a cartoon.

Our summary

•Our group thinks that the British trade and empire was good and bad.

GOOD

We benefited from it by getting luxury goods.

BAD

We were greedy and selfish because we murdered and stole,

precious items.
