Effective corrosion protection and high-quality
plastic and stainless steel components for
spreading discs and delivery chutes are inte-

the mounting frame are painted using a state-

No weather situation or surface to be treated is
the same as another – professional de-icing
thus means individual de-icing. Hence, a tech-
nique with maximum flexibility enabling you to
optimally adapt to the respective situation is in-
dispensable.
The attachments of the Stratos product line

lity: Designed according to the modular princi-
ple, hoppers, auger or conveyor belt systems,

“Standard” distribution system:
Variable spreading patterns by simply
adjusting the chute.
Our tried and tested Standard distribution sy-
stem for brine and salt is available for the small
product line and allows for a spreading width
of 1 – 6 m. Symmetric or asymmetric spreading
patterns can be created by adjusting the chute
(changing the point of impact) – either manually
or electrically via the control panel. A stainless
steel delivery chute with Teflon-coated tail en-
sures smooth material flow.

“Premium” distribution system:
The Premium mixing system is a further deve-
lopment of the Standard version, featuring even
better distribution of the spreading material by
producing a perfectly homogeneous mixture of
salt and brine. The spreading material is con-
ducted to the centre of the spreading disc and
runs through it via the Premium mixing system
until it is discharged.
Symmetrical and asymmetrical spreading pat-
terns are created using the swivelling mecha-
nism of the spreading disc unit – either manually
or electrically via the control panel in the driver’s
cab, where the spreading disc can be continu-
ously monitored. By swivelling the disc, the
size of the spreading surface and thus the ex-
actly defined spreading pattern are maintained.

„PremiumPlus“ distribution system:
Considerable reduction of spreading material consumption through
a highly efficient mixing chamber!
The PremiumPlus distribution system has been designed to meet the hig-
hest demands. The system features a specially designed mixing chamber,
in which salt and brine are perfectly mixed, resulting in spreading material
that is characterised by its very high adhesiveness – the amount of sprea-
ding material can be substantially reduced! Easy on the environment –
but also on your budget.
Symmetrical and asymmetrical spreading patterns are created via the ro-
tary mixing chamber directly via the control panel in the driver’s cab,
where the spreading material can be monitored through working spot-
lights (halogen or LED) and/or an infrared sensor on the spreading disc.
The spreading disc is additionally equipped with a safety sensor and au-
tomatically stops the spreading process upon the smallest changes of
angle: Stationary vehicles with running spreading disc are thus especially
well-protected against third-party access.

Conveyor belt system
The conveyor belt system employs a V-shaped,
fibre-reinforced endless rubber belt. The excep-
tionally sturdy belt runs on a stainless steel
plate at full surface contact and minimum fric-
tion and ensures absolutely even transportation
of the spreading material. This is also facilitated
by pressure distributors, which evenly distribute
the load, helping to relieve the weight of the
spreading material on the belt.
Precise dosage is enabled by the adjustable
belt speed and the tilted flap. The belt is suitable
for transporting any spreading material – even
stones or other large objects cannot block
or damage the system. The feed gate with
integrated lump crusher efficiently breaks
up lumps in the spreading material at
constant pressure, and ensures trouble-free
operation. Chains ensure the controlled deli-
very of spreading material in the chute.

Both the conveyor belt and the auger system are suitable for precise and reliable dosage of
spreading material. Basically, there is no difference in performance; both variants can be
used with any spreading material. It is your individual decision which you prefer in your applications.
The twin auger system is recommended in mountain regions, since it has a particularly low centre
of gravity and offers the possibility of dual chamber operation.

Auger system
The auger system is powered by a hydraulic
motor with gears: The high torque allows for
stable and safe start-up of the system. In order
to achieve a high dosing accuracy, a closed-loop
system with permanent actual/target compari-
son ensures constant and exact speed. An
auger cover fitted as a standard relieves the
weight of the spreading material on the auger.
The specially designed Flex auger with two-
stage pitch is a cold-formed spiral with an open
structure – this allows for particularly effort-
saving conveyance at low breakaway torque.
The variable thread ensures even discharge of
spreading material from the hopper.
Twin auger system
A low centre of gravity is of great importance
for vehicles that are used in mountain regions
– for this reason, our portfolio includes sprea-
ders with a twin auger system. The twin auger
system allows for an extremely flat vehicle
design, which considerably increases the
vehicle’s manoeuvrability and improves driving
dynamics. Another advantage is the opportunity
of dual chamber operation, allowing for two
different spreading materials to be loaded and

The difference between spreading dry and
pre-wetted salt
Salt represents the most important de-icing
material. There are several procedures for its
application, enabling differentiated de-icing operations: In dry
salt spreading, untreated salt is applied to the ground, whe-
reas in pre-wetted salt spreading it is mixed with brine from
appropriate tanks prior to its application. This makes the
salt stick more quickly to the treated surface in addition to
accelerating and extending its effect. Since this technique in-
volves hardly any bounce and scatter, it is very cost-effective
and environmentally friendly.
Another variant is referred to as brine spraying, in which brine
(a solution of salt in water) is applied to the
ground. This procedure is designed for preven-
tive de-icing at temperatures as low as -6 de-
grees, permitting a 20 percent reduction in
salt use.

Pre-wetted salt system
The pre-wetted salt system is tailored to the
hopper capacity of the respective spreader.
The two lateral brine tanks with integrated
baffle plates are made of impact-proof and
cold-resistant PE and are accommodated in
special hopper niches to save space. The
capacity of the tank is designed for an FS30
mixture and the liquid level can be checked
from outside.
The filling and drain connection featuring a
valve/filter combination is easy to access;
a level indicator is integrated. The hydraulically
powered high-performance brine pump (100
l/min) with dry-run protection automatically re-
duces the rotational speed when the pre-wet-
ting setting is switched on. An integrated sen-
sor continuously reports the speed, ensuring
maximum supply accuracy.

Various drive options are offered, depending on the vehicle’s equipment. A commonly used method is to power
the spreader via the already existing vehicle hydraulics. Another alternative is the classic wheel drive, where a
separate wheel running along the ground near the spreading disc provides the power.
“Rotopower”, an innovation by Schmidt, uses the rotational power of the vehicle’s rear axle for powering the
spreader, with very little loss of performance, since it is taken directly off the hub.
Further options are offered by vehicle-independent solutions via engines.

In order to achieve maximum safety/spreading
accuracy and versatility, our customers can use
state of the art control and information systems
ranging from the amount of spreading material
applied to route planning. We integrate all tech-
nical possibilities to make your work easy and
comfortable – the choice is yours.
CX control panel
The CX version is a fully path-dependent
and easy-to-understand control panel that
meets all requirements for accurate spreading
operations. The control panel is equipped
with backlit membrane switches, is waterproof
and extremely robust. The control knobs with
click grids are specially developed for spreading
operations. The CX version is prepared for the
new EN 15430-1 data protocol.
CL control panel
The CL version offers a great variety of control
and upgrade options with ThermoLogic, Auto-
Logic and the Schmidt data management. The
control panel with a large, illuminated graphic
display including a comprehensive menu struc-
ture ensures intuitive handling. This comfortable
version is also equipped with backlit membrane
switches, special control knobs with click grids
and is waterproof. The CL version is also prepa-
red for the new EN 15430-1 data protocol.
Job controller
The job controller – the core component of the
spreader. The easy-to-access computer is loca-
ted in a closed housing under the compartment
hood. CAN Open bus technology is employed
for safe and precise control.
The ThermoLogic dosing system:
Precisely adapt the amount of spreading ma-
terial to the current temperature – and save
money! The lower the temperature drops, the
more salt is required – this is why it is important to adjust the
spreading density to current weather and road conditions.
The sensor continuously measures the tempera-
ture of the road surface and transmits it to the CL
control system. The dosage system responds,
within a split-second, to the temperature fluctua-
tions registered and adjusts the dosage accordin-
gly. The system is suitable for all spreading and
spraying applications (dry salt, pre-wetted salt, spraying liquids, spraying
salt). Since the digital response system adjusts the dosage quickly and
frequently, approx. 15% of spreading material can be saved!

Our new CX/CL Comfort and ComfortPlus
system: The wireless control connection
between driver’s cab and spreader
The new wireless control units without conven-
tional wiring between the driver’s cab and the
spreader ensure easier assembly and disas-
sembly. The operational readiness is increased
and costly repairs – e.g. due to overlooking
wires – are avoided.
The CX/CL Comfort kit
It consists of two wireless modules – one is
located on the spreader and the other in
the driver’s cab. The two modules communi-
cate with each other wirelessly by radio: Once
the two modules are synchronised, they
form a closed unit, thereby preventing crosstalk
between different spreaders.
The CX/CL ComfortPlus kit
can be upgraded with its own power supply
unit to create a completely wireless control
system. The CX/CL ComfortPlus kit is available
for spreaders that are driven by vehicle hydrau-
lics, Rotopower as well as wheel and engine
power. To ensure that the spreader is always
ready for use, a trickle charger can be supplied
as an additional option.
The AutoLogic spreading system:
Ensure safe and precise spreading as well as
unlimited flexibility in assigning personnel.
AutoLogic is an easy-to-use automated
spreading system with programmable routing as part of
the SmartWinterCare Concept – both
the exact route and the precise amount
of applied spreading material can be
saved for future use. Since route
navigation in this system is performed
via GPS and the spreading parameters
are set automatically, the AutoLogic
system enables the driver to always
concentrate on the road – a valuable
contribution to road safety!
To collect the required data on routes
and spreading performance, all relevant
routes only need to be driven once.
At the start of the next spreading ope-
ration, AutoLogic then automatically
selects the proper settings: Dosage,
spreading width, symmetry etc. are
matched exactly to the specific route.
This enables optimal spreading even of
complex routes including roundabouts
and motorway exits. As a result, a lack of route knowledge no
longer poses a problem in your personnel planning – another
indispensable advantage that is sure to pay off for you.

With the help of the SmartWinterCare digital
platform, all your vehicles as well as their
functionality, spreading performance and
routes can be tracked online. The vehicles are
equipped with a GPS tracking system and a
data controller for wireless data transfer to
the WinterCare Datahosting server. All perfor-
mance data is safely and centrally stored under
your account name. Our WinterLogic LIVE web
application provides you with live monitoring of
your winter service operations, enabling you to
check that all routes are protected against (ex-
pected) icing in a timely and sufficient manner.
The comprehensive WinterLogic EXPERT
desktop application stores and organises all
data of every de-icing operation you perform.
This allows for creating reports and statistics,
planning guidelines and efficiency analysis
to use all your winter equipment to its full
potential. Exact measurement of used gritting
and de-icing materials used for stock manage-
ment or environmental credentials is also not a
problem. It is possible to create operational
logs, for example, as evidence in liability claims.
The data collection system also provides
the basis for the billing of internal and external
services and makes it possible to compare
different services.
