Garden MaintenanceIt is the responsibility of every tenant to maintain their garden in a reasonable condition, and to keep the area clean and tidy.

You should keep your boundary fences in good repair, and keep any hedges or trees trimmed. The height of hedges and fences should not exceed 2 metres (6'6") at the rear and 1 metre (3'3") at the front of your home.

BVT staff, sometimes accompanied by tenants, carry out regular inspections across the estate, and you will be contacted if it is felt that your garden is in need of attention. Further action may be taken if your garden in not maintained to an acceptable standard.

You must not erect any sheds, greenhouses, aerials, satellite dishes or advertisements without the prior approval of the Trust. As you may require approvals before reducing or removing any tree please contact your area office for advice before arranging any works.

The Trust accepts that some tenants do not have the equipment to enable them to carry out garden maintenance, and as the purchase of equipment can be expensive we have set up a scheme which allows tenants to borrow garden tools.

The scheme is open to ALL BVT tenants and runs from spring until autumn – however, you will need to prove that you are a tenant by producing a payment card or rent statement.

Further details can be obtained from your area office or from the site offices.

For the Shenley side of the Estate the scheme operates from the Green Meadow Road Garage site, which is located off Green Meadow Road near the MUGA.

And for the Bournville side of the estate it operates from Garage 23 Hay Green Lane, Bournville.

GARDEN ASSISTANCE

Tenants who are genuinely unable to pay for major tree or garden works can apply to the community fund for assistance. Grants for routine garden maintenance such as the cutting of lawns and hedges will not be considered.

Please contact your local area office for more details of this scheme.

Our Community services team may also be able to advise on the availability of other schemes operating locally, such as the Weoley Ward scheme, Timebank and Age Concern.

See overleaf for some useful contact numbers
