BABY KI TTEN

MATERIALS:

Pattons Divine in Soft Earth (this is a kind of multi tan, so I will call it Tan in

instructions below), Sensations Beautiful in Off White

Small amounts of worsted weight yarn in black, pink and rust

Size G crochet hook

Yarn needle and regular sewing needle

Polyfill

Black thread, stiff Off white thread for whiskers

18mm green cat eyes

Pipe cleaner for tail

Stiff brush (like a cat grooming brush) to fluff up yarn when complete, if desired.

HEAD

With Off White Yarn:

Rnd 1: Magic circle 6 stitches (if you don’t know what a magic circle is, there is an

excellent video demonstrating it on Utube: Here is the link: http:/ /ca.youtube.com/

watch?v= WLuSVyKvoUg

Rnd 2: 2 sc in each sc – 12 sc

Rnd 3: * 2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc; rep from * around – 18 sc

Rnd 4: * 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 2 sc; rep from * around – 24 sc

Rnd 5: sc in each sc

Rnd 6: * 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 3 sc; rep from * around – 30 sc

Rnd 7: sc in each sc

Rnd 8: * 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 4 sc; rep from * around – 36 sc

Rnds 9 – 10: sc in each sc

Rnd 11: * sc 2 tog, sc in next 4 sc; rep from * around – 30 sc

Rnd 12: * sc 2 tog, sc in next 3 sc; rep from * around – 24 sc

Rnd 13: * sc 2 tog, sc in next 2 sc; rep from * around – 18 sc

Start to stuff head tightly. You will continue with Rnd 14 after the next steps.

Now you are going to shape the bridge of the nose before finishing and closing head.

Thread yarn needle with Off White yarn and in about the 5th row from the starting

point and about an inch apart, sew back and forth bridge of nose, going narrower and

narrower, pulling slightly to form bridge and ending in a point at beginning point of

head. See my photo on next page.

NOSE

With Rust yarn:

Sew stitches back and forth across the last ½ inch of the bridge of the nose you just

completed.

With Black yarn:

Using my photo as a guide, sew black stitches along side of nose and a little line down

to mouth and then ½” stitches down each side for mouth.

CHEEKS

With Off White Yarn:

Rnd 1: Magic Circle 6

Rnd 2: 2 sc in each sc, end off, leaving tail.

Sew cheeks onto face on the side of nose as shown, placing a tiny bit of stuffing in

each before you finish sewing on.

Using stiff off white thread, sew whiskers on each cheek by inserting needle, pulling

thread through and leaving a 2” piece of thread sticking out. Take a tiny stitch and cut

thread about 2” from tiny stitch. This method will prevent whiskers from being pulled

out. Do this about 5 times on each cheek. After you are done, you may trim the

whiskers shorter and evenly.

EYES

With Black yarn:

Using my photo below as a guide, first determine how large the black around the eyes

should be by temporarily pushing eyes into head, then removing them and sew 2 large

stitches on face for each eye, and hold them in place by sewing an overcast stitch on

each of top

and bottom of each eye.

Page 4: Bvoe - Baby Kitten

Push eyes into face and pull enough stuffing back out of the head to attach the safety

backs onto the eyes if this is for a small child. Replace the stuffing and finish the

head:

Rnd 14: * sc 2 tog, sc in next sc; rep from * around – 12 sc

Rnd 15: * sc 2 tog till closed. End off, weaving in tail.

* Note – I sewed an additional stitch across the top part of each eye, and I used a

little dab of glue to hold it in place.

EARS (Make 2)

With Off White yarn:

Chain 6

Row 1: sc in 5 ch, ch 1, turn

Row 2: sc in next 4 sc, ch 1, turn

Row 3: sc in next 3 sc, ch 1, turn

Row 4: sc in next 2 sc, ch 1, turn

Row 5: sc in next sc, ch 1, turn, end off, weaving in tail.

With Pink yarn:

Page 5: Bvoe - Baby Kitten

Chain 4

Row 1: sc in 3 ch, ch 1, turn

Row 2: sc in next 2 sc, ch 1, turn

Row 3: sc in next sc, ch 1, turn, end off, weaving in tail.

Using Off White thread, sew pink part of ears to white part of ears.

Using Off White yarn, sew each ear onto head about 5/8” above each eye and about 2

¼” apart.

Using Tan yarn, sew 7 large stitches on top of head between ears as shown in my

photo. This adds a little color on the top of the head.

BODY

With Off White yarn:

Rnd 1: Magic circle 6 stitches

Rnd 2: 2 sc in each sc – 12 sc

Rnd 3: * 2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc; rep from * around – 18 sc

Rnd 4: * 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 2 sc; rep from * around – 24 sc

Rnd 5: * 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 3 sc; rep from * around – 30 sc, attach Tan yarn

Rnd 6: * 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 4 sc; rep from * around – 36 sc

Rnds 7 – 13: sc in each sc

Rnd 14: Without cutting the Tan yarn, attach the Off White and sc in next 10 sc,

carrying the Tan behind the stitches. Pick up Tan yarn in 11th sc and continue with Tan

for rest of row, but cut Off White yarn and reattach at beginning of each row.

Rnds 15 - 24: Repeat row 14, but do 1 less sc in the Off White at end of every other

row, so you will end up with 5 Off White and 31 Tan by the end of the 24th row.

From here on continue in Tan yarn

Start to stuff body at this point.

Rnd 25: * sc 2 tog, sc in next 3 sc; repeat from * around – app. 26 sc

* Note – it is not critical that you have the exact number of stitches that I show from

Page 6: Bvoe - Baby Kitten

this point on.

Rnd 26: * sc 2 tog, sc in next 3 sc; repeat from * around – app. 21 sc

Rnd 27: * sc 2 tog, sc in next 2 sc; repeat from * around – app. 15 sc

Finish stuffing before you close.

Rnd 28: * sc 2 tog, sc in next sc; repeat from * around – app. 10 sc

Rnd 29: * sc 2 tog till closed, end off, weaving in tail.

Sew the head onto the body as shown in photo below (the front of the body is the end

with the white circle.) using the Off White yarn and yarn needle.

FEET

With Off White yarn:

Rnd 1: Magic circle 6

Rnd 2: 2 sc in each sc – 12 sc

Rnds 3 – 4: sc in each sc

Rnd 5: sc in next 6 sc, ch 1, turn

Rnds 6 - 8: sc in 2nd sc from hook, sc in next 5 sc, ch 1, turn, end off, weaving in tail

LEGS

With Tan yarn:

Chain 12, join in first ch with sc. Sc in each remaining ch around.

Rnds 2 – 6: sc in each sc, attach Off White

Rnds 7 – 8: sc in each sc, end off, leaving tail.

See my photos below of a leg and a foot. Stuff the leg and lightly stuff the toe of the

foot and sew the white part of the leg onto the opening of the foot.

With black thread, run 4 stitches around the ends of each foot, creating toes.

Using my photos above as a guide, sew each leg onto the body.

Page 7: Bvoe - Baby Kitten

TAIL

Starting with Tan yarn for base of tail:

Ch 6, join in first ch with sc.

Rnd 1: Sc in each ch.

Rnds 2 – 6: sc in each ch – 6 sc

Rnd 7: sc 2 tog, sc in next 4 sc – 5 sc

Rnds 8 – 12: sc in each sc, change to Off White yarn

Rnd 13: sc 2 tog, sc in next 3 sc – 4 sc

Rnds 14 -18: sc in each sc

Rnd 19: sc 2 tog, sc in next 2 sc – end off, weaving in tail.

Insert pipe cleaner in tail, leaving about 1” sticking out Tan end, and insert into body

where shown in my photo, sew in place.

I f you want you can use a stiff brush to fluff up the yarn and make her a little fuzzy as

I did, or you may leave her as is. You are all done. Hope you had fun!
