PROUDLY a 2014 Master Builder Awardwinner in a Best Individual Home category,Cato Constructions, a locally owned and op-erated boutique building business, is movingwith the times.

In keeping with its branding as lifestylebuilders, Cato Constructions has enlisted theuse of social media to help spread the wordabout its passion for custom building of new homes and renovation as well as extensionprojects.

While there’s nothing new about socialmedia, Cato Constructions is leading the wayin the construction industry at promoting and marketing its business.

“You can have hundreds of followers onsocial media, but it doesn’t amount to much ifyou’re not engaging with them,” owner An-drew Cato said.

“We’re proud of our high engagement onFacebook and Instagram and it’s hard to do,but I think we get it right because we don’t putthe hard sell on our followers on a daily basiseven though ultimately it’s a promotionaltool.

“Primarily it’s there as a journal of ourjourney through the work we do.

“We’re a small family business and we in-tend to keep it that way. What we lack in sizewe make up with a passion for building and aquality of workmanship that will impress. We’re definitely about quality not quantity.

“In fact, being small allows for competi-tive pricing, job sites finishing on time andgives our clients direct access to the builder.

“Our carpentry team has been with us foryears, some did their apprenticeships withus. All share the company’s vision that ourclients not only love the finished product butenjoyed the journey along the way.”

So what about the future for Cato Con-structions?

“We’re currently completing a majorrenovation in West End, we have new homeplans in production that will be rolled outlater this year and a new home build cur-rently in the design phase that we’re excitedabout,” Mr Cato said.

“Life’s good, business is good.” Check out Cato Constructions at Face-

If living in a unique nature retreat, hav-ing breakfast with the birds and eveningdrinks with the wallabies is your Mag-netic Island dream lifestyle, you’ll needa new home builder that really under-stands.

Austart Homes Townsville hasachieved an enviable reputation as abuilder of quality homes, especiallywithin the Sanctum Estate in NorthShore.

But after nearly 10 years at the com-pany’s helm, builder John Matthews feltit was time to branch out; adding islandeco-retreats to his portfolio of home de-sign and building.

Because island living requires a dif-ferent style of home, John first experi-mented on his own home, building agorgeous family retreat at the secluded gated estate of Apjohn Street in Horse-shoe Bay, where he now lives.

The project was a year in the plan-ning and took nine months to build, taking into account all the attributes of the natural environment.

“This home was built for TropicalNorth Queensland,’’ he explained.

“The creative design and innovationcombines timber, quality cladding andglass in an elegant, tropical frontagethat’s an eye-catching addition to anyproperty.’’

The home comprises a lavish resort-

style master bedroom and ensuite. Ex-pansive open-plan living areas show-case the meticulous detail and qualityconstruction for which Austart Homes Townsville is renowned.

The separate, private double roomsand bathroom bungalow set off to theside are designed to make guests feel like they’re staying in their own resort, with large floating vanities, open show-er and tranquil scenery.

With design features that you willnot see elsewhere, this home is uniquealready attracting the attention ofneighbouring land owners who havebeen so impressed they booked John and his building and design team fortheir own build.

At last Magnetic Island residentshave access to an experienced builder

that understands the importance of de-signing an eco-friendly home to fit inwith the bush surrounds while sacrific-ing none of the luxury amenities of anew home.

In his second island build, the homewas tailored and designed by the clientfor entertaining and living the indoor-outdoor lifestyle, which is why top pri-ority was given to spacious decks, anoutdoor bathroom and lots of breezy louvres.

At first glance, this home may looklike nothing more than a place to relax, but it is so much more!

The separate media room offers re-laxing movie nights and the customisedkitchen has a servery to the main livingarea, which is stunning with its raisedBalinese-style ceiling.

There’s nothing more you couldpossibly ask for with an island-stylehome such as this one.

With a residence that reinforcesrest, relaxation and a little fun, youwill never need to book a va-cation.

One of the reasons cus-tomers like to choose Au-start Homes Townsville isthat the builders all have atrade background andyears of experience, in-dividually and collec-tively boasting over 45years.

A locally owned andoperated family com-pany, it is renowned for itsprofessionalism, attention

to detail, personalised service and out-standing commitment to achieving thehighest-quality build for your budget.

Being an island resident, John is wellplaced to oversee his team’s execution of every last detail of your dream homecreation.

CONSUMERS now have improved recourse against defective building work with the introduction of new laws.

The laws, which Master Builders lobbiedthe government for in their 2015 Policy and Advocacy Agenda, will hold more licensees accountable for substandard workmanship.

Master Builders have welcomed the move by the Queensland Building and Construction Commission because it will force greater accountability within the building and construction industry and help increase consumer confidence in the construction process.

It now means that projects will be delivered in a fair and efficient manner that protects the interests of all parties within the industry.

The changes are a positive move for theindustry and will come into effect from June 1, when licensees responsible for defective work will be required to rectify it or face disciplinary action.

A direction to rectify defective work willonly be issued if the licensee in question is

unwilling to fix it.These changes could result in

disciplinary action which may lead to suspension or cancellation of their licence.

Where a complaint is made by a consumer or a licensee about defective building work, the commission will assess and deal with the complaint in line with their policy.

And where the licensee agrees to rectifythe defective work, the commission will monitor the case to ensure the defective work is satisfactorily rectified.

We are confident the end result will meanless defects and better outcomes for the consumer in the long-run.

Master Builders are still working with thegovernment to ensure all building professionals are eventually held accountable for their work.
