Replication vs. DuplicationWhen choosing between disc replication and duplication, it’s important to identify the objectives of your project, as well as the differences between the two processes. Duplication is a copying method

where recordable discs are placed inside a CD or DVD writer and the master data is etched into a re-

cordable layer of the disc using a laser. This is the same process used in the disc drive of a home computer.

While duplicated discs are a great way to get a small number of discs in a short amount of time, they are not al-

ways compatible with all CD and DVD players. Replication is the copying method that involves the creation of the disc

itself. Polycarbonate pellets are melted onto a metal stamper containing the master data. Additional reflective and protective

layers are added to ensure that each disc can be played on any CD or DVD player. While replicated discs have a higher minimum to

run and take a few days longer to make, they arrive at a fraction of the cost and with 100% playability.

Plus, 5-color offset printing results in the highest print-ing resolution available on the surface of a disc. For smaller quantities, discs are duplicated using only the highest quality CD-R’s & DVD-Rs made by Taiyo Yuden. Top that with hub-printable hi-resolution print and you’ve got a waterproof, smudgeproof CD or DVD masterpiece.

• All duplication orders are subject to up to 10% under or over-run. Cus-tomers will only be billed for actual quantities shipped. Distributors may indicate “no overage” on their PO. In doing so, distributor accepts the possibility of an under-run of up to 10%.

• We are not responsible for storage of printed materials. Extra printed materials may be returned with ship-ment of product.

Once that proof is approved via email, telephone, or fax, DAY ONE of the turn-time begins. If any graphic does not fit our specs, a representative will contact you with the problem. Turn-times will continue to be suspended until corrected files are resubmitted, which may incur another round of proofing and additional prepara-tions before the turn-time can begin. Please remember that DAY ONE does not begin until the graphic proof is approved! Graphic approv-als received after 5pm EST will begin the next business day.

BuyPrintedDiscs Terms and Conditions Color and Resolution

Your graphics need to be saved in “cmyk” mode. Your images should be 300dpi (dots per inch) in at least the size they are going to be reproduced. Example: If you would like a photo to cover the area of a 4.75” cd-book cover, then the photo must be at least that size at 300dpi. Images can be accepted as low as 225dpi before any pixellation is noticed.The resolution and size you originally scan or photo-graph your image will determine the quality of the final output of your image.Images can always be downsized in Photoshop, but images should never be upsized in Photoshop. When an images is increased from 72dpi to 300dpi in Pho toshop, the quality of the image is not improved. The only noticeable change is the image now has a false reading of 300dpi.Why? When Photoshop adds resolution to an image, it tries to add false information by “guessing” from the pixels that are already there.

We highly suggest you avoid constructing your entire layout in Photoshop. Photoshop is great with images but poor when rendering text smoothly. It is best to do your basic background or layout in Photoshop and then import that im-age into a program more suited for final layout to do your typesetting, such as Quark or InDesign.

CD/DVD FaceDo not include the center knockout in your art-work. Bleeds are not necessary for the CD/DVD face. Please be aware that the CD or DVD face goes through a different printing process, and the colors may differ from the correspond-ing printed material. If you require a physical work sample of your disc, please indicate it on your PO at $125(n) for each round of proofing required.

Supporting ImagesBe sure to include any images you may have used in constructing your design such as photos, logos, or clipart. Photos are accepted in tif, jpg, or eps. Logos should be in an eps format, or they can be in an Adobe Illustrator or Freehand format. Jpg is acceptable for photos, but the image compression must be set very low or the image will lose some of its detail. If you are not sure about your jpg settings, usually the setting that results in a much larger file is the appropriate one.

Correct BleedsBe sure to include at least a 1/8th inch bleed on your artwork. This simply means to extend any backgrounds or images 1/8th inch beyond the boundaries of the cut line. This will insure when you project is cut that no white edges will ap-pear where your artwork touches the edge of the printed piece.

TypeYou should place your type in a margin at least 1/8th inch from the edge of your piece. Be sure to include the fonts that are used in your project. Postscript fonts have 2 files - one printer version and one screen version. True Type and Open Type fonts have only one file.
