In 2000 and Australian Standard (AS4702-2000) was introduced to ensure quality of Polymeric Cable Cover. It includes a very important penetration test. New Zealand has adopted this same standard.

The penetration test consists of a probe (simulating a person with a pick axe) being dropped at 125 joules of energy onto the Cable Cover that is suspended on a polystyrene block. It must not penetrate it by more than 50mm.

It’s not about how thick it is – it’s about how strong it is.Cable Cover gets its strength from the quality of the raw materials. The better the quality, the thinner it can be whilst maintaining strength. To ensure the Cable Cover you’re using complies, ask for it by name: CCASNZ4702.
