Introduction to :
Button switches
Button switches
Push- button switches are types of electrical switching
devices whose sole purpose is to control specific
components of machinery using switch technology.
There are many different types of power switches that
are found in different industries and applications are as
Below:
Push-button switches Momentary push-button
Illuminated push-buttons Snap-action switches
Switches Waterproof switches

lluminated push- buttons are simple switch
mechanism devices used to control some
aspects of machinery, equipment or
processes but with illumination properties.
Illuminated push-switches make them ideal for
use in gadgets that are used in dark or lowly lit
areas.
These types of electrical simple switch
mechanisms are known to popularly use LED
type of light.
The amount and intensity of light in ipush-
buttons can be actively controlled with some
gadgets offering the opportunity of the push-
buttons using their light sensitive properties to
switch off when there is enough light.

They are defines as electrical components that
can break an electric circuit, interrupting the
current or diverting the electric current from
one conductor to another.
Button Switches used in electrical circuits may
be operated manually by human operators,
various moving body objects that open or close
the circuits or some elements that are highly
sensitive to pressure, temperature or flow
found in electric currents.

Emergency stop switches are types of electrical
switches used in industrial and electrical
processes to stop working equipment and
facilities in cases of emergency that may be
inform of potential danger that has been
identified.
Kill switches are common in day to day
operations as they can be found in various
equipment or machinery including:
-vehicles
-elevators
-escalators
-computers
-musical instruments just to mention a few

Momentary push- button switches can be classified under the biased switches category. Momentary push- button switches can be classified into two main types namely: push-to-make and push-to-break switches. Push-to-make electrical switches are types of momentary push- button switches that make contact with the electrical circuit when the button is pressed closing the circuit and break or loose contact with the electrical circuit when the button is released. Push-to-break switches on the other hand do the reverse by breaking any contact with the electrical circuit when the button is pressed and making contact with an electrical circuit immediately the switch button is released.
Snap-action switches
Momentary push- button switches can be
classified under the biased switches category.
Momentary push- button switches can be
classified into two main types namely: push-to-
make and push-to-break switches.
Push-to-make electrical switches are types of
momentary push- button switches that make
contact with the electrical circuit when the button
is pressed closing the circuit and break or loose
contact with the electrical circuit when the button
is released.
Waterproof switches
Waterproof switches are highly specialized types
of electrical safety devices that can break an
electric circuit to interrupt the electric current or
divert the current from one conductor to another
but have high water resistant elements that
make them ideal for use in aquatic
environments.
Waterproof switches are popular to
manufacturers who are designing equipment
and appliances that have a higher probability of
interacting with water or likely to be used in
aquatic or marine based installations to prevent
human operators from electrocution as water is
a good conductor of electricity.
Knobs
The rounded nature of switch knobs make them
ideal, effective and efficient in equipment or
machinery that prefer rotation of switches in
various directions to open or close the electrical
circuits. Switch knobs are located outside
electrical machinery or equipment and are
designed to be rotated in either clockwise or
anti- clockwise directions.
Load-break switches
Medium votage surge arresters are indoor and
outdoor electrical installation geared towards
protecting electric transformers, switch-gears
and transmission lines in electrical based MV
systems that are most likely to experience power
surges.
Medium voltage surge arresters can be
designed for both alternating current or direct
current related equipment and installations. The
over-voltages that medium voltage surge
arresters protect equipment from may be
atmospheric in nature or those brought about
by switching processes in electrical circuits.
Push-button selector switches
Push- button selector switches are electrical
simple switch mechanisms used to control
selective aspects of a machine or selective
elements of an electrical process. These
types of electrical switches can be found in
circuits that entail more than one processes
which are geared towards performing totally
different procedures or accomplishing tasks
unique to them.
