SUMMER ACTIVITES

Each season of the year brings new opportunities to do fun things with your children. During the summertime, remember that there's more to do than simply playing outside

or going to the pool. With some creative thinking, you can make memories with your children that will last a lifetime.

1. Fun With WaterIf you have small children, consider getting a water table. These tables provide toddlers

with opportunities to play with water and toys outside of the tub. Older children may enjoy a run through a sprinkler system to cool off.

2. Lemonade StandSell lemonade or other cool drinks. Get your children into the entrepreneurial spirit and

have fun at the same time. You can work together to build a stand and some signs. Then set up shop somewhere that you can attract some thirsty customers.

3. VolunteerVolunteer your time. Volunteering is an excellent way to provide for your children a true

learning experience while having fun over the summer. Research different programs that allow children to help out in the community. This could set the stage for regular volun-

teer work in the future.

4. Fly KitesBuy a kite at a local store, or make your own if you have the time. Find a safe area to fly kites and teach your children how to get their kites up into the air. Once children learn

how to fly kites themselves, it may become one of their favorite summertime activities.

5. Arts & CraftsMake summer themed arts and crafts. Arts and crafts can bring enjoyment to your kids year round, but you can enjoy the summer season by doing crafts that are centered on the theme of summer. Make decorations or design your own t-shirts. Allow your kids to

think creatively by coming up with their own ideas.

SUMMER ACTIVITES

6. Bike RidesIf everyone has their own bikes, you can go out for a ride as a family. It's a great way

to bond and enjoy the sunshine. If your children are too young, you can take them for a wagon ride.

7. Backyard GamesHead out to the backyard or a local park to play games. You can play traditional sports

or make up your own games to play. Take advantage of the season's warm weather, enjoy each other, and get some exercise at the same time.

8. BeachGo to the beach. Declare today a beach day! Grab your beach toys and bathing suits

and have a good time in the sun. If you don't live by the beach, you can create your own beach day anyway. Spread towels on the ground and enjoy the sun or head to a nearby

river or lake.

9. Nature HikeWhether you're walking through your neighborhood or a local beach, a nature hike can make you more aware of the beauty of your surroundings. Your children might enjoy

creating a collection of things they find in nature, such as rocks and shells.

Keep your kids from getting bored this summer with one or more of these activ-ities. Instead of staying stuck in the house watching TV or playing video games,

bond as a family and create lasting memories together!

AT HOME ACTIVITES

Kids. You love them, but they’ll drive you crazy if you let them. It’s not easy to deal with your children each and every day when you’re used to them being at school for 40 hours

each week. Having them at home is a significant challenge.

1. WriteMost kids love to write stories, make lists, and record ideas. If your child is one of those that likes to write, give them a writing task. Tell them to write a scary story about two friends lost in the woods. Maybe your child is older and would like to keep a journal. Write a story together. Take turns writing a couple of sentences. The next person has to pick up where the last person left off.

2. ArtRegardless of age, there are many people that like to draw, paint, sculpt, color, or cut and

paste. Have an art hour each day. Watch a video on how to draw a face and practice together. Give your child some chalk and tell them to play in the driveway.

3. GardenGardening can be a lot of fun. It’s exciting to plant seeds and watch them grow. Flowers,

vegetables, berries, and herbs are all options. Try planting some foods that your child loves to eat.

4. HikeGet out of the house and hike in the woods. Many parks have walking or hiking trails. It’s

great exercise and an easy way to change the scenery for an hour or two.

5. BakeKids love to bake. Depending on their age, some children need more help than others.Bake a cake. Make some cookies. Allow your child to fix or help with dinner. Try some

new recipes.

AT HOME ACTIVITES

6. RemodelLet your child remodel their room. It might be time for a new color or a new desk. Per-haps the artwork on the walls is getting a little old. A new lamp? Give your child some

freedom to make their own choices.

7. Watch Old MoviesHas your child ever seen Goonies, The Karate Kid, or the original Star Wars? Honey I

Shrunk the Kids? Relive some of your favorite childhood movies with your children. They might laugh at the special effects found in a movie from the 70’s or 80’s, but that’s part of the fun. Talk about some of the differences between these old movies and the ones

they normally see today.

8. Old ToysPogo stick? Hula hoop? Hopscotch? Old board games? Or maybe pull out some of their

old toys from the attic, basement, or garage.

9. BuildBuild a birdhouse, tree house, doghouse, or a fort. Build something out of popsicle

sticks. Construct a raised flower bed. Build some shelves.

I AM A PATIENT PARENT

I am a patient parent.

My kids benefit from my calm demeanor. I manage my emotions. I slow down and take deep breaths. I make rational decisions. I speak softly and firmly. I use discipline as a tool for teaching rather than punishment.

I identify my triggers. I observe my behavior. I recognize the situations where I become frustrated. I figure out the reasons behind my impatience and develop coping strategies.

I plan ahead. I lower the risk for tantrums and acting out. I spend quality time with my children and listen to what they have to say. I create consistent routines and expectations.

I show empathy. I recognize that my child’s behav-ior is a natural part of growing up rather than a deliberate challenge to my authority. I look for ways to make their struggles easier while encourag-ing their independence.

I appreciate curiosity. I enjoy the humor in re-sponding to fifty different questionsabout what trolls eat.

I find role models. I observe other parents and teachers who interact well with children.

I focus on the big picture. My relationship with my children matters more than any passing irritation.

I take care of my own needs too. It is easier for me to be patient when I eat a healthy diet, exercise regularly, and sleep well. I balance spending time with my children and cultivating adult relationships and interests.

Today, I remember that being patient with my-self helps me to be patient with my children. I am happy and composed.

Self-Reflection Questions:

1. How can I train myself to be more patient?

2. How does acknowledging my frustration help me to calm down?

3. What can I do to fix the situation if I find myself losing my patience?

PEACE LIVES WITHIN OUR HOME

Our home is our escape from troubles. Pres-sures from work and drama from our social circles are fully stripped from our minds once we enter our peaceful haven.

Along with my spouse, I am the ruler of this castle! When we walk through the door, the kids tackle us and then smother us with hugs and kisses. Nothing beats this kind of welcome home present!

Our home is our sanctuary. It is an environment free of toxic drama, excessive noise, and re-sentful feelings.

The kids are nice to each other, even when they have trouble seeing eye to eye. We teach them how to handle conflict without violence or rais-ing their voices. Our stress levels remain low, even in disagreements!

Organization is the name of the game in this home. Instead of making cleaning a chore, we turn it into a game for the entire family. The children love cleaning because we make it fun.

One day each week, we have a family cleaning race! Whoever cleans their room first is given a prize. At the end of the race, everyone gets a bowl of ice cream. The person that cleaned the fastest gets a second scoop and a topping!

Our home is a home of peace and quiet enjoy-ment. Our peaceful home is a security blanket for our children and our most prized possession.

Today, I am thankful for my peaceful home. I rejoice in the fact that I have a loving and atten-tive family.

Self-Reflection Questions:

1. What do I love about coming home after a long day at work?

2. Are there any changes that I can make to improve the tranquility in our home?

3. Do our children abide by the rules of our home?

I AM BLESSING TO MY CHILDREN

I am a blessing to my children.

My children are the most important thing to me. Their health, happiness, and future are my main priorities. Most of my time, effort, and energy go toward my children and fulfilling their needs.

I am an excellent parent. I know that I am a blessing to my children.

I take great joy in parenting my children. It is a priv-ilege to teach and raise such wonderful kids. I find parenthood to be exciting, rewarding, and fulfilling. I enjoy the challenge of being a par-ent.

I treat each of my children as an individual. I foster individuality in my household. I am sup-portive of my children’s interests and hobbies.

I encourage my kids to grow into unique and happy people.

My children have all they need. They have the clothing, food, shelter, and love they need to

thrive. I anticipate their needs as well as I can and ensure they are satisfied. We have every-thing a child could need.

My children are happy and content. They know I love and support them. They feel loved and safe. Our home is a safe place that welcomes all children.

Today, I remind myself of how lucky my chil-dren are to have me in their lives. I continue to give my children the best parts of me. I am a blessing to my children.

CHILDREN BRING ME JOY

Children bring me joy.

There is so much to learn from the younger generation. They teach me how to live with a free spirit. They encourage me to smile even through difficulties.

I spend a lot of time with my own kids. Playing games with them gives me a chance to ob-serve their development.

It is a wonder to watch them mature from day to day. Their progress puts a smile on my face. It reassures me that I am on the right track with their upbringing. My time with them is truly a blessing.

I feel like a child again when I hang out with young ones. Their zest for life reminds me to take a break from thinking about my own issues.

When I forget about my work responsibilities, I am able to enjoy life thoroughly. Rolling around in the garden or playing in the pool with kids is a lot of fun. They inspire me to let my hair down and just relax.

Teaching kids is a learning experience for me. I am amazed by their openness and willingness to be honest in their expressions.

I feel a great sense of liberation when I see them being their true selves. It shows me that living freely means being sincere about who I am. Whatever anyone else thinks of me is irrele-vant. I live my life to the fullest.

Today, life is a wonder when I surround myself with the free spirit of children. Their unbridled joy serves as my inspiration to find my own joy in each venture that I undertake.

Self-Reflection Questions:

1. What is my favorite pastime when I’m with my children?

2. What other virtues am I able to learn about through children?

3. How do I feel when I take time away from the hust le and bust le of daily life?
