ARTICULATED ELECTRIC BUSES

VDL Bus & Coach delivered the fully electric arti-culated Citea SLFA-180 Electric bus to Kölner

Verkehrs-Betriebe AG (KVB) based in Cologne, Germany. This is the first of eight buses ordered by KVB. The VDL Citea SLFA Electric is fitted with a fast charge system using a pantograph made by Schunk. The pantograph is positioned on the front carriage above the 2nd axle. Charging is done at both final stops. The charging power is 250 kW and charging time is around 5-10 minutes. The batteries are fully charged at night. The new, special ‘BRT’ design gives the Citea SLFA Electric a futuristic look with the rearward leaning windscreen and the characteri-stic roof and side line. The vehicles are fitted with destination signs integrated into the windscreen, rear window and side windows, extra wide entry door, full LED lighting at the front, sides and rear. KVB is the first operator in Germany to introduce electric mo-bility for an entire bus route. When the new 2016 timetable is introduced, route 33 will be changed from diesel to completely electric. This route, which is about 7 km long and has 13 stops. •

DOUBLE DECKERS FOR MEXICO CITY

A vanza ADO returns to the Scania brand acquiring other buses produced by the Swedish manufacturer.

They are two vehicles of the low-floor Scania Citywide range. The buses are 12 meters long and are fitted with three sliding doors, ramp for wheelchairs integrated into

decks next year for Mexico City’s Line 7. This 15km new route will carry over 100,000 passengers per day, from the end of 2016. The award to ADL follows a successful trial with a demonstrator vehicle in Mexico City during the third

quarter of 2014. This trial demonstrated the technical capability of the Enviro500, the emission reduction per passenger transported, increased seating capacity and high level of passenger comfort. These low-floor vehicles can carry 130 passengers, of which 86 are seated. Passenger flow is optimised on board with a spacious lower saloon for wheel-chairs, buggies or luggage. ADL’s staircase has been engineered for ease of passenger movement to and from the upper saloon. The double deck fleet will have a five year full maintenance agreement, with parts, support, training and diagnostic tools provided by Alexander Dennis Mexico (ADMX). •

based on actual duty cycle and vehicle load. •

ELECTRIC BUSES READY IN 2016

W rightbus has confirmed its development of a new range of electrical buses is at an advanced stage and that seed

vehicles are now in build and will be available for trial early next year. The new offerings comprise a range of modular concepts, which have been designed and developed by the experienced Wrightbus alternative driveline business unit. Wrightbus has a rich heritage in developing cutting edge technology; recent examples of this are the more than 500 New Routemaster hybrid-electric vehicles deployed on the streets of London and the all-electric StreetLites with Induction Power Transfer (IPT) in operation with Arriva (they completed 350,000 miles to date). •

ISUZU WITH ALLISON TRANSMISSION

Italian transport company SUN Spa based in Novara, took delivery of the 500th new fully low floor Sola-

ris Urbino 12 in Italy. The jubilee bus is also the first Solaris Urbino of the new, recently introduced design on the Italian market. The vehicle is powered by a 240 kW DAF/PACCAR MX-11 Euro 6 engine coupled to an automatic ZF 6AP transmission. It is a 38-seater coach bodied on Volvo B8R Euro 6 chassis with stainless steel structure. Fitted with

LED lights inside and outside, the vehicle has the front with Optikool technology and double VG10 colorless windows. These solutions reduce solar radiation inside the vehicle thus sa-ving usury and maintenance of AC unit and the energy consumed since the air conditioning compressor works in less time. The S5 has a modular configuration to meet the increasing demands of customers. •

A fter hosting the 61st edition of the UITP World Congress & Exhibition last June,

Milan focuses back on public transport issues starting a six-day programme of discussions, innovative technology exhibition and techni-cal visits to the Expo railway stations. All the-se events were organized in the framework of the third edition of Move.App Expo 2015 that was held in mid-October at the National Museum of Science and Technology in Milan. The most burning issues concerning the Ita-lian transport policy, namely, funding shor-tfall, waste management and fleet renewal have been already touched upon in the round table opening session. So have been the pro-posals for strategic intervention, deriving from the need for standardizing the financial system in Europe and developing the publi-c-private partnership (Sylvain Haon, UITP). Thus, it is necessary to determine the demand by offering quality ser-vices, alongside with the support of private funding (Andrea Gi-belli, Ferrovie Nor-th Milan), encourage new forms of mobility within the integrated

These vehicles will be split 50-50 between home and export markets and, in addition, we will body around 200 coaches at our Scarborough facility».In Birmingham, in addition to the hybrid double deck bus Enviro400H City that has already secured multi-million orders in London, ADL revealed plans for two new products for export markets. One of them is the 3.9-metre high SuperLo that will be the ADL’s lowest-ever double deck. It will carry 83 passengers and incorporate a lug-

cently announced being the first operator to put into operation the new hybrid Enviro400H City double decks manufactu-red by Alexander Dennis Limited. First 19 buses will go into service on Route 78 of Arriva London network. The London ver-sion of double-deckers has two doors, is 10.4 metres long and is able to carry up to 90 passengers. No-vember is the time frame for the entry into service of the first Enviro400H City. The hybrid double deck version Enviro400 by ADL was presented at 2015 Coach & Bus Live in Birmingham.«The new bus is more fuel efficient, lighter and will generate fewer CO2 emis-sions than any vehicle in its class», said Colin Ro-bertson. «Significantly, our new flagship double

deck takes us towards 900 hybrid buses built by ADL for the UK market, all of which incorporate the BAE Systems HybriDri-ve® propulsion system. Together we have forged a powerful technology al-liance with BAE Systems that is changing the face of public transport and stea-dily introducing greener, cleaner vehicles in towns and cities that are striving to reduce traffic conge-stion and air pollution. The

contribution of low-emis-sion buses should not be under-estimated and, on the wider front, BAE Sy-stems - like ADL - is in the vanguard of that mo-vement globally. The first of our new Enviro400H City buses for London is, in fact, the 5,000th BAE Systems’ HybriDrive se-ries system to go into ser-vice worldwide, which is a remarkable achievement for BAE Systems and their various build partners». •

The initial order is for 250 vehicles with an option for a fol-low-up 150 and ADL is now forging ahead with the establishment of manufacturing fa-cility in Toronto to support their production.Among other large ADL’s orders abroad there are 900 double-deckers to Hong Kong and 120 single and double deck vehicles into Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia). In New Zealand, ADL received new orders for 19 Enviro500 double decks while the Suisse transport company PostAuto ordered 19 Enviro500 double decks fitted with three doors, two internal staircases and complete flat floor. T he production site of the Daimler Buses segment at the very east of Europe has

celebrated the 20th anniversary. It’s the Hoş-dere facility located in the Marmara region, Turkey, on the European side of Istanbul, he-aded by Mercedes-Benz Türk AS, the Turki-sh subsidiary of Mercedes-Benz.The plant in Hoşdere produces annually about 4,500 buses, around a third are registe-red in Turkey and the remaining two-thirds of buses produced here being exported to Europe and to the neighboring Middle East. The production plant on the outskirts of Istanbul is one of the largest facilities specia-lizing in the construction of buses in Europe. The plant produces four different model se-ries, the Travego, Tourismo, Intouro and Co-necto belonging to the Mercedes-Benz. Since recently have been built at Hoşdere the Setra S 415 UL business and S 416 UL business

models from the Setra MultiClass 400.The functioning of the Mercedes-Benz brand in Turkey is still going well over the past twenty years of the plant settled in Hoşdere. It is necessary to go back almost half a cen-tury dating back to December 3, 1966 when Daimler-Benz AG joined forces with two Turkish partners to establish the Otomarsan A.Ş. (Otobüs ve Motorlu Araclar Sanayi), a company owned by Daimler-Benz Ag with an initial 36% share. That operation highlights that the German manufacturer was an early adopter of the concept of globalization, recognizing the opportunities that this brought in terms of production strategy. In Germany of that time, there were still a dozen bus manufacturers. This is further underscored by considerable investment into its Turkish subsidiary: about 885 million Euros invested in the production

T he Hoşdere manufacturing plant covers a total area of

360,000 square metres, with buildings occupying 139,000 square metres. There are about 3,300 highly skilled employees. The factory is a full plant for all steps in bus production and features a body shop, paint shop, assembly lines, finishing assembly till the vehicle ser-vice tests. There is a precise focus on quality that is mani-fested in each step, from the welding performed by two wel-ding robots till inspections and several tests carried out after assembling. Afterwards, each bus is subjected to a 15-minute rain test. Each bus is then dri-ven on the company-own test rack. It simulates extreme twi-sts as well as rough cross ruts and also includes a function test of the anti-locking braking system on an irrigated skid pad. This is followed by a test drive on public roads over a distance of 50 km on a defined route. In addition, one vehicle from each

model series is audited a mon-th. This involves an extremely thorough inspection that takes two whole days. The material procurement and warehousing is of particular importance to the Hoşdere bus plant. The plant handles about 24,000 different pur-chased parts and manufactures another 6,000 different parts in-house.There is a special emphasis placed on training. The com-pany offers more than 40,000 hours of continuing education a year for its employees. It takes care of the personnel offering training in the fit-ness rooms, health care and programs for the employees’ children during the summer and winter breaks. •

of buses in Turkey since the launch in 1967.Mercedes-Benz O 302 historical model was built under license from 1968 on. Just a cou-ple of years later the manufactured buses start being exported.Following an increase in Daimler-Benz AG’s

shareholding to 50.3% in 1989, the Turkish subsidiary changed its name, on 11 Novem-ber 1990, to Mercedes-Benz Türk A.Ş.The Hoşdere bus plant was built in 1994 and was officially opened on June 10, 1995. It featured a covered production area of 30,000

square metres and had an annual production capacity of 2,000 vehicles. The production breakthrough came with the Mercedes-Benz O 350 Tourismo. For the Turkish home market, the model was avai-lable under the O 403 designation. In the 20

years more than 21,000 units of this model series have left the production line.Right from the beginning, the plant also produced the urban bus O 405 in both rigid and arti-culated variants. Then they were added the tou-rism coach Travego, the Intouro

intercity bus and the Conecto for the regu-lar bus services, a model originally intended mainly for Eastern markets. All of these mo-dels also Mercedes-Benz branded.Since 2014, the Setra S 415 UL business and S 416 UL business of the MultiClass 400 range have been added. Manufacturing activity in the Hoşdere has steadily grown over time as well as inve-stment into the structure and nowadays the facility is a highly significant player in Da-imler Buses’ coordinated European produc-tion system.Dr Holger Steindorf, Head of Production at Daimler Buses, witnessed the beginnings of MB Türk and the opening of the Hoşdere facility himself, and says today: “I am de-lighted to see the positive progress that has been made at Hoşdere. The employees in all areas here are professionally extremely com-petent, deliver a high standard of quality, are clearly extremely committed and continue to make the success of our bus manufacturing facility their focus“.Today, Daimler AG holds a 67% interest in Mercedes-Benz Türk. The decision to invest in the Hoşdere bus plant has resulted in more than 75,000 buses produced in these two de-cades, vehicles exported to over 70 countries worldwide. •

B ridgestone launches the new Bandag AP U-001, retread

for all positions. Designed for city buses and vehicles for wa-ste collection, Bandag U AP-001 provides a long mileage which allows savings operatio-nal cost and tire replacement. Remarkable are the perfor-mance in terms of durability, security in all seasons (M + S) and resistance to irregular wear. Bandag U-AP 001 also has an excellent ability to wet traction and during the who-le winter season, thanks to the marking M + S and reduces the possibility of retention of the metalling in the grooves of the tread minimizing wear and the possibility of cutting thus prolonging the tire’s life. The Bandag retreaded tires U-AP 001 are suitable to prolong the useful life of the corresponding Bridgestone U-AP 001, but can they also be used for the reconstruction of other patterns in sizes 245 / 70R19.5, 265 / 70R19.5, 305 / 70R19.5, 11R22.5, 12R22.5, 295 / 80R22.5, 275 / 70R22.5 and 305 / 70R22.5. •

BANDAG RETREADSNO DRINKING AND DRIVINGDräger, an official sup-

plier of breath alcohol controlled interlocks to the Italian police forces, has launched an awareness campaign on the use of detection devices of BAC (blood-alcohol concentra-tion) that block the engi-ne start if the driver has exceeded a certain limit value (determined by the employer). This initiative aimed at preventing road accidents is especially important in Italy, where there is also a law introducing the manda-tory fitting of these devi-ces, at least for the catego-ries of greater concern such as lorry drivers and bus drivers.Herewith we remind you that in Fin-land, all buses carrying children are obliged to be equipped with an al-cohol-interlock and in France, star-ting from September 30, 2015, all buses must have an interlock instal-led. Moreover, in many European countries (such as Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Netherlands, Germany, France ...) the Dräger interlock de-vices have been already installed in buses.Dräger subsequently identified as its partner Bus Company, one of the main passenger transport in Pied-mont, Italy. They closed a deal for the operation where there are two route buses and eight touring coaches fit-ted with the “Dräger Interlock 7000”. The buses are coated with window stickers with the claim “Our drivers do not puff ... blow!”«We believe that investing in safety provides added value», said Enri-co Galleano, Director of Bus Com-pany. «We are a company aiming at

innovation and tech-nology employment. Dräger meets this requirement, perfec-tly fitting into the philosophy of our journey».But what kind of devi-ce is it and how does it work? The Interlock 7000 consists of two components: handset where the bre-ath sample is analysed and control unit that releases or blocks the en-gine start and data storage. Once the vehicle’s ignition is switched on, the Interlock 7000 requests a breath sam-ple from the driver. Only in case the driver is not under the influence of

alcohol, the display signals “Test is ok” and you can start driving. If the device detects an alcohol value above the set limit value, the display shows “Test is not OK” and it prevents the engine from being started. In this case there may be several reasons. If the test fails after having mistaken-ly blown, the driver can try an infinite number of times without any negative conse-quences.

If the test fails be-cause the driver has exceeded the

set limit value, it gets blocked. The

blocking time is preset by the tran-

sport or bus com-pany. Generally it

takes 15-30 minutes. It can also happen that

the test fails because the Interlock distingui-

shes breath alcohol from mouth, that means that a driver is not under in-

fluence but has just taken a small amount of alcohol

such as mouthwash contai-ning alcohol or food, or just

sipped wine or beer. In this case the blocking time will

be reduced to 30-60 seconds.«Founded over 125 years

ago, the German multinational Dräger has always been a leader in the field of respiration and security», said Massimiliano Tarallo, CEO of Dräger Italy. «Thanks to the availa-ble technologies so we are capable of bringing our contribution to a more secure traffic on the roads of Europe and now also of Italy». •

cond most important international commercial vehicle fair, after IAA Commercial Vehicles in Hanover. “Despite the currently difficult market situation in Russia, the international exhibitors showed a particularly strong presence. “In the me-dium term, the Western European as well as the Asian commercial vehicle manufacturers and suppliers are continuing to see a great potential for their products in Eastern Euro-

tion halls on the outskirts of Moscow. This is less than in the record year of 2013 but the director of ITEMF Expo, Sergey Rybchak organizer of the fair was still pleased with the results: “Despite the current significant de-preciation of the commercial vehicle market in Russia, there was a lot of interest on the part of the trade fair visitors. This, together with the numerous premieres and newcomers, proves that Comtrans continues to be the se-

pe, and they emphasize this with their parti-cipation in Comtrans”, said Peter Bergleiter, Managing Director of IMAG (Internationaler Messe und Ausstellungsdienst GmbH), the international partner of the trade fair orga-nizer ITEMF Expo. The subsidiary of Messe München has nearly 70 years of experience in organizing international trade fairs, and it already participated for the fourth time in or-ganizing Comtrans.

In addition to the truck and van manufactu-rers, numerous bus manufacturers also took advantage of Comtrans 2015 for the presen-tation of their new models and their current model ranges. Primarily, the home brands scored points with innovations. For example, Volgabus unveiled its new model 528 512 CNG Serpentine, a gas-powered bus which was primarily designed for regional intercity traffic. The CNG drive with gas tanks on the front roof are intended to allow for a range of up to 500 kilometres, thereby reducing fuel costs annually by the equivalent of more than 10,000 euros. On its turn, GAZ presented three new bus models. Besides the minibus Vector Next based on the commercial transport Gazelle Next, there was a new city traffic midibus on an Isuzu chassis called Vector-3, along with the new, 9.50-metre low-floor bus Liaz-4292 powered by an Euro 5 engine. The electric minibus Kamaz-2257E is also brand new. It is only 5.90 metres long and carry up to 22 passengers. The low-floor bus is fitted with an all-electric drive system powered by batteries that provide a range of 65 kilometres plus the quick charging stations at the final stops. On show also the 11.8-metre urban low-entry Kamaz NEFAZ-5299 powe-red by natural gas engine.Scania celebrated its Russian premiere of the

Scania Touring. The three-axle coach manufactured in China by Higer is powered by a 440-hor-sepower Euro 5 engine and is equipped with a kitchen, toilet and reclining Kiel seats. Many other manufacturers, including Setra and MAN (with the new Lion’s Intercity) from Germany, MAZ from Belarus with the low entry bus powered by na-tural gas 103965 engine, Gol-den Dragon from China with its touring coach XML6139JR and Isuzu with its Citibus, they all enriched the range of buses displayed at Comtrans 2015.The next edition of Comtrans will be held at the Crocus Expo Center in Moscow in September 2017. •

ON THE STAGEOF LYONThe national public transport meeting (RNTP) which took place in Lyon, France, from September 30 to October 2 was focused on electric buses

Lyon hosted the 25th edition of the RNTP (Rencontres Nationales du Transport Pu-

blic), French public transport meeting from September 30 to October 2.On this occasion Iveco Bus decided to an-nounce the upcoming release of its first elec-tric bus. Heuliez Bus, a company of Iveco Group, took up the challenge being respon-sible for this project under the supervision of Pierre Lahutte, Iveco Brand President, member of Executive Group Council at CNH Industrial.Still under development, it’s the new full elec-

tric bus GX 337 Elec. It is the response of the Italian industrial group to the RATP Group, Paris public transport company that decided on buying ‘clean’ buses instead of diesel ones under its “Bus 2025” plan. The GX 337 Elec will be tested by the RATP Group while Heuliez Bus will be the fifth

company to participate in testing with Yutong, Solaris, Irizar and Bolloré.The official presentation of the GX 337 Elec is scheduled for November at the 2015 Pa-ris Climate Conference (Cop21) to be held in the French capital from November 30 to December 11.

A full range of electric buses will be then lau-nched and Iveco Bus could offer some models similar to the Urbanway range. The 12-metre GX 337 Elec with a capacity of 90 passengers apparently resembles the GX 337 hybrid because it derived much of its architecture with the exception of its 100% electric drive. There is a complete equipment from BAE Systems with a 120 kW electric motor and lithium-ion batteries at the top and rear parts of the vehicle granting a total of 200 kW, enough to cover a distance from 120 to 150 kilometres. For the moment, RATP de-

(DCG) and has an increased range of 320 km (without air conditioning running). This is possible because of it’s 295 kW power co-ming out from 16 lithium batteries and even-though the total weight of the bus is 19,7 tons. “The E12 passed many tests,” said the DCG, “which makes the RATP Group confident of our product.”DCG will also be able to install some other battery type following an agreement with the French company Forsee Power.

nied the pantograph charging as a complica-ted solution for a big city such as Paris and thus prefers the overnight charging. The Yutong E12 was another main protago-nist of the event in Lyon. The 12-metre E12 capable of carrying up to 91 people was pre-sented for the first time in France and so it’s a preview compared to its official launch at Busworld in Kortrijk. The E12 that resem-bles a standard European bus is imported in France from Alsatian Dietrich Carebus Group

If Mercedes showed off the new Citaro powe-red by gas engine (world premiere at Buswor-ld), Iveco bus presented the innovative Cre-alis fitted with a Cursor 8 Euro 6 gas engine delivering 330 hp. This is an 18.39-metre BRT articulated version dessigned for the city of Le Mans, offering 38 seats and 86 standi-ng places (84 taking into account a passenger using a wheelchair).Iveco also handed over the first Urbanway hybrid bus to the public transport company

of Grenoble which placed an order for total 54 units. Finally Lyon has seen many minibuses in-cluding a beautiful model for Rome at the stand of VehIxel. The Cytios 4 RLF (part of a batch of 30 units), has a new design and a special equipment for the Italian capital. The Cytios 4 RLF has a low-floor back entrance and is fitted with two double doors. It has a length of 8 metres and 14 seats (including the driver), 22 standing places and a wheel-chair area.Tinted glass and flowing lines characterize the body while the interior reproduces the colors of Rome’s public transport. A lot of work has been done in the driving cabin for improved visibility and functionality. •

THE 23rd edition of the Kortrijk Busworld will go down in history as the best performance in 44 years of existence of the most impor-

tant European biennial event, which brings together the best of international bus production. The number of visitors reached the record figure of 34,932 (+ 19%), coming from 118 countries. The number of exhibitors reached the record figure of 411 companies from 36 countries.During this edition the bus manufacturers have responded massively to the increasing trend of alternative drive vehicles, from natural gas supply to hybrid and all-electric ones. A countless number of offers concerning the latters could cover all the bus types: from minibuses to articulated buses and double decks. But also new offers for touring coaches for both the high decker and double decks. To cut it short, once again manufacturers kept nothing for themselves, showing everything and more, and as always there were many of them awarded in the different separate sessions of the European Coach and Bus Week (ECW). Among them, for example, the Setra S 516 HDH won the “Coach Grand Award 2015”, the Van Hool EX17H invited on stage for the label Ecology, the Volvo 9900 awarded for Security and the Man Lion’s Coach for Comfort. Between city buses the Isuzu Citiport was awarded for Comfort and the electric by BYD and Ebusco for Environmental friendliness. •

MAN TRUCK & BUSS ix months after the preview at the MAN

BusDays in Ankara, the MAN Lion’s In-tercity aimed at interregional long-distance services (also school buses), was officially presented to the international markets. The vehicle sets standards with low life-cycle costs. MAN is showcasing the vehicle in the 12-metre and 13-metre long versions, powered in both cases by the 290-hp D0836 engine mated to the ZF EcoLife automatic transmission.About the urban Lion’s City buses on show, it’s worth to point out the recent optimization of consumption (even with the introduction of the Start & Stop automatic function), the increase in the number of transported passen-

gers, the improved door robustness and the new Isri NTS2 seat. In terms of alternative drives, in addition to the current proposals of biodiesel, gas, biogas and hybrid engines, MAN announced for 2017 the development of 100% electrically-powered bus.For MAN and NEOPLAN regular service buses and tourism coaches, were presented in Kortrijk special versions made at the Plauen Bus Modification Centre (BMC). Since a few months, they try to satisfy the special reque-sts of customers searching for ambitious so-lutions to meet the individual requirements. An example is the lounge on the Neoplan cityliner also fitted with special lighting and sound system or the Neoplan Skyliner double deck coach titted with 18 Exlusive Plus se-ats at the lower deck, height adjustable tables and a large fully equipped kitchen. •

VOLVOL ast June at the UITP in Milan Volvo

presented one of its ‘concept electric buses’, which operated in Gothenburg. At Kortijk Busworld the Swedish manufacturer put on show the 7900 Electric in the com-mercial configuration ready for the market. It is to be added to the 7900 Hybrid (also articulated) and 7900 Hybrid Electric, com-pleting the Volvo electric bus range. The 12-meter 7900 Electric buses uses 80% less energy compared to a diesel bus. It is p o w e r e d by the 160-kW electric engine and lithium-ion batteries of 600 volts with total capacity of 76 kWh. B a t t e r i e s can be re-charged at the terminal stops in 3-6

minutes (operating range of 10 km). The 7900 Electric can carry up to 85 passengers.Another innovation was the Volvo Dynamic Steering (VDS). It is a steering system alre-ady in use for two years on the Volvo trucks and now integrated into the Volvo 9500, 9700 and 9900. The VDS improves direc-tional stability, comfort and safety. The Volvo system has an electrically ope-rated motor, attached to the steering shaft. Working in tandem with the hydraulic power steering, the electric motor is modulated by the electronic control unit. Compensating automatically for uneven road surfaces, VDS eliminates vibrations and steering kick.

In addition, when driving at low speeds, steering wheel inertia is redu-ced by around 75 per cent, which also makes rever-sing much ea-sier. •

T he look and the structural benefits (li-ghtness, rigidness and corrosive highly

resistant materials) that characterize the new Urbino measuring 12 and 18 metres launched the last year are progressively applied to the entire Solaris range. The new versions of Urbino 12 Electric and intercity Urbino 12 LE were on show at the Busworld. The 12-metre Urbino electric is fitted with the electric drive axle with axle-mounted electric motors, 125 kW maximum power each and battery packs of 40 kWh each lo-cated at the rear of the vehicle (4 packs),

while the rest is mounted on the roof (two packs), over the first axle. This solution ensures proper load distribution on axles. The Urbino 12 electric is also fitted with an innovative pantograph charging system (400 kW) which allows a quick recharge of the batteries on route. There is a traditional plug-in connection and many more confi-gurations in that regard. The new Urbino LE has also got further changes made, such as implementation of the screw-fastened side panels which ena-ble fast and easy replacement and moving of the tanks to the front part of the vehicle

to improve axle loads. In addition, the en-gine compartment is designed to accommo-date the engines of different size such as the 6.7-litre Cummins ISB6.7 or the 10.8 litre DAF / Paccar MX 11.Solaris also presented a ‘Concept Midi-bus’, based on the DAF LF truck chassis with the four-cylinder 4.5 litre Paccard PX-5 engine delivering from 152 to 213 hp. The bus is 8.2 metre long (the 9.6 me-tre long version is also expected) and can carry up to 31 passengers. The new Urbino CNG and the new Trollino are to be launched bythe end of 2016. •

It is the 10.2-metre version for 81 passengers (54 seats) driven by two 150 kW electric motors in wheel hubs, either powered by 345 kWh batteries with a range of 240 km (300 km according to the Sort cycle). In its turn, the articulated version can carry up to 150 pas-

sengers. It is powered by the same two engines but is fitted with the 270 kWh batteries rechar-geable by plug-ins or pantograph. The range is 170 km (220 according to the Sort cycle).Outside there was the third BYD innovation. It is the full electric 8.8-metre midibus car-rying up to 49 passengers. It’s equipped with two motors of 90 kW each and batteries of 162 kWh.Always in the outer area there was also one of the 35 electric buses measuring 12 metres put in service at the airport of Amsterdam. •
