BY THE NUMBERS
DID YOU KNOW?Montana is one of a handful of states to offer a tax credit of up to $10,000 for individuals and businesses that donate to qualified charitable endowments.
S P O T L I G H T O N I N S P I R I N G P H I L A N T H R O P Y:
MISSOULA GIVESINSPIRING PHILANTHROPY• We launched the Giving Coach, a free service that helps
Missoulians benefit local causes through anonymous giving and estate planning while saving on their taxes.
• We introduced a segment to our e-newsletter called Philanthropy Tools, which explains charitable practices that donors can use to make informed giving decisions.
• We awarded four college scholarships to students from Big Sky, Frenchtown, Sentinel, and Willard high schools who displayed a commitment to civic engagement and a desire to give back to Montana.
We were thrilled to award a 2017 grant to Freedom on the Inside (FOTI), a new partnership with the Learning Center at Red Willow that provides weekly yoga classes to inmates in the Missoula County Jail. The goal of the program is to use yoga as a complement to other rehabilitative programs to teach self-regulating tools and empower inmates to rebuild their lives. Our small grant paid for trauma-informed training for FOTI’s 15 yoga instructors. The investment laid a foundation for FOTI to begin teaching classes with the Missoula County Youth Courts and the Juvenile Detention Center. In 2017, more than 100 inmates participated in Freedom on the Inside, totaling more than 1,500 class visits. We are proud to support such an innovative and critical community resource.
STRENGTHENING NONPROFITS • We provided technical assistance and funding to Watershed Education Network,
Jeannette Rankin Peace Center, and Women’s Opportunity & Resource Develop-ment, Inc. as part of our capacity building grantmaking program, Missoula Project for Nonprofit Excellence.
• We sponsor innovative projects that meet com-munity needs. One such project, Climate Smart Missoula, drew national attention for their program to provide HEPA filters to the elderly, infirm, and youth during the 2017 historic wildfire season.
• We awarded small grants to 30 local nonprofits and projects totaling $16,448.
DID YOU KNOW?We’ve distributed more than $1.3 million to nonprofits and students since 2001.

We changed the name in 2017 but Missoula County’s largest fundraiser still had the same goals: to support the nonprofits that serve our community and to inspire every Missoulian to be a philanthropist.
