Training Program Overview The Certification and Field Trainer training program has been developed by LegalShield to leverage the skills and knowledge of experienced producers to train and develop more producers. Certification and Field Trainers accomplish this by sharing their knowledge and expertise in training classes and through in the field training. Employee Benefits Certification Training (EBCT) Employee Benefits Certification Training is designed to prepare associates to market LegalShield’s legal and identity theft services as an employee benefit. This training is required in order to sell to groups. Course hours may vary from 8-12 hours depending on the current certification curriculum. Online supplemental training is posted in the Learning Management System (LMS) and is highly encouraged for optimization of the training. This training is conducted by State and Market Trainers.

Commercial Drivers Legal Plan Training (CDLP) Commercial Drivers Legal Plan training is a five-hour certification training designed to prepare associates to market the Commercial Drivers Legal Plan. This training is required for an associate to sell a Commercial Drivers Legal Plan - individually or as an employee benefit. Please note the requirements of the Employee Benefits Certification training also apply to selling CDLP to groups. This training is conducted by CDLP Trainers. Field Training The Field Training program has been developed by LegalShield in an effort to leverage the skills of experienced producers to support associates in local markets and further develop their sales skills. Field trainers offer their experience and expertise in opening new groups and small business accounts as well as servicing existing groups and small business accounts. Field Training is conducted by all trainers- Market, State, CDLP and Field Trainers. Note: Any associate can field train other associates. Trainer Disciplinary Actions Trainer Infraction System LegalShield expects trainers to maintain professionalism and adhere to all terms of the Trainer contract as well as all policies and guidelines. In the event a trainer does not adhere to terms or does not comply with policies, the trainer may receive an infraction.

Trainer Infractions System Breakdown

Page 12: Business Solutions Trainer Guide 2018 Solutions Trainer Guide...2. MGM or Field Leadership emails recommendation to trainersupport@legalshieldcorp.com for review or the Associate submits

BUSINESS SOLUTIONS TRAINER GUIDE 01.18.18 12

The degree of violation depends upon the type of infraction that occurs. Infractions with a Level 2 or 3 first occurrence will be limited to the maximum number of occurrences listed for that specific infraction. For example, a trainer with two infractions received for altering corporate materials within the same 12-month span will face removal of Trainer status and/or possible termination. A trainer with one infraction received for altering corporate materials within the same 12-month span of receiving an infraction for failing to meet production quotas would receive a formal warning and/or be placed on probation. Trainers incurring 3 or more infractions within a 12-month period could be removed from their Trainer positions at the time of the 3rd infraction.

Trainer Complaints Complaints filed on a Trainer should are sent in writing to Trainer Support. Once the written complaint has been received it will be reviewed. The outcome of the complaint will be determined by Corporate based on the Infraction System, if an infraction has occurred. The most common complaints are misrepresentation, miscommunication, favoritism, unprofessional behavior and unethical business practices. Trainer Termination LegalShield reserves the right to remove a Trainer without notice. Violation of the Trainer Contract, training guidelines and polices & procedures will result in corrective action including but not limited to probation, removal of trainer status and termination as outlined in the Trainer Infraction System. All provisions and requirements are subject to change without notice.

Course Administration and Facilitation Set Up a Training Class Setting up a class properly is essential for the trainer and Corporate Office to promote and prepare for an upcoming class. Please follow the steps: 1. Select a Date: Review the local calendar and/or speak with Field

Leaders prior to setting a date or location. Note: A training will not be approved if the date occurs when month end falls on a weekend, Monday or Tuesday.

2. Select a Location: It is recommended that a training course be held in a private location, preferably not in a restaurant, and has classroom style seating.

3. Set Class Time: Trainers are responsible for ensuring the content/material provided by the Corporate Office is presented in its entirety. The minimum class time requirements are defined below and any changes to these minimums must be pre-approved by the Corporate Office:

a. EBCT: 1 day, 8 hours or 2 days, 12 hours, excluding break and lunch.

b. CDLP: 1 day, 5 hours, excluding lunch and breaks. 4. Submit Class for Approval 20 Days in Advance: All training requests

should be submitted at least 20 days in advance of the class but no more than 90 days prior. Once a class request has been submitted, it will go into pending status until it is approved by the Corporate Office. Errors and omissions will delay the approval process. While in pending status, the training will not be open for registration and cannot be promoted. All classes, up to three months in advance, will be approved/denied within 1 business day, unless the class requires additional research.

5. Certification Trainers should email his/her recommendation for the Assigned Field Trainer within 48 hours of receiving the course approval email. Final approval for the Field Trainer is determined by Corporate but Corporate will attempt to accommodate requests when possible. After the Assigned Field Trainer has been designated by Trainer Support, the Certification Trainer and the Field Trainer will be notified, and the Field Trainer will be added to the training roster. At this time, the Field Trainer should submit GWC locations and dates to the Certification trainer for inclusion in the class presentation.

Set Up a Flat Rate Training Class Flat Rate trainings are designed to assist Certification Trainers in smaller markets where covering the cost of the training venue can be challenging. Flat Rate compensation is $1,000 for a 12-hour, 2-day course and $500 for an 8-hour, 1 day course. Compensation is subject to change during promotional events. To set up flat rate training, follow these steps:

Page 14: Business Solutions Trainer Guide 2018 Solutions Trainer Guide...2. MGM or Field Leadership emails recommendation to trainersupport@legalshieldcorp.com for review or the Associate submits

BUSINESS SOLUTIONS TRAINER GUIDE 01.18.18 14

1. Submit Request. Trainers must request the Flat Rate training via email to Trainer Support prior to creating a class request in the LMS.

2. Wait for Approval. The Flat Rate training must be approved by the Senior VP of Business Solutions Field Sales and/or the Market General Manager (if applicable).

3. After Receiving Approval:

o Submit the venue contract, cost, and location to Trainer Support for approval. LegalShield will cover the cost of the venue for Flat Rate trainings.

o Follow same steps as listed above for setting up the class.

4. Thursday Prior to Class. There must be 5 or more pre-Registered associates the Thursday before the training takes place or the training will be canceled and the Trainer will not be compensated. If the trainer anticipates less than 5 attendees, the trainer should contact Trainer Support for guidance or an exception. In smaller markets with a reasonable venue cost, a minimum of 3 will be required.

Assigned Field Trainers for Certification Trainings All corporate approved Field Trainers (unless otherwise specified) will be added into a Field Trainer rotation. One Field Trainer will be assigned to a class for every 10 First-Time attendees. The class assigned Field Trainer will be required to commit to conducting 2 Go Walk your Community (GWC) activities within 30 days following a training class as well as attend all hours of the assigned certification training class. The Corporate Office will promote Field Trainers based on their home state/province and by specialty. Field Trainers are encouraged to communicate with local Field Leadership (MGM, NVP, Market and Certification Trainers) to promote the Field Training program. Field Trainer responsibilities: • Accept the request to serve as a Field Trainer for a particular class

within 48-hours. After the 48-hour time period, Trainer Support will reach out to another Field Trainer for the class.

• Submit GWC dates and locations to class certification Trainer • Download GWC roster and payment form • After the GWC activities have been completed and no later than 45 days from

the certification training date, the Field Trainer mus submit the completed GWC roster and Field Trainer payment form to Trainer Support

Field Training Fees There is not a cost for Field Training. However, it is recommended Trainees working with a Field Trainer split business resulting from the training with no more than 50% going to the Field Trainer to compensate them for their time and experience. Field Trainers should always complete the Joint Enrollment Checklist with their Trainee to clarify each person’s roles and responsibilities (see Trainer Forms). A

Page 15: Business Solutions Trainer Guide 2018 Solutions Trainer Guide...2. MGM or Field Leadership emails recommendation to trainersupport@legalshieldcorp.com for review or the Associate submits

completed Joint Enrollment Checklist signed by the Field Trainer and the Trainee is required for the Field Trainer’s name to be listed as the Field Trainer on the Authorization Card and receive any payment. Submission of the signed Joint Enrollment Checklist is also required for trainer payment to be approved and processed.

Field Training Process The ultimate goal of Field Training is to get new associates into production. To do so, it is best to use the three-stage approach of: Learn, Engage and Support.

1. Learn | Trainee’s will use this stage to gain knowledge on the product and sales methods. The Field Trainer should show the Trainee what to do and how to do it.

2. Engage | Trainee’s will use this stage to gain experience applying their knowledge and sales approach. The Field Trainer should assist the Trainee through the process allowing the Trainee to have first-hand experience with support.

3. Support | Trainee’s will use this stage to gain feedback and focus on how to strengthen their skills. The Field Trainer should watch/shadow the Trainee and provide feedback as needed.

Field Trainer Timeframe/Location

• Field Training timeframes will vary based on the type of and complexity of an account.

• Trainees should be involved in every step of the sale including: prospecting, contacting, setting an appointment, decision maker meeting, closing the sale/enrollment, follow-up, etc.

• The corporate office encourages all trainees to receive Field Training assistance on at least 3 accounts.

• Locations will vary based on the needs of the account and the trainee.

• Field Trainers are encouraged to work both new and existing accounts with trainees.

Class Registration Process Trainers should always promote and encourage associates to pre-register. However, every trainer should have some form of access (Wi-Fi, computer, iPad, etc.) to allow walk-ins to register online through their Associates Only Back Office or the Trainer should have a printed or electronic copy of the Walk-in Roster available for the attendee to complete. Note: all Walk-in Rosters must be submitted via an excel file electronically to Trainer Support.

LSEngage Email Promotions Trainers can send emails to the field in their assigned zip codes only. If a Trainer needs to send a communication outside of his/her designated zip codes, the Trainer will need to work with the State Trainer to send an email blast via LSEngage.

During Course Trainers are expected to professionally and respectfully deliver training to participants using only the Corporate approved resources and structure. Trainer’s should refrain from voicing negative personal opinions regarding the Corporate materials as well as refrain from editing or restructuring the layout and/or format of any materials without prior written approval.

Training Audits The Corporate Office will periodically audit trainings in the field unannounced. The intent of an audit is to get an understanding of how each trainer facilitates a course in order to provide coaching and presentation support. Auditors are present to watch and will not participate in activities or help with the presentation or serve as a guest speaker. Supplemental Training Both first time attendees and retake attendees are encouraged to complete the supplemental courses in the LMS prior to attending for an Employee Benefit Certification. Trainers should encourage particpants to complete the Supplemental courses provided in the class PPT and below.

Go Walk Your Community (GWC) The Certification Trainer should provide an opportunity for the Field Trainer to promote the GWC activities during the class. In addition, the Certification Trainer should positively promote the value working with a Field Trainer and attending the GWC activities throughout the class.

Training Certificates Training Certificates are available for download under the Field Trainers tab in the AOBO. It is highly recommended that the Certification Trainer distribute Training Certificates to attendees at the end of each certification training class. In the event an attendee contacts the Corporate Office for a Training Certificate, the attendee will be directed back to the Certification Trainer attended for assistance. Walk-In Attendees It is very common to have attendees show up the day of a training who have not yet registered. These attendees are called Walk-in Attendees. Walk-in attendees can register and pay via the LMS or they can sign in via an electronic or paper roster and pay the trainer the Walk-in rate registration fee.

After Class Submit Rosters The class roster should be reviewed and processed in the LMS, and the walk-in roster should be completed in Excel and both rosters should be processed and/or submitted no later than 10 a.m. CT on the Monday following the training in order to receive compensation the following Thursday. Walk-in rosters must be submitted in Excel to [email protected].

Associate Qualifications The appropriate qualifications will be added to associate files within 5 business days of receiving the completed training roster. Reminder: all registration requirements must be met to receive qualification (payment, attendance, etc.).

Evaluation Forms Evaluation forms will be emailed to all attendees after the corporate office has processed the class roster for all occurring certification and field trainings. Trainers will also be sent a self-evaluation form following a training. The Trainer and attendee evaluations will be reviewed monthly. Participant feedback will be provided to Trainers on or before the 20th of the following month. In addition, Employee Benefits Certification attendees will receive a second evaluation 30 days following their training. Submitting Course Feedback

Send the completed Payment Form to Trainer Support by email to [email protected] or by mail to LegalShield Attn: Trainer Support, One Pre-Paid Way, Ada, OK 74820. effective date of the group. Therefore, any payment requests received that took place 90 days or more post training, will be denied.

• Field Trainers can be paid on new apps coming in from a group where they provided Field Training for up to 90 days, as long as the Field Trainer submits a new Field Training Payment Request form to Trainer Support each time new apps are entered (only the initial payment request form requires the Trainees signature)

• Field Trainers will not be compensated for Field Trainings until the Group is effective (this is not based off of when the Group is entered into the system).

Field Training Conflicts/Disputes • The Corporate Office encourages all associates in the Field Training

program to use the Joint Enrollment Checklist to clarify roles and responsibilities of both parties.

• Neither LegalShield, nor any of its subsidiaries will be involved in any fashion with “agreements” made between Independent Associates concerning the division of commissions on group sales. If such agreements are made, it is the sole responsibility of the parties involved to resolve the issue in a satisfactory manner.

• Field Leadership may assist with mediation. • Should a dispute jeopardize a group account, LegalShield, in its sole

discretion, may reassign the group account. • Associates entering into agreements concerning division of

commissions on group sales should review all policies before entering into such agreements.

Training Expenses Certification and Field Trainers are responsible for their own travel and operating expenses. Field Training supply costs, however, should be discussed during the initial meeting as part of the Joint Enrollment Checklist discussion and shared with the trainee.

Trainer Resources Training Tips 1. Review all class materials and notes prior to class, even if you have

taught the course numerous times. 2. Review the learning objectives. 3. Test the equipment before the training and run through the

PowerPoint and have visual aids and participant/class materials ready.

4. Consciously slow your speech down and add pauses for emphasis throughout the training.

5. Make eye contact with everyone in the room. 6. Use the slides to augment your training and provide real world

examples. Don’t read the slides to participants. 7. When speaking, face the audience and project your voice. Don’t when

your head is turned away from the audience, such as when you are glancing at a slide.

8. “That’s a Good Question” – You can use statements like, “That’s a really good question,” or “I’m glad you asked me that,” to buy yourself a few moments to organize your response.

9. Avoid filler words by taking a breath in. You can replace ‘um’, ‘ah’, ‘okay’ or ‘you know’ with a pause taking a short breath in.

10. Be aware of nervous energy, such as bouncing on your toes, swaying, jingling things in your pocket. Instead, hold onto Something when you start your presentation, such as paper, the clicker, or stand behind podium.

11. Interact with the audience. Instead of talking at them, engage them in conversation. Be conversational, make the audience feel consulted, questioned, and/or challenged.

12. Be expressive, enthusiastic and excited about the training. 13. Use real world examples throughout the training. 14. Use the provided talking points. DO NOT use statistics or numbers

that are not part of the training. 15. Great speakers know how to use personal stories to create an

emotional connection between ideas for the audience. 16. Give participants time to interacting with the content through exercises, group

discussions, and role plays to increase retention of the material learned.
