That this House:(1) Notes the many benefits of having registered nurses in aged care premises at all times.(2) Notes that the Legislative Council committee inquiry into registered nurses in aged care premises

argued in favour of registered nurses being on duty at all times.(3) Notes that this decision will have a significant impact on thousands of residents of aged care

facilities in Wallsend.(4) Distances itself from the Premier's decision to drop the rule requiring registered nurses in aged

care premises 24 hours every day, leaving an unregulated workforce to make clinical decisions about complex care and medication management.

That this House:(1) Notes that at noon on 5 May 2016, all Australians were asked to 'Remember the 1200@1200', and

pause for a minute's silence to honour the 1,209 people who were killed on our roads last year, including 348 people in New South Wales, as part of National Road Safety Week 2016.

(2) Recognises the important work of Safer Australian Roads and Highways (SARAH) Inc to promote initiatives that will bring about improved road safety and to support those affected by road tragedy, which started as a result of the Hume Highway crash of 15 February 2012 that tragically took the lives of Sarah Frazer and Geoffrey Clark.

(3) Supports the road safety campaigns of SARAH Inc and National Road Safety Week, and urges all Australians to think about their driving and the responsibility we all share on the roads.

(4) Reflects on the 1,209 who lost their lives on Australia's roads last year and expresses its condolences to all the family and friends whose lives have been changed forever by the loss of those dear to them.

Westconnex project.(3) Notes that the community has the right to know if the offshore corruption allegations received in

evidence by the Senate Economics References Committee are indicative of a broader cultural practice within Leighton Holdings Group.

(4) Calls on the Government to guarantee that the evidence received by the Senate Economics Reference Committee is not part of the Leighton Holding Group's Australian practices and has not influenced New South Wales projects won by the company.

That this House:(1) Congratulates Alex Snell, year 12 student of Armidale High School, on being one of 120 student

delegates who took part in the National Schools Constitutional Convention in March this year in Canberra.

assessment for students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 begins on 10 May 2016.(2) Acknowledges that this is only one assessment tool to identify student progress.(3) Acknowledges the increased cases of reported anxiety in students as young as 8 as a result of the

pressure of testing and expresses concern at the suggestion that students as young as 4 may be tested in the future.

(4) Acknowledges that this particular form of assessment, whilst a regular part of Australian school life since 2008, does not take into account elements such as a student's creativity, extra curricular skills nor the holistic approach to education that builds a better society.

research focused on improving the effectiveness of gastrointestinal nematode control for meat-breed lamb production systems on the Northern Tablelands.

1017 MARRICKVILLE LEGAL CENTRE DOMESTIC AND FAMILY VIOLENCE OFFICERMS JO HAYLEN to move—

That this House:(1) Notes that under the transition to the Safer Pathways Program, the domestic and family violence

worker at the Marrickville Legal Centre will not be funded beyond 30 June 2016.(2) Notes that for seven years, the position was funded through the Inner West Domestic Violence

Pro-Active Support Service and that since being informed of the funding cut, the centre has undertaken extensive fundraising, but still needs help.

(3) Notes the importance of this role for the community, filling an important service gap and the volume of requests for information, advice and casework on domestic and family violence referred to by Police and other agencies.

(4) Calls on the Government to continue funding the position and to provide certainty for the many women and children who depend on this service.


1018 NORTHERN SCHOOLS PRIME LAMB COMPETITION WINNERSMR ADAM MARSHALL to move—

That this House:(1) Congratulates students at Glen Innes High and Guyra Central School on their success at the

Northern Schools Prime Lamb Competition, competing against 12 other schools for top honours.(2) Notes Glen Innes High won the Champion Lamb on the Hoof Award and was first in the

Heavyweight Lamb Section (above 52 kilograms) of the competition.(3) Further notes Guyra Central took home the Lightweight (46-48 kilograms) section honours.(4) Acknowledges the efforts of the students who competed and their teachers: Scott Miller and

Graham Pagden, Science and Agriculture teachers at Guyra Central School; and Luke Schmitzer, Agriculture teacher at Glen Innes High School.

selected for the Regional Australia Team set to compete at the Oceania Championships in Fiji in July 2016.

That this House:(1) Notes that John Hunter Hospital, the largest in the region, treats 1000 patients every week.

(2) Notes that hospital staff, patients and families have raised concerns about security at the hospital following a number of violent incidents.

(3) Reinforces to the Minister for Health that the security and safety of patients and staff should not be overlooked.

That this House:(1) Congratulates the Government for its record spending on education.

(2) Acknowledges the recent spending in local schools in the Oatley electorate, including Narwee Public School which has received $15,000 for the upgrade of the library facilities to ensure the youngest of students have access to great resources.

(3) Notes this is another achievement delivered by the Government.


1025 COMMUNITY RADIO STATION FUNDINGMS JENNY LEONG to move—

That this House:(1) Acknowledges the important role played by community radio stations in connecting local

communities, promoting local arts and culture, providing localised news and offering opportunities for aspiring media practitioners to hone their craft.

(2) Notes that the Federal Budget failed to address a drop in funding to the community radio sector of $1.4 million per annum, funding that currently allows community radio stations to broadcast on digital frequencies.

(3) Considers that this shortfall in funding limits the capacity of community radio stations to reach audiences and will therefore have a detrimental effect on the future of the sector.

(4) Calls on the Government to make representations and lobby the Federal Government to reinstate funding to community radio.

(5) Calls on the Government to fund this essential community service if the Federal Government fails to do this.


1026 STRICKLAND HOUSE ESTATEMS GABRIELLE UPTON to move—

That this House:(1) Notes that on 7 May 2016 at the National Trust's 2016 Heritage Awards, the Woollahra History

and Heritage Society won the Advocacy Campaign Award for its committed 27 year campaign for Strickland House.

(2) Commends Peter Poland OAM, President of the Woollahra History and Heritage Society, his late wife June Poland and society members for being staunch advocates for the preservation of the heritage of Woollahra municipality.

(3) Recognises Strickland House Estate as a unique and beautiful place spread across five hectares of harbour foreshore and recognised as such by the local community and beyond.

That this House:(1) Condemns the Government for its lack of concern for the health of children at schools along the

WestConnex corridor.

(2) Considers that WestConnex will have an extremely detrimental effect on a large number of Sydney schools and school children due to their proximity to proposed tollroads, unfiltered ventilation stacks and significant increased traffic volumes.

(3) Calls on the Government to recognise its duty of care to all children who attend these schools, who will be subject to unacceptable, increased levels of harmful toxins and increased traffic hazards as a result of WestConnex.

(2) Notes that population growth in Sydney makes it more difficult to provide adequate rail services on the fringes of Sydney.

(3) Notes that the Opposition did not invest in this train line when it was in government.

(4) Commends the Government for having a long term plan to increase capacity on the network by up to 60 per cent in peak times.

(5) Requests that in the meantime the Government at the next timetable review add more services into the city on the southern highlands line and do all it can do increase on time running of trains.


1530 PINK RIBBON MONTHMS JO HAYLEN to move—

That this House:(1) Notes that October is Pink Ribbon Month, an important time to raise funds for the work of the

Cancer Council NSW in fighting breast and gynaecological cancers.

(2) Acknowledges that tragically every day, 12 Australian women die from breast or gynaecological cancer and the work of the Cancer Council NSW is invaluable in increasing survival rates.

(3) Commends those across New South Wales who contribute to the success of this month by hosting events, donating and raising awareness.

That this House:(1) Congratulates Victoria Lee on being crowned the 51st Taree showgirl at the Taree Show on 8 and

9 October 2016.

(2) Commends Ms Lee on taking part in the Showgirl competition and for also competing in horse events and entering the arts and crafts.

(3) Notes that Ms Lee has also in the past shown beef cattle, competed in dog shows and helped with sheep meat and vegetable judging at the Sydney Royal Easter Show.

(4) Notes that Ms Lee will now represent Taree as an ambassador when she attends zone at Coffs Harbour in 2017.

(1) Notes that the Hunter Regional Plan 2036 recommends support for development of the Lake Macquarie Transport Interchange and the development of Glendale as a strategic gateway to Greater Newcastle.

(2) Notes that the interchange project is supported by all local state and federal members, Hunter

councils, key regional business groups, local residents and chambers of commerce.

(3) Notes that investment in the Lake Macquarie Transport Interchange project will do more to drive effective public transport in the region for much less money than the money spent on a small section of light rail project in Newcastle.

(4) Calls on the Government to recognise that development of the interchange and the adjoining

Pennant Street bridge is now the most important infrastructure project in the Hunter Region, and provide prioritised funding.
