NEWPORT MESA UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT STUDENTS COMPLETE THE 2015 TEEN CERT ACADEMY
The Teen Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) is a 20-hour training program presented by the Costa Mesa Fire Department with support from law enforcement and community volunteers. Teen CERT has been active in the city since 2009 with both Costa Mesa and Estancia high schools participating in the past. The Teen CERT course prepares and teaches teens to become better prepared for emergencies, how to suppress small fires, assist with medical emergencies, and help others before the professional responders arrive. Teen CERT members can help in their neighborhood and school by helping with safety issues, peer mentoring, exercises, preparedness outreach, fire and home safety education. Students who complete the full program receive community service hours. Costa Mesa is dedicated to creating a strong CERT program with programs geared to businesses, schools, community members and youth. Our youth preparedness efforts in Costa Mesa will be highlighted during the first meeting held in Washington D.C. on Wednesday January 28 of the National Strategy for Youth Preparedness Education and recognized as a Community Affirmer of the National Youth Strategy (see the logo below). The meeting will include other youth programs across the country, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the American Red Cross and U.S. Department of Education. Costa Mesa will participate via conference line.
The 2015 TEEN CERT Academy hosted by Back Bay High School was attended by 35 students who completed 20 hours of training January 9 to 11. The new “weekend” format was another way to deliver the program to the teen audience similar to the community program provided throughout the year. Student attendance break down: Back Bay Students – (24), Costa Mesa (7), Estancia (2), Early College (2) and Newport Harbor (1).The academy is provided over a full weekend at a local school facility with the support of teachers, PTA, fire, law and community members. Teen CERT members can join the Costa Mesa CERT program, attend meetings and preparedness events to earn further

CHAMBER WELCOMES NEW PRESIDENT/CEOAfter 23 years of dedicated stewardship of the Costa Mesa Chamber of Commerce Ed Fawcett has decided to retire to Arizona and turn over the reins of the Chamber to Kyle Woosley. Ed will remain as a consultant through April helping to facilitate a smooth transition. Be sure to watch for information on Ed’s retirement luncheon , April 29th at the Mesa Verde Country Club.
About Kyle…Kyle was born in Vancouver, Washington. He spent the better part of 20 years in Washington, before deciding relocate to a warmer climate. Kyle transferred to Loyola Marymount University as a junior, where he received a degree in theater arts. He met his wife there, and followed a wonderful opportunity for her job to Boston. They spent 5 years in the bitter cold and heat, finally to return to Southern California via another promotion. Kyle, his wife, and their new baby girl, have lived in Costa Mesa for 4 years.
Prior to being recruited by the Chamber, Kyle was vigorously involved with the Chamber through his previous occupation, as a Financial Advisor for Edward Jones. Kyle joined the Ambassadors Committee in order to be even more active. He enjoyed his role as an Ambassador so much; he decided to make a permanent career switch in order to help out as many Costa Mesa businesses as possible.
Kyle’s main passion is making sure each Member benefits from theirChamber membership, and has a lot of exciting ideas to help the Chamber grow into the most popular and talked about Chamber in Orange County!

U Save Termite Control is a unique company because we are the only termite company in California that offers a ‘Flat-Rate’ price for all spot treatments. U Save Termite Control offers its customers free inspections and estimates and quality termite service at an affordable ‘Flat-Rate’ price of just $495. (See our ad in the Orange County Register on Fridays).
We have 15 years experience and our goal has always been to find a way to help homeowners eliminate termites from their homes at a price that they can afford. A ‘Flat-Rate’ price is how and we tell you up front the price of our service, no one else does that.
Most termite companies charge large amounts of money for their work which typically puts people off from treating their homes and stopping expensive termite damage. We typically save our customers $100 - $500 on termite spot treatments over other companies’ prices. It makes no difference if a job takes 2 hours or 4 hours the price stays the same. We use the best products (Not Orange Oil) for our work and offer a whole house warranty. Our inspections are thorough and most of the time we find termite activity that other companies have missed. So, if you or a friend or neighbor is in need of a termite inspection and great service then please call us at 714-362-4424. Note: (The Structural Pest Control Board recommends all homeowners have at least on inspection per year). We operate in LA and Orange Counties and we are open 6 days a week from Monday to Saturday. The Training Spot, “Exactly UNLIKE any other gym”
We are a unique personal training fitness studio that works with our clients to help them build muscle, lose weight and feel better in their skin. We have helped 1000’s of locals achieve their fitness goals and we are looking to help 1000’s more down the road. I have been in the industry for 34 years now and have a team of 7 personal trainers and a nutritionist with me, totaling over 80 years of experience. Our mission is simple: To make Costa Mesa, more active and to help them live more fulfilling lives.
There are simple and PROVEN methods for achieving life-long, optimum health and fitness that do not require restrictive dieting or hours of mind-numbing exercise. I really feel Costa Mesa would like to know they have an advocate and guide right here in town who is committed to helping them.
Fitness and health can be really confusing at times and with nationwide obesity scares, tons of unfiltered “fads” and infomercial garbage, it is easy to get caught up in the hype and misinterpret information. My goal is to share everyday strategies to show Costa Mesa residents how they can re-claim their bodies and health without frustration, crash diets or pills through proper strength training and our ground breaking nutrition programs.
Orange County resident’s voices have been heard as they voted The Training Spot the “Best Personal Trainers,” and “Best Weight-loss Program.”

Bark Bath Self Serve Dog Wash & Grooming is locally owned by Robert and Dawn Riggins. It was born out of the necessity of trying to find an easier way to wash our newly rescued puppy Ginger (who hates baths!)
We discovered the self-serve concept and was shocked that Costa Mesa did not have one. We figured that we can’t be the only ones in Costa Mesa that are tired of breaking our backs, knees, (just insert body part here) bending over in our bathtubs or back yard trying to wash our dog.
We spent time going up and down the coast, trying dog washes out. (Most fun R&D ever!) We were surprised to see that a lot of dog washes used regularhuman tubs placed on pedestals. We starting thinking, “Why on earth are they using those, when professional grooming tubs are specifically made for one thing; washing dogs!?”
STICKER SHOCK @#% We got the answer! They are expensive! That’s why! We decided that if we were going to open a Self Serve and claim to make washing your dog easier we should offer the appropriate equipment.
Bark Bath Self Serve Dog Wash & Grooming is proud to be the first self- serve dog wash in Costa Mesa offering you the easiest way out there to wash your own dog.
We added full service grooming 3 months ago due to client requests. We are now a “one stop shop!” It turned out to be a great addition since we just recently came in #3 for The OC HOT LIST for Best Grooming.
Our grooming services fit every lifestyle and budget. Our self-serve menu includes: shampoo, waist high stainless steel professional grooming tubs with ramps, safety loops to keep dogs secure in place, water temperature is pre-set, brushes, scrubbers (think wash cloth for dogs), ear/eye wipes, disposable toothbrushes, towels, high velocity doggie blower and an apron for you!
