With apology to Irving Berlin:

There's no business like war business, like no business so low

Everything about it is appalling, everything that greed will allow

Nowhere to you get that sickening feeling as when they're selling arms like now

There's no people like war people who smile when they make dough

Whether selling guns or tanks, it's just more money in their banks

Which keeps politicians in their ranks, so they can go on with the show

And what a show!

War Cost in US

The US spends billions of dollars for wars and weapons each year. The money that can be used for better causes, such as providing food and water for people, all goes to violence.

Page 11: Business of War

Price we pay for war

Children are orphaned, no breadwinners, or source of income for families.War traumatizes soldiers causing Post Traumatic Stress DisorderLower layers of soil are damaged 7000 years after a bomb.Arms production and tests pollute water and air supplies The price of one fighter jet could buy a quarter of a million tonnes of riceThe 1980-88 Iran/Iraq war cost Iran $644 billion dollar

Reduce the “War Business”

More than 100 nations have reached an agreement on a treaty which would ban current designs of cluster bombs

Source: BBC News, Wednesday, 28 March 2008 21:44 GMT DFID Intervention : One of the greatest safeguards

against the irresponsible grant of licences for arms exports

ATT (Arms Trade Treaty) : Control international arms transfers, and address common concerns such as arms misuse, illegal dealers etc.

Page 13: Business of War

Possible Solution1)end government subsidies and support for arms exports; 2)end exports to oppressive regimes; 3)end exports to countries involved in an armed conflict or region of tension; 4)end exports to countries whose social welfare is threatened by military spending; support measures internationally, which will regulate and reduce the arms trade and lead to its eventual end.5)Identify and destroy stocks of surplus weapons6)Ensure better enforcement of arms embargoes

ConclusionAs we know war is the worst and horrific type of human interaction. No other event that allow people to kill each other in such massive numbers, However, curiously, some people actually seem to like war as it gives benefits to them. Those people such arms dealer or weapons trader will make war as their profitable business.

As business student, sometimes we will face a problems that force us to choose between morality or business. Thus, the decision will depend on how we respect the ethics and morality as there is no specific theory that address this problems.

Thank You.........................................

The age of nations is past, the task before us now, if we would survive, is to shake off our ancient

prejudices and build the earth
