Personal—Business Letter A personal-business letter is a letter that is sent

from an individual to a person or business/organization.

Notes to Remember!1. The top margin is 2”, side and bottom margins are 1".2. Typist initials are the initials of the typist and are used

when someone other than the writer prepares the letter. Lowercase letters are used, with no space, and with no punctuation, appearing a double space below the signature.

Block Letters Versus Modified Letters

Block Letters –The entire letter starts at the left margin of the page (Business Letters)

Modified Letters- The paragraphs are indented .5 spaces from the left margin by pressing the TAB Key.(Personal Business Letters)

Open and Mixed PunctuationOpen Punctuation-No punctuation follows the salutation or complimentary close.This will be used in Block Style Letters

Mixed Punctuation-There will be a Colon after the Salutation and a Comma after the Complimentary Closing.This will be used in Modified Style Letters

Paragraphs Spacing

If you do not know the person’s name and you are sending a business letter use
